  • This paper works on development of an algorithm for mapping of cerebral perfusion parameters using the gamma-variate curve fitting. The signal intensity variate curve according to time measured in each pixel of perfusion MRI is nonlinear, and various hemodynamic parameters are not computed accurately. Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm(LMA), nonlinear optimum algorithm with high convergent speed and stability, is used to compute them. That is, the signal intensity variate curve is fitted by the gamma-variate function. Various hemodynamic parameters - Cerebral Blood Volume(C.B.V), Mean Transit Time(M.T.T), Cerebral Blood Flow(C.B.F), Time-to-Peak(T.T.P), Bolus Arrival Time(B.A.T), Maximum Slope(M.S) - are computed using LMA.

  • There are various methods in surface image velocimetry that can measure the flow velocity of a river surface using footage of a river surface. Among them, spatio-temporal image velocimetry (STIV) is widely used. This paper analyzed advantages and disadvantages of two STIV methods developed by the author, correlation-based STIV (C-STIV) and FFT-based STIV (F-STIV). This study also proposed a new method, hybrid STIV (H-STIV), that could supplement the advantages and disadvantages of the two existing methods by combining them. For the analyses, 20 cases of artificial spatio-temporal images, having image displacement ranging from 0.1 px/fr to 19.0 px/fr, were prepared. As a result, F-STIV was accurate with footage containing small image displacements and C-STIV was more accurate with footage containing large image displacements. For images with medium displacement, the two methods showed similar accuracies. Based on this result, H-STIV was proposed to adopt the result of F-STIV in displacements smaller than 2.0 px/fr (image strip slope 63.4°) and the result of C-STIV in larger displacements. As a result of applying the proposed method to argumentation, it was confirmed that H-STIV could calculate the flow velocity efficiently according to the situation.

  • Excessive earth pressure is one of the major mechanical factors in the deformation and damage of Cut-and-Cover Tunnel lining in shallow tunnels and portals of mountain tunnels (Kim, 2000). Excessive earth pressure may be attributed to insufficient compaction and consolidation of backfill material due to self-weight, precipitation and vibration caused by traffic (Komiya et al., 2000; Taylor et al., 1984; Yoo, 1997). Even though there were a lot of tests performed to determine the earth pressure acting on the tunnel lining, unfortunately there were almost no case histories of studies performed to determine remedial measures that reduce differential settlement and excessive earth pressure. In this study the installation of geotextile mat was selected to reduce the differential settlement and excessive earth pressure acting on the cut-and-cover tunnel lining. In order to determine settlement and earth pressure reduction effect (reinforcement effect) of geotextile mat reinforcement, laboratory tunnel model tests were performed. This study was limited to the modeling of rigid circular cut-and-cover tunnel constructed at a depth of $1.0D\sim1.5D$ in loose sandy ground and subjected to a vibration frequency of 100 Hz. Model tests with varying soil cover, mat reinforcement scheme and slope roughness were performed to determine the most effective mat reinforcement scheme. Slope roughness was adjusted by attaching sandpaper #100, #400 and acetate on the cut slope surface. Mat reinforcement effect of each mat reinforcement scheme were presented by the comparison of earth pressure obtained from the unreinforced and mat reinforced model tests. Soil settlement reduction was analyzed and presented using the Picture Analysis Method (Park, 2003).

  • This study aimed to clarify the influencing factors of mesopore ratio on a pore geometry of surface soil in coniferous stands as an index of the water retention capacity. Twenty three factors including site conditions and soil properties were analyzed by spss/pc + for the data collected during March to October of 1993. The factors influencing the mesopore ratio(pF2.7) on the surface soil were as follows; macropore ratio(pF1.6), slope, crown-cover rates, thickness of F layer, organic matter contents, and the growing stock. And influencing factor on the ratio of mesopore in the soil surface was correlated with percentage of amount of clay, soil surface, A and B horizon soil hardness shows high negative significance. Also, multiple regression equations for mesopore ratios of surface soil and surface soil hardness, clear length, growing stock, B horizon of soil hardness, organic matter contents show high significance($R^2$; 0.80). In coniferous stands, it is effective in promoting development on the ratio of mesopore that forest practice for enhancing of the water resource retention capacity should be carried out when the crown-cover rates of stands are more than 80 percentages.

  • Objective : The ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF) is one of the major causes of thoracic myelopathy. Surgical decompression with or without instrumented fusion is the mainstay of treatment. However, few studies have reported on the added effect of instrumented fusion. The objective of this study was to compare clinical and radiological outcomes between surgical decompression without instrumented fusion (D-group) and that with instrumented fusion (F-group). Methods : A retrospective review was performed on 28 patients (D-group, n=17; F-group, n=11) with thoracic myelopathy due to OLF. The clinical parameters compared included scores of the Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA), the Visual analogue scale of the back and leg (VAS-B and VAS-L), and the Korean version of the Oswestry disability index (K-ODI). Radiological parameters included the sagittal vertical axis (SVA), the pelvic tilt (PT), the sacral slope (SS), the thoracic kyphosis angle (TKA), the segmental kyphosis angle (SKA) at the operated level, and the lumbar lordosis angle (LLA; a negative value implying lordosis). These parameters were measured preoperatively, 1 year postoperatively, and 2 years postoperatively, and were compared with a linear mixed model. Results : After surgery, all clinical parameters were significantly improved in both groups, while VAS-L was more improved in the F-group than in the D-group (-3.4±2.5 vs. -1.3±2.2, p=0.008). Radiological outcomes were significantly different in terms of changes in TKA, SKA, and LLA. Changes in TKA, SKA, and LLA were 2.3°±4.7°, -0.1°±1.4°, and -1.3°±5.6° in the F-group, which were significantly lower than 6.8°±6.1°, 3.0°±2.8°, and 2.2°±5.3° in the D-group, respectively (p=0.013, p<0.0001, and p=0.037). Symptomatic recurrence of OLF occurred in one patient of the D-group at postoperative 24 months. Conclusion : Clinical improvement was achieved after decompression surgery for OLF regardless of whether instrumented fusion was added. However, adding instrumented fusion resulted in better outcomes in terms of lessening the progression of local and regional kyphosis and improving leg pain. Decompression with instrumented fusion may be a better surgical option for thoracic OLF.

  • The study was aimed at the development of the simple linear regression model to estimate the fruit yield of sweet pepper and to support decision-making management for growing sweet pepper crop in Korea. For quantitative analysis of relationship between environmental data and periodical yield of sweet pepper the data obtained from the commercial Venlo-type glasshouse for 2 years. Obtained periodical yield data of five different cultivars and radiation data were accumulated and fitted by linear regression. A significant linear relationship was found between radiation integral and fruit yield, whereas the production per unit of radiation was different between cultivars. The slope of linear regression could indicate as light use efficiency for fruit production ($LUE_F$, $g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$). $LUE_F$ of 'Ferrari' was $5.85g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$, 'Fiesta' 5.32 for first year and $4.75g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$ and for second year, 'President' was $4.66g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$, 'Cupra' was $3.86g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$, and 'Boogie' was $6.48g{\cdot}MJ^{-1}$. The amount of light requirement for the unit gram of fruit was between $25.88J{\cdot}g^{-1}$, for 'Cupra' and $15.42J{\cdot}g^{-1}$ for 'Boogie'. Although we found the linear relationship between radiation and fruit yield, $LUE_F$ was varied between cultivars and as well as year. The linear relationship could describe the fruit yield as function of radiation, but it needed more variable to generalization of the production, such as cultivar specifications, temperature, and number of fruits set per plant or unit of ground.

  • The Government is trying to increase total food grain yield to meet national self sufficiency by means of increasing unit yield as well as extending crop land, and this year he set the target of 321,000 hectare of forest to clear for cropping. This study was carried to investigate the most efficient method of clearing hillock by bulldozer, and successful method to develope yielding potential of newly cleared land in short term. Since the conventional land clearing method is just earth leveling and root removing neglecting top soil treatment, the growth of crop was poor and farmer tends not to care the land. The top-soil-furrowing method is applied through out this study, that is advantageous especially for the land having shallow top soil and low fertility like Korean forest. In this study, various operating method were tried to find out most efficient method separately in connection with the land slope less than 25 percent and over, and several fertilizing methods to develop yielding potential. The results are as follows; 1) For the natural land slope utilization method, applicable to the land having less than 25 percent slope, reverse operating was more efficient than using forward gear of bulldozer. The operating time was 3 hour 32 minutes and 36 seconds using forward gear was 2 hour 32 minutes and 30 seconds for reverse gear operation per 1,000 square meter. 2) Bulldozer having angle blade adjustment needed 7hr 15min. for constructing of terrace per 10a compaire with the one having angle & tilt adjustment needed 6hr 4min for same operations. Specially there is significant difference for operation time of first period (earth cutting) such as bulldozer having angle blade adjustment needed 3hr 56min compaired with the one having angle & tilt adjustment 3hr 59min. In construction of terrace, the bull-dozer having tilting and angle blade adjustment was most suitable and performed efficiently. 3) For the fertilizer application treatment, the grass (Ladino clover) yield in first year was almost same as ordinary field's in the plot applied(N.P.K+lime+manure) while none fertilizer plot showed one tenth of it, and (N.P.K.+lime) applied plot yielded on third. 4) The effect of different land clearing method to yield showed significant difference between each treatment especially in the first year, and the conventional method was the lowest. In the second year, still conventional terracing plot yielded only half of ordinary field while the other plots showed as same as ordinary field's. 5) The downward top soil treatment plot showed most rapid improvement in soil structure during one year physio chemically, it showed increase in pH rate and organic composition, and the soil changed gradually from loam to sand-loam and the moisture content increased against the pF rate, and it gives good condition to grow hay due to the increase of field water capacity with higher available water content. 6) Since the soil of tested area was granite, the rate of soil errosion was increased about 2 to 5 percent influencing in soil structure more sand reducing clay content, and an optimum contour farming method should be prepared as a counter measure of errosion.

  • In this paper, two kinds of initial oxidation methods i.e., SLTO(Slow Low Temperature Oxidation: $700^{\circ}C$) and RTO(Rapid Thermal Oxidation: $850^{\circ}C$) are applied prior to the plasma nitridation for ultra thin oxide of RPNO (Remote Plasma Nitrided Oxide). It is observed that SLTO has superior characteristics to RTO such as lower SS(Sub-threshold Slope) and improved Ion-Ioff characteristics. Low frequency noise characteristics of SLTO also showed better than RTO both in linear and saturation regime. It is shown that flicker noise is dominated by carrier number fluctuation in the channel region. Therefore, SLTO is promising for nano-scale CMOS technology with ultra thin gate oxide.

  • The purpose of this study was to interpret ecological characteristics and to estimate successional trend for seven classified forest cover types (Quercus mongolica pure forest, Q. mongolica-Q. serrata forest, Mixed mesophytic forest, Abies koreana-Q. mongolica forest, Fraxinus mandshurica forest, Q. serrata forest, and Carpinus laxiflora forest) in the natural forest of Western Jirisan. Q. mongolica pure forest and A. koreana-Q. mongolica forest which were distributed in a high-altitude ridge had the lowest species diversity index. On the other hand, mixed mesophytic forest and F. mandshurica forest which were mainly distributed in the valley had higher index. Based on characteristics of species diversity and topographic conditions, successional trends for forest cover types were estimated as follows; 1) Q. mongolica pure forest and A. koreana-Q. mongolica forest would be changed toward Q. mongolica-A. koreana forest. 2) Q. mongolica-Q. serrata forest, distributed between ridge and mid-slope, would be changed toward Q. mongolica-C. laxiflora-C. cordata forest. 3) Q. serrata forest, distributed in mid-slope, would be changed toward Q. serrata-Q. mongolica-C. laxiflora forest. 4) Mixed mesophytic forest, F. mandshurica forest and C. laxiflora forest, distributed in valley, would maintain the current condition in terms of species composition.

  • In this study, we investigated the thickness dependence of thermal bleaching(TB) effect as well as photo-induced scalar phenomena, such as photodrakening(PD) effect and photorefraction(PR) change, in chalcogenide A $s_{40}$ G $e_{10}$S $e_{15}$ $S_{35}$ thin films. We found that when these films were exposed for 15 minutes using blue-pass filtered Hg lamp(~4300$\AA$) after annealing for 30 minutes around the glass transition temperature Tg(20$0^{\circ}C$), the refractive index change ($\Delta$n) was varied up to 0.02~0.46 according to each thickness condition and the optical energy gap ($\Delta$ $E_{op}$ ) was shifted to a longer wavelength of approximately 0.67eV, especially for 1000$\AA$-thickness. Also, the TB PD effects have been understood by the results related to optical absorption characteristics. The TB effect could be estimated as increasing the stabilization of amorphous chalcogenide films since absorption slope of extended regions(U) was not changed by annealing. On the other hand, the PD effect could be understood as due to the enhancement of disorder since U and the slope of Urbachs tail(1/F) around an absorption edge were decreased by exposing.ing.n edge were decreased by exposing.
