Manufacturing of a Korean Hand Phantom with Human Electrical Properties at 835 MHz and 1,800 MHz Bands (835 MHz 및 1,800 MHz 대역에서 인체의 전기적 특성을 가지는 한국인 손 모양의 팬텀 제작)

  • Interest of the hand effect on the electromagnetic wave are internationally increasing with the increase of the use of the mobile phone. IEC TC106(International Electrotechnical Commission, Technical Committee 106) promotes international research exchange program in order to reflect the effect of human hands in the standard assessment method of human exposure dosimetry by the electromagnetic wave of mobile phones. Since current commercialized hand phantom is manufactured by taking into account the average size of westerners and provides only one grip posture, it imposes many restrictions on the accurate SAR measurement. Therefore, the development of proper hand phantom accounting for domestic situation and various grip posture capability is essential in order to analyze the accurate effect of human hand on the exposure estimation. In this paper, a jelly hand phantom suitable for Korean was manufactured with various grip posture capability at 835 MHz and 1,800 MHz bands. Although the tolerances of permittivity and conductivity of the manufactured hand phantom are with ${\pm}10%$ each, it was much less than CTIA(Cellular Telecommunication Industry Association) tolerance of ${\pm}20%$ at both bands. Its 3D CAD(3 Dimensional Computer Aided Design) file which was developed can be utilized for the simulation of human hand effect on SAR measurement of mobile phones. The findings in this study can be utilized for the analysis of human hand effect on SAR measurement of a mobile phone.

A Study on Development of Electro Magnetic Wave Absorbers for Mobile Phones (휴대전화 단말기용 전파 흡수체의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with research for development of electromagnetic wave absorbers in sheet type for mobile phones. By controlling the sendust ratio, the $Al(OH)_3$ coating, the thickness, the kind of binders, and the milling time, electromagnetic wave absorbers were prepared and examined. Central frequency shills toward lower 2.2 GHz, 1.29 GHz, 842 MHz with increasing thickness 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm of the absorber, and absorption ability controlled each 2.2 GHz to 1.91 GHz, 1.29 GHz to 801 MHz, 842 MH2 to 801 MHz adjust sendust amount from 80 wt% to 85 wt%. The absorption band of the electromagnetic wave absorber coated with $Al(OH)_3$ becomes larger than that of non-coated one. Sendust composite microwave absorbers mixed with CPE were prepared at $70^{\circ}C$ in temperature. The fabricated electromagnetic wave absorbers show a reflection coefficient 5.76 dB at 1.8 GHz in thickness of 0.85 mm.

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of particle size of Mn-Zn ferrite which is used as a material of electromagnetic wave absorber on electromagnetic wave properties. With increasing the particle size, the matching frequency is shifted toward lower frequency and the absorption ability of electromagnetic wave is decreased. We suggest that a sheet-type ferrite absorber composed of Mn-Zn ferrite with large particle is useful to compare with it composed of small particle size for mobile phone.

  • In this paper, cellularphone antenna was designed to be capable of being mounted on the circuit-board with co-planar feeding method. The designed antenna is fabricated by the following procedure : make the multi-layered dielectric ceramic($\varepsilon_{\tau}$=23) hexahedron($7.5mm\times4.5mm\times0.4mm$) and then produce λ/4 monopole radiation element with helical structure on the surface of the hexahedron. The results are as followings : Returnloss 27.36 dB, -10 dB bandwidth 76 MHz(3.97 %), H-plane average gain -9.43 dBd.

  • Many cellular phone volunteer studies have been conducted since such a social issue is raised that the long time usage of cellular phone may increase health risk. While there were various volunteer studies using GSM cellular phone on heart rate and blood pressure at abroad, very few studies using CDMA phone were conducted in domestic and abroad. In this study, the volunteer groups of 21 adults were exposed at 300 mW for half an hour, and the physiological parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiration rate, and skin impedance were measured. All the parameters' results did not reveal any differences between exposure and non-exposure conditions in adults.

Measurement of Electromagnetic Wave for the Selection of Certification Test Space at GSM Band (GSM 대역용 휴대전화 인증 시험 공간 확보를 위한 전파 환경 측정)

  • This paper presents the measurement results of strength of electromagnetic wave for GSM-900/GSM-1800 band which is used in Europe. The Giryong village and Sosan field are selected as candidate regions according to the measurement results in Gijang-gun, Busan. The vertical polarizations is about 12 dBm higher than horizontal polarization at two candidate places, and it is measured 25 dBm lower than urban. The maximum value of measured strength of vertical polarizations in the cellular/GSM-900 bands are -65 dBm at Giryong village and -69 dBm at Sosan field, respectively. The maximum value of measured results of PCS/GSM-1800 bands are -90.5 dBm at Giryong village and -85 dBm at Sosan field, respectively, We confirm that the receiving strength of electromagnetic wave are very weak below -65 dBm at two candidate places and the signals of GSM frequency bands not affect to conversional system, then it is considered as a suitable place for GSM mobile field test.

Development of Electromagnetic Wave Absorbers far Mobile Phone Using Sendust (Sendust를 이용한 휴대전화용 전파 흡수체의 개발)

  • In this paper, we fabricated sheet-type EM wave absorbers for mobile phones by using sendusts and tested EM wave absorption of it. The band-width of EM wave absorbers coated with $Al_2O_3$ were larger than non-coated EM wave absorbers. Particle size decreased with increasing milling time, which made the result of increasing of EM wave absorption. The fabricated EM wave absorbers show a reflection coefficient 17.4 dB at 946 MHz for a 4 mm sample and 5 dB at 1.8 GHz for a 1 mm sample.

  • EMF (Electromagnetic Field) is a valuable resource for living in a knowledge-based information society. The EMF is used in home appliances that make our lives easy and convenient, and in telecommunication devices such as mobile phones, personal computers, medical devices and broadcasting towers. However, the biological hazards associated with EMF exposure are also increasing in signal from telecommunication devices. Studies of the effects of EMF exposure on humans have been conducted for a long time, but it has not yet been demonstrated whether the EMF effect is harmful. In this paper, we examine the electromagnetic field emitted from various electronic devices around living and its effect.

  • The phenomenon degrading reception performance of DVB broadcasting signal is caused by collocation of plural communication modules in the GSM-900 cellular phone with a built-in DVB-H receiver. This paper offers how to improve performance of the DVB-H receiver by applying digital filter that is using DSP techniques to cancel GSM signal interfering to the DVB-H receiver which is collocated in a single user's GSM terminal. In the demodulation part of the DVB-H receiver, the DVB reception performance can be greatly improved by removing interference components of GSM signal, which is flowed with DVB signal, to the noise cancellation filtering algorithm using difference of characteristics between GSM modulated signal and OFDM signal.

TEM 도파관을 이용한 전자파 장해 측정 연구 및 표준화 동향

  • EMI/EMS 측정을 위해서는 주변 전자파 잡음(background noise)이 낮은 야외시험장(Open Area Test Site)이 가장 바람직하나, 근래 전자(전기 기기 사용의 증가와 방송.무선통신 시스템의 다양화로 인한 인공잡음(artificial noise)의 증대로 조건에 부합된 부지 선정이 어렵고, 설치 비용이 매우 크며 날씨 변화에 따라 시험 계획이 변경 될 수도 있는 단점이 있다. 전자파 분-무반사실(Semi Anechoic Chamber)은 대부분의 환경 잡음을 감쇠시키므로 야외시험장처럼 장소의 구애를 받지 않아 도시나 혹은 제품 생산지 가까이에 설치 운용이 가능하다. 그러나 큰 설치 공간과 많은 시설 유지 비용을 필요로 하며, 저주파 대역에서는 반사에 의한 공진을 완전히 제거할 수 없어 성능이 떨어진다. 또한, 최근 컴퓨터 CPU의 동작주파수가 급속하게 높아지고 PCS, IMT-2000 등과 같은 이동전화의 사용주파수도 계속해서 높아짐에 다라 미연방통신위원회(Federal Communication Commission)에서는 5㎓까지의 복사 방출 시험을 요구하고 있다. IEC 61000-4-3 복사 내성 시험규격도 휴대폰 주파수인 2㎓까지 확장되었으며 IMT-2000, Bluetooth 등 새로운 이동통신서비스가 속속 개발됨에 따라 18㎓ 까지 시험 주파수가 확장되는 추세이다. 그러나, 현재 국내 각 연구실에서 보유하고 있는 야외시험장이나 전자파 반-무반사실의 경우 1㎓이상에서의 시험이 곤란하여 수 ㎓주파수대역에서 시험이 가능한 복사 및 내성시험 시설이 필요하게 되었다. 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 고안된 대용 측정 시설 중 대표적인 것이 TEM 셀이나 GTEM셀과 같은 TEM 도파관(waveguide) 형태의 장비들이다. 이들은 본래 EMS 측정을 위한 장비이지만 협소한 공간이나 외부와의 전자파 간섭의 우려가 없고, 설치가 비교적 자유로워 여러 연구기관에서 도파관 원리를 이용한 측정 방식을 연구(개발하여 범용적인 전자파 적합성 측정 장비로서 활용하고 있다. 야외시험장과 무반사실 등이 안테나에 의한 피시험기기 주변 공간에서의 1점 측정으로 인해 시험 시간이 많아 소요되는 공통적인 단점이 있는 반면, TEM 도파관에 의한 측정은 일단 피시험기기의 모델링 정보만 얻어지면 계산에 의해 EMI 측정을 바로 할 수 있다. <표 1>에서 현재 상용화되어 사용되고 있는 TEM/GTEM 셀, 야외 시험장 및 전자파 무반사실에 대해 EMI 측정과 관련된 몇 가지 사안에 대해 비교하였다. 본 문서에서는 야외시험장이나 전자파 반-무반사실 등과 같은 기존 EMI/EMS 측정 시설의 단점을 보완하고, 광대역 특성을 갖는 대용 측정 시설로서의 TEM 도파관에 대해 소개하고 야외시험장 결과와의 상관관계 알고리즘 및 표준화 동향에 대해 기술하였다. 2절에서는 대표적인 TEM 도파관 구조의 측정 시설인 TEM 셀과 GTEM 셀의 전기적.구조적 특징에 대해 간단히 기술하고, 3절에서는 TEM 셀과 GTEM 셀에서이 측정결과를 이용하여 야외 시험장 결과를 얻어내는 상관관계 알고리즘에 대해 기술하였다. 4절에서는 IEC/CISPR와 TC77에서의 표준화 활동을 중심으로 현재 진행중인 TEM 도파관 관련 표준화 동향과 내용에 대해 기술하고자 한다.
