This study analyzed the questions posted on the chemistry Q&A board by students and teachers in a chemistry education homepage, in order to understand the difficulties in learning and teaching chemistry. The different tendencies were found in the contents and the motivations of questions by students and teachers. In Chemistry I, students raised many questions in the 'Water' unit, while teachers raised many ones in the 'Chemical compound in our life' unit. In Chemistry II, students asked many questions in the 'Gas, liquid, solid' unit, while teachers did in 'Chemical reaction and energy' unit. Students' motivations of questioning were 'Explanation of unclear concept', and 'Problem solving', while teachers' motivations were 'Searching information', and 'Question in experiment'. The Q&A board provided a field in exchanging informations needed in learning and teaching chemistry. Educational implications were discussed on the use of Q&A board in chemistry education.
In this study, clicker, also known as classroom response system, was applied to the chemistry method course at the university in Gyeongbuk, and preservice chemistry teachers' perceptions of clicker were surveyed. Before starting lecture, operation and class application of clickers were introduced to preservice teachers, and then 4-5 questions were presented to them in most classes during the term. After preservice teachers were asked to answer the questions, lecturer gave feedback based on the class answer distribution. Questions presented to preservice teachers were recall and/or understanding questions on learning contents, opinion questions, and questions about muddiest point. At the end of semester, preservice teachers were asked to rate their perception of clikers in terms of likert scale and essay type. They had positive perceptions of clicker use in aspects of cognitive effects, affective effects and media characteristics. They preferred conceptual understanding questions and monitoring questions among 8 clicker question types. Some cases using clickers in lecture and educational implications were also included.
This study is conducted to analyze the questioning styles of the parts of chemistry in 17 middle school science textbooks in terms of frequency, types, and placement of questions. The instrument was the Textbook Questioning Strategies Assessment Instrument (TQSAI) developed by the Cooperative Teacher Preparation Program, University of California in 1975. An averaged ratio of questionings/sentences (Q/S) of seventeen textbooks was 13.6% varying from 6.8% to 19.7%. Various question types were used in titles, early and middle steps in the sections except late steps. The comprehending questions were most frequent in the types of inquiry courses and the focusing questions were most frequent in the characteristics of instructional courses. The percentages of empirical questions for the total numbers of questions were slightly larger than nonempirical questions with values of 54.2% and 45.8%, respectively.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the students' conceptions about the reaction rate changes during the chemical equilibrium shifts and also whether the questions about basic concepts of the reaction rate are helpful for the students' understanding of reaction rate changes during the chemical equilibrium shifts. The subjects were 100 students in the 12th grade. The questionnaires were composed of A, B, and A' set, which had to be answered sequentially. The A set consisted of questions asking the change of reaction rate when chemical equilibrium was shifted, the B set was to testify the basic concepts of the reaction rate, and the A' set was the same as the A set. The results showed that the students' understanding of the reverse reaction rate change was lower than that of the forward reaction rate change during the equilibrium shift. Also it was found that students' understanding of the reaction rate change caused by adding the reactant was fairly good while their understanding of the reaction rate change caused by temperature increment was very poor. Since the students marked very high scores in the B set questions, their poor understanding for the reaction rate changes during the equilibrium shifts was not seemed to be due to the lacks of the basic knowledge of reaction rate. Instead, it was due to the failure of applying the basic knowledge of reaction rate to the changes of reaction conditions. It was also found that the average scores of A' set were statistically higher than those of A set. It means the B set items were helpful for the students to solve the A' set items. These results evidenced the possibility of set questionnaires could help the students to connect the related concepts in solving the problems.
In this study, the pre-service chemistry teachers’ understanding of potential energy curve was investigated. The subjects were 24 junior students and 26 senior students studying chemistry education in a college of education. A concept questionnaire consisted of thought experiments with different initial conditions was developed to survey the pre-service teachers’ conceptions of potential energy curve. The survey results showed that the pre-service chemistry teachers had difficulties to accept the negative values for potential energy and total energy. And they knew the mechanical energy conservation but they could not apply it properly to the thought experiment situations given in the questionnaire. Also they had the knowledge about the direction of force exerted between the two balls, but many of them believed that the balls would stop moving at the bottom of potential energy curve well. In addition, it was discovered that few pre-service teachers could relate the thought experiments to the chemical bonding, the liquefaction of gas, and the molecular vibration.

This study was conducted with two science classes of the 8th grade students in Seoul during 4 weeks. The numbers of students in the classes were 37 and 38, and they were taught for 12 class hours. Questions obtained for 12 class hours from 75 students were analyzed and grouped into patterns. All together 1.108 questions from the students were classified into six categories: 'No Connection' (7%). 'Contradiction' (3%), 'Recall' (23%), 'Reframe' (40%), 'Application' (18%), and 'Extension' (9%). Irrelevant questions to learning and questions of false proposition were classified into 'No Connection' and 'Contradiction', respectively. Questions repeating what were already explained were grouped into 'Recall'. Those requiring other examples and/or additional explanations were grouped into 'Reframe'. Those requiring practical applications and/or explanations for other concrete facts were grouped into 'Application'. Finally. Questions for higher and/or other concepts were grouped into 'Extension'. We also discussed educational implications of the above categorized questions in this study.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the inquiry tendency of North Korean chemistry textbook by Romey's method. We analyzed the inquiry tendencies of texts, figures, questions, activities, and summaries by Romey's method. And the following results were compared with those of previous South Korean studies, which method was the same. The 20,017 texts, 541 figures, 140 questions, 243 activities, and 25 summaries in 5 chapters of chemistry textbook of the Higher-level middle school 1 in the Kim Jong-Un Era were analyzed. Results were as follows: texts were authoritarian tendency, figures were authoritarian tendency, questions were excessive inquiry tendency, activities were inquiry tendency, and chapter summaries were drastic authoritarian tendency. The inquiry tendency of North Korean chemistry textbook in higherlevel middle school showed similar tendencies as the textbooks of South Korean chemistry I textbook in the 6th National Science Curriculum. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic information and data to understand the inquiry teaching that North Korea science education is aiming at.

In this study, a learning-teaching model enhancing the students to ask questions was developed and the influence of its application to the lesson of 'Chemical Change and Elements' of the 8th grade was investigated. This learning-teaching model was constructed initially by completing the work-sheet to activate student's question-asking, then by writing down their questions or uncertainties in the class, and finally with the feedback of student's question to the individual and to the class. Treatment and control groups (2 classes each) were selected from a girls' middle school in Seoul. and taught for 12 class hours during 4 weeks for this study. Before instruction, the test of attitudes toward science lessons and the test of adoption of scientific attitudes were administered, and the science scores of the previous course were obtained for the covariate. After instruction, the conception test. the achievement test, the test of attitudes toward science lessons, and the test of adoption of scientific attitudes were administered. The TOSRA (Test of Science-Related Attitudes) was used both for the test of attitudes toward science lessons and for the test of adoption of scientific attitudes. The study revealed that the treatment group showed significant differences from the control group in the scores of the conception test (p<.01) and of the achievement test (p<.05). But in attitudes toward science lessons and adoption of scientific attitudes. there were not significant differences between the two groups, even though the scores of the treatment group were a little higher than those of the control group. Educational implications of the effect of science teaching on the questioning activity of students are also discussed.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the aspects of verbal interactions of teacher?small group students by categorizing those interactions which affect students' thinking thus to improve teacher's interaction. First, verbal interactions of teacher-small group students were divided into two categories ?Behaviors related to problem-solving, and Others. Behaviors related to problem-solving were also classified into two elements?Receiving opinion based on the students' thinking process, and Giving help based on the teacher's thinking process. Receiving opinion consists of agreement, question, correction, objection while giving help consists of information, hint, question, summary, and ask & answer. Most of teacher-small group students' interactions were in the form of teacher's questions and students' answers, and teacher's questions tended to require simple answers rather than answers from deep thought. In addition, there was a tendency that the teacher focused more on her own thinking process than students' and that she interacted with only a couple of students who gave correct answers. As a result, even after teacher's scaffolding, many students were often unable to understand the particular contents. However, through the interactions, the teacher made students to have confidence by restating their opinions and agreeing or praising them. She also created an atmosphere where students can give their opinions freely. From the observation of interactions, we can find that students' thinking process is affected by the characteristics of teacher's interactions such as expression of agreement and encouragement, hint giving rise to thought, interactions based on the students' thinking process, permission of students' activities and questions, allowing time for students' thought, and correction of wrong opinions. At this point, educational implications of teacher-small group students' interactions were drawn.

A questionary survey was performed to invetigate the citizen's attitude concerning the waste incineration facility. People disliked most cremetorim followed by waste transfer station, chmical factory, waste incineration facility and sanitary landfill. Most people favored 1km minimum distance of incineration facilities from the residence. Most people think that we need most composting facilities in the future followed by sanitary landfill and incineration facilities. Majority of people was willing to accept the perfect incineration facilities near their residence. However, 37.6% answered no. Most people accepted complusory measures by the goverment in the location of incineration facilites. One incineration facility per one city or Gun was slightly favored than multy-city or Gun incineration facility. People think that perfect thchnology most important to overcome Nimby's.
