  • The flora survey on Chungnyeongsan and Seorisan was conducted 6 times from 1998 to 2000.817 taxa such as 112 families 415 genera 688 species 1 subspecies 116 varieties 12 forma were recorded. Dominant species in investigated areas was Quercus mongozica and some deciduous broad-leaved species, such as Quercus sp., Acer sp., Fraxinus sp., Carpinus sp., etc. were codominant species in these areas. Pinus koraiensis and Larix teptozepis plantations were also found in these areas. The 16 taxa of rare plants protected by Forestry Service were found in these areas and among them 10 taxa were new populations which had not been recorded in these areas. Discovery of Erunthis stellata, Aconitum koreanum, Paeonia japonica, Scopotia japonica and Acunthopanax senticosus populations indicate that these areas could be regarded as very important one in a biogeographical aspect. Endemic plants were listed 35 taxa and among them 22 taxa including Corydalis maculata, Ulmus macrocarpa, Scrophutaria horuiensis, Cirsium setidens, etc. were new one. Naturalized plants were listed 39 taxa and among them 30 taxa were new one. Lower naturalized index(NI) and higher urbanized index(UI) were recorded compared to those of neighbored areas. There were many kinds of threatening factors fur the plant resources in survey areas, so it is necessary to limit the number of visitors and to introduce the natural relaxation system.

  • Recently, it is more important to study the reasons for using media than which media is selected. This paper investigates different countries as objects to conduct the survey. In accordance with the research results, in hypothesis 1, there is a positive "(+)" influence of its interestingness, informality, restlessness, news pursuit and convenience on satisfaction when college students in South Korea use net news. Taking Chinese college students as an example, there is a positive "(+)" influence of the using motivation of net news on news pursuit, habituation, interactivity, convenience and the satisfaction with net news. In hypothesis 2, the interestingness, informality, habituation and convenience of the using motivation of online news of college students in South Korea are reflected in the acceptance intention of online news, while for Chinese college students, the informality, habituation and convenience are reflected in the acceptance intention of online news. Finally, in hypothesis 3, there is a positive "(+)" influence of the satisfaction of online news on the acceptance level of online news. In addition, this research also considers that the PLS path coefficient of college students in South Korea and China is different, and the motivations and purposes for using net news by two countries are different due to the characteristics and cultures of news media in different countries, so the satisfaction is also different.

  • Fish respond sensitively to light, so it is possible to develop fish management technology using this feature. In this study, we developed a light-based fish barrier and analyzed itsblocking effect using the difference in illuminance for the major fish species in Korea, bass and bluegill. The light was generated by a light emitting diode and the facility was installed vertically from the bottom. Considering the fish's ability to travel upstream, the flow rate was divided into three stages (0.2, 0.1, and 0.05 m/s). To prevent the learning effect, an experiment was carried out with fish that had rested for more than one day in a rearing tank. The experiment was carried out in such a way as tocompare the number of fish which travelled upstream after the introductionof the fish barrier and that of the fish which travelled upstream after itsremoval. It was also carried out after sunset to increase the effectiveness of the barrier. According to the results of the experiment, the fish blocking effect depending on the difference in illuminance was high and, overall, the blocking rate for bass was lower than that for bluegill. Based on the total size of the experimental population, the blocking rates for bass and bluegill were 96.33% and 99.00%, respectively. Based on the number of fish that travelled upstream, the blocking rates for bass and bluegill were 91.73% and 98.73%, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of body composition, biochemical index level, resting metabolic rate and daily activities by the public health center's health-promoted program in overweight middle aged women. The workout program of 12 subjects constituted by exercise(aerobic exercise & resistance training) and nutritional education for 10 weeks. As the results, there was a significant decrease in all the weight(59.0$\pm$8.9 vs 57.2$\pm$8.3kg, p<0.05), body fat percentage(33.4$\pm$4.3 vs 30.5$\pm$4.5%, p<0.05) and body fat mass(19.8$\pm$5.4 vs 17.7$\pm$4.9kg, p<0.05) after program. Fat free mass and RMR which tend to be higher after than before program were found not to be significantly. In addition, the serum HDL-cholesterol(54.3$\pm$8.1 vs 59.7$\pm$13.9mg/dl, p<0.05) and TG level(65.2$\pm$418 vs 89.4$\pm$65.6mg/dl, p<0.05) of the subjects increased at the end of the study significantly and significant correlation found between total-cholesterol and TG before program. When the other laboratory parameter were compared before and after program, hematocrit(35.1$\pm$3.3 vs 39.7$\pm$3.3%, p<0.001), platelet(225.9$\pm$49.6 vs 244.3$\pm$49.7cell/ul, p<0.05) and fasting glucose(88.0$\pm$6.5 vs 76.6$\pm$9.7mg/dl, p<0.001) increased significantly but hemoglobin(13.3$\pm$1.3 vs 12.9$\pm$1.3mg/dl, p<0.01) decreased. And in activities analysis, 'moderate activity(18.8 vs 5.8minutes, p<0.05)' clearly showed a significant decrease but 'severe activity(17.7 vs 11.4minutes, p<0.05)' showed a increase. These results suggest that continuous health-promoted program involved exercise and nutritional education at the public health center are effective to reduce body fat and to improve resting metabolic rate(RMR). Further research is required to develop more effective public health program for the middle aged women in community.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the usefulness of functional MR imaging (fMRI) for language mapping and determination of language lateralization. Materials and Methods : Functional maps of the language area were obtained during word generation tasks and decision task in ten volunteers (7 right handed, 3 left-handed). MR examinations were performed at 1.5T scanner with EPI BOLD technique. Each task consisted of three resting periods and two activation periods with each period of 30 seconds. Total acquisition time was 162 sec. SPM program was used for the postprocessing of images. Statistical comparisons were performed by using t-statistics on a pixel-by- pixel basis after global normalization by ANCOVA. Activation areas were topographically analyzed (p>0.001) and activated pixels in each hemisphere were compared quantitatively by lateralization index. Results : Significant activation signals were demonstrated in 9 of 10 volunteers. Activation signals were found in the premotor and motor cortices, the inferior frontal, inferior parietal, and mid-temporal lobes during stimulation tasks. In the right handed seven volunteers, activation of language areas was lateralized to the left side. Verb generation task produced stronger activation in the language areas and higher value of lateralization index than noun generation task or decision task. Conclusion : fMRI could be a useful non-invasive method for language mapping and determination of language dominance.

  • Background: Despite dyspnea is a predominant complaint of patients with respiratory disease, the mechanisms contributing to the sensation of breathlessness are poorly understood. Traditionally, physicians have measured objective pulmonary function to assess severity of dyspnea. But it will be also useful to measure subjective dyspnea index because dyspnea probably depends on a complex interplay of mechanical, experimental, emotional and other factors. Method: We measured breathlessness at rest, after Methacholine challenge and then bronchodilator inhalation using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Borg Scale Dyspnea Index (BSDI) in stable asthmatic patients. Spirometry was performed concomittently. Results: There was no correlation between dyspnea index and FEV1. There was also no correlation between the change in dyspnea index and change in FEV1. The change in dyspnea index after methacholine and bronchodilator was greater in clinically mild asthmatic patients than clinically severe symptomatic group. Conclusion: In asthmatic patients, there was a wide variation in sensory response for any given FEV1, and the change in perception of dyspnea was greater in those with clinically mild symptoms. The measurement of dyspnea index may yield information complementary to that obtained by spirometry.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the changes in the echolocation of Pipistrellus abramus according to environmental characteristics. The survey was conducted in the day-roosting site of P. abramus located in Gyeongju City (North Gyeongsang Province) from April to August, 2009. The environmental characteristics during the research were classified in six categories: the emergence time after sunset moving time from day roost to feeding areas; rice fields; forest edges; open spaces; and residential areas. Analysis results showed that there are differences in environmental characteristics and also differences between the moving time to the habitat and the moving time to capture preys. At the emergence time from day roost, Pipistrellus abramus used a FM signal with a short pulse-duration. In open spaces, however, they used a CF signal with a long pulse-duration. In different environmental situations, they used both FM and CF signals, although the types of pulse which they used were different. Except pulse-duration, there were significant differences in pulse-interval, peak-frequency, starting-frequency and ending-frequency between the movement among habitats and the movement to capture preys. Except the emergence time from day-roost, they showed a narrow band FM signal and a long pulse-duration that are suitable to search for insects by sensing echoes of insects when they moved among their habitats. When they were out to capture their preys, they showed a broad band FM signal and a short pulse-duration which enabled them to widely search and accurately locate their preys.
