  • This paper proposes a Ku-band multi-mode coupler and its monopulse tracking system, which can be applied to a unmaned aircraft vehicle(UAV) platform. In general, the carrier-to-noise(C/N) level of the beacon signal from a Ku-band commercial satellite is relatively weak compared to that of a military satellite because the Ku-band satellite has been designed for commercial services. Therefore, this paper proposes a coupler and its multi-mode monopulse tracking system satisfying the tracking accuracy under a low C/N environment and analyzes the tracking accuracy. After that, we perform a real satellite tracking test and compare the accuracy of the test with the analysis result before validating the performance of the architecture of the proposed satellite tracking system.

  • Utilizing self-phase modulation effects of a dispersion-shifted fiber and delayline characteristics of two gratings, mode-locked 80 ps pulses at 1.319 $\mu \textrm m$ wavelength from a Nd:YAG laser are compressed to 2.1 ps. This experiment is suitable for studying the transmission characteristics of high energy short pulses along normal fibers in zero dispersion regime.

Design of High Efficiency Switching-Mode Doherty Power Amplifier Using GaN HEMT (GaN HEMT를 이용한 고효율 스위칭 모드 도허티 전력증폭기 설계)

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of a high efficiency Doherty power amplifier using gallium nitride (GaN) high-electron mobility transistor (HEMT). The carrier and peaking amplifiers of the proposed Doherty power amplifier consist of the switching-mode Class-E power amplifiers. The test conditions are a duty of 10% and a pulse width of $100\;{\mu}s$ and pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 1 kHz for a S-band radar application. A RF performance peak PAE of 64% with drain efficiency of 80.6%, at 6 dB output back-off point from saturated output power of 45.5 dBm, was obtained at 2.85 GHz.

  • Surface roughness and hardness of the electroplated Sn were characterized with variations of electroplating current density and current mode. The Sn electroplated at $5{\sim}50mA/cm^{2}$ exhibited the surface roughness of $2.0{\sim}2.4{\mu}m$. The Sn electroplated with pulse current mode exhibited low surface roughness compared one processed with direct current mode. With surface annealing at $300^{\circ}C$ for 3 sec using halogen lamp, surface roughness of the Sn bump was substantially reduced to $1{\mu}m$. The Sn electroplated at $5{\sim}50mA/cm^{2}$ exhibited the hardness of 10 Hv. Low contact resistances of $33{\sim}17m{\Omega}$ were obtained for specimens flip-chip bonded with Sn bumps.

Study on the Flame Diagnostics with CARS (CARS를 이용한 연소진단 연구)

  • Nd:Yag 레이저의 제2고조파와 광대역 모드 없는 레이저를 광원으로 사용하고 이중회절발분광 기에 설치된 다채널광검출기로 분광된 CARS 스펙트럼을 레이저 펄스마다 측정 할 수 있는 광 대역 CARS 분광기를 제작하였다. CARS 온도측정 불확정도는 300K에서 1300K까지는 1.5% 이내였다. CARS 기술을 이용하여 분젠버너의 화염면에서의 온도 분포를 측정하였으며, 대향류 버너의 화염내부의 온도 분포 및 CO 농도분포를 측정하였다. 이러한 CARS 기술은 정상상태의 연소진단에 응용할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 레이저 펄스마다 측정되는 온도의 분포함수를 조사하면 앞으로 난류연소의 진단에도 응용이 가능하며, 내연기관 등과 같이 연속폭발연소 상태의 기체의 온도나 농도 측정이 가능하다. 본 연구에서 연구된 CARS 기술의 온도 측정정확도는 약 2% 이 내이고 농도 측정은 측정기체의 농도가 상온에서는 약 0.1% 이상, 1500K 이상의 고온에서는 0.3%이상이면 가능하다.

  • We have demonstrated the selection and the amplification of the components of an optical frequency comb using femto-second laser injection-locking technique. We used a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser as a master laser and a single-mode diode laser as a slave laser. After passing through the interference filter with the center wavelength 794.7 nm and the transmittance bandwidth 1.5 nm, the optical frequency comb by mode-locked femto-second laser was injected into the slave laser. The injection-locked slave laser had $3{\sim}4$ multi-mode with the mode spacing 100.5 MHz, whichcorrespond to the repetition rate of a mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser. The power of the modes selected by femto-second laser injection-locking technique was amplified to several thousands times

  • In this paper, a X-band 50 W pulsed solid state power amplifier(SSPA) is designed and fabricated for radar systems. The SSPA consists of a driver amplifier, a high power amplifier, and a pulse modulator. The high power stage employes four 25 W GaAs FET to deliver 50 W at X-band. To meet the stringent target specification for the SSPA, we used a new hybrid pulse switching method, which combine the advantage of pulse modulation and bias switching method. The fabricated SSPA shows a power gain of 44.2 dB, an output power of 50 W over a 1.12 GHz bandwidth. Also, pulse droop < 1 dB meet the design goals and a rise/fall time is less than 12.45 ns. Fabricated X-band pulsed SSPA size is compact with overall size of $150{\times}105{\times}30\;mm^3$.

  • This paper proposes a linearization technique for the 3-level NPC type inverter, which increases the linear control range of Inverter up to the one-pulse inverter. The overmodulation range is divided into two modes depending on the Modulation Index, MI. In overmodulation region I, the reference angles are derived from the fourier series expansion of the reference voltage corresponding to the MI. In overmodulation region II, the holding angles are also derived in the same way. Therefore, it is possible to obtain the linear control and the maximized utilization of PWM inverter output voltage.

  • The traction drive system for the urban transit maglev system is described in this paper. To control the magnitude and frequency of the output voltage of induction motor transiently, the vector control strategy is generally used. But in case of the traction drive system for the railway vehicle, it is difficult to use the vector control caused by the one-pulse mode in the high speed region. Therefore, this paper proposes the control strategy combined the vector control in the low speed region and the slip frequency control in the high speed region. And also, the overmodulation PWM method is discussed to make the change to the one-pulse mode softly. The performance of the proposed traction drive system is verified by the MATLAB simulation results.

  • AC PDP의 구동방법 중 가장 대표적인 구동 법이라 할 수 있는 ADS 구동 법은 구현이 비교적 용이하고, 안정적인 구동특성으로 인하여 현재 많은 상용 AC PDP의 구동 법으로 널리 채택되고 있다. 본 논문은 현재 AC PDP의 주요 연구 분야 중에 하나인 고속 어드레싱에 관한 새로운 구동파형을 소개하였다. 기존 AD을 구동법은 초기화구간과 어드레스구간 그리고 유지구간이 명확히 분리되어 있어 FULL- HD급 화면을 구현하기 위해서 어드레싱에 소비되는 시간의 감소가 불가피하다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 어드레스 펄스폭을 줄여주지만, 이로 인하여 불안정한 어드레싱을 초래하게 된다. AC PDP의 초기화 구간의 파형은 이후의 어드레스 특성에 중요한 영향을 끼치는데, 초기화간에 형성된 priming 입자는 어드레스 방전에 크게 도움을 준다. 본 논문은 초기화구간이 끝난 후 priming 효과가 급격히 떨어지는 80us이후에 벽전하 형성을 돕는 벽전하 가속펄스의 사용으로 짧은 어드레스 펄스폭으로 인한 불안정한 어드레싱을 보완하고, 어드레스 과정 후 유지방전 모드로의 벽전하의 형성을 빠르게 유도할 수 있어 1us의 짧은 어드레스 폭으로도 안정적인 어드레싱을 수행할 수 있도록 하였다.
