Antioxidant Activities of Hydropoic-cultured Ginseng Roots and Leaves (수경재배 인삼 뿌리와 잎의 항산화 활성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant activities on hydropoic-cultured ginseng roots (HGR) and leaves (HGL). The samples were lyophilized, extracted with 80% ethanol, and then evaluated the antioxidant activities compare with conventional-cultured ginseng. Total polyphenol content of ginseng, HGR, and HGL were 128.85±0.41, 115.74±1.28, and 282.15±5.15 mg/g, respectively. The DPPH radical scavenging activity(IC50) was the highest value of 6.47±0.13 mg/mL in the HGL. The ABTS radical scavenging activity was the highest value of 29.37±0.37 mg AA eq/g in HGL, and ginseng and HGR were 10.23±0.49 and 8.18±0.37 mg AA eq/g, respectively. The reducing power of ginseng, HGR, and HGL were 0.56±0.01, 0.53±0.01, and 0.68±0.01, respectively. Chelating effect was the highest value of 92.65±3.42% in HGL. The results of this study suggest that antioxidant activities in hydropoic-cultured ginseng leaves could have significant health benefits.

Fabrication of $\textrm{ZrB}_2$ by SHS Process and Reaction-bonded $\textrm{ZrB}_2$-ZrC Composite (SHS법에 의한 $\textrm{ZrB}_2$ 합성과 반응소결된 $\textrm{ZrB}_2$-ZrC계 복합체의 제조)

  • $ZrB _2$ was prepared from a mixture of $ZrO_2$, $B_2$$O_3$and Mg by SHS method. The combustion products were successfully obtained from a mixture of $Zro_2$:$B_2$$O_3$:Mg=1:2.0:8.5(molar ratio). MgO, by-product, was removed to 92.7% by leaching with 1M HCl solution at 9$0^{\circ}C$, for 10 hours. After leaching, the mean particle size of the resultant $ZrB_2$powders was 23.6$\mu\textrm{m}$. $ZrB_2$-ZrC composite was suitably obtained from a mixture of C/Zr=1.2 molar ratio by arc-melting method. The density of arc-melted specimen increased by adding excess zirconium content(x). The bulk density was 6.17g/㎤ for x=0, and 6.37g/㎤ x=4. Vickers hardness of arc-melted specimen was /$1290kg\textrm{mm}^2$ for x=0, and fracture toughness increased to 4.2MPa.m\ulcornerforx=4 compared to 3.4MPa.m\ulcornerfor x=0.

Preparation and Characteristics of $Al_2O_3/TZP$ Composites Using Liquid Infiltration Technique (액상침투법을 이용한 $Al_2O_3/TZP$ 복합체의 제조 및 특성)

  • Two kinds of $Al_2O_3/TZP$ composites were prepared using the liquid infiltration of 3Y-TZP and 12Ce-TZP precursors into hte sintered porous $Al_2O_3$. Small TZP additions(~11.0wt%) had increased the strength(19~59%) and fracture toughness(14~157%) of the sintered Al2O3 material($1600^{\circ}C$, 2h). The addition of 3Y-TZP was effective on case of the strength. By the way, in case of the fracture toughness that of 12Ce-TZP was effective. Infiltrated TZP was concentrated on the surface where its grain growth was enhanced and $Al_2O_3$ grain growth was effectively inhibit-ed, when compared to the inner region of the composite. The indentation crack was propagated through both intergranular modes and transgranular and the proportion if intergranular fracture was the larger in $Al_2O_3/12Ce-TZP$.

  • Visual system of Korean Salamander(Hynobius leechi) was morphologically studied. Fertilized eggs in egg sacs were collected and were developed in sterile saline solution. Various sized larvae of 5-30mm in length were fixed. Specimens were paraffin sectioned and were observed under light microscope. In 5mm length larva, lens rudiment induced by optic cup was combined with sensory ectoderm. The shape of lens was changed as spherical in 12mm length larva, but the retinal layer did not differentiated into three layers. The differentiation of retinal layer was clear in 14-16mm length larva. The central region of lens fibers was degenerated. Iris and ciliary body were formed from the marginal zone of optic cup in 20mm length larva. Choroid was thicker in elder eye of 30mm length larva and cartilage developed at outer region of optic cup. The outer segment of photoreceptor cell layer grew longitudinally. Optic nerve was connected to the ventral part of brain through cartilage.

Effect of skin dose by materials located in treatment field (방사선 치료 시 조사야 내에 위치할 수 있는 이물질이 체표선량에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose : In radiotherapy, various materials are used to located in treatment field unintentionally. It increases the dose delivered to the skin by interactions of the X-ray within the materials and occurs unwanted skin reaction.(due to the dose build-up effect) This aim of the this study is to measure the increase in skin dose when 13 materials are located in treatment field. Methods : Photon beam measurements were made using an plane-parallel chamber (Markus, PTW-Freiburg) in a polystyrene phantom. skin dose were measured using various overlaying 13 materials. a fixed geometry of a $10{\times}10cm$ field, a SSD=100cm and photon energy 4MV on Varian CLINAC 600C accelerator were used for all measurements. Results : There is an increase in skin dose for all materials($16.4{\sim}160.1\%$). As a percentage of maximum dose, the lowest skin dose were measured for the underwear with silk($43.2\%$) and the highest were measured for the 100m1 fluid-bag($96.6\%$) Conclusion : There is a significant increase in skin dose with 13 materials in the treatment field. a significant increase in skin dose can occur which could produce unwanted skin reaction. considerations for placement of 13 materials to be outside the treatment field whenever possible should be used to keep skin dose to a minimum level.

The Influence of Reaction Conditions on the Preparation of Ultra Fine Cu Powders with Wet-reduction Process (액상-환원법으로 초미세 Cu 분말 제조 시 반응 조건의 영향)

  • Ultra-fine Copper particles for a conductive paste in electric-electronic field were prepared using wet-reduction process with hydrazine hydrate ($N_{2}H_4{\cdot}H_{2}O$) as a reductor. The effect of reaction conditions such as the amount of dispersion ($Na_{4}O_{7}P_2{\cdot}10H_{2}O$) and reductor ($N_{2}H_4{\cdot}H_{2}O$) on the particle size and shape for the prepared Cu powders was investigated. The quantity of dispersion and reductor varied from 0 to 0.0025 M and from 5 to 40 ml at a reaction temperature of $70^{\circ}C$, respectively. The particle size, shape, and structure for the obtained Cu particles were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS and TGA. The aggregation of Cu particles was reduced with relatively increasing of the amount of dispersion at fixed other reaction conditions. The smaller Cu particle with size of approximately 300nm was obtained from 0.032 M $CuSO_4$ with adding of 0.0025 M $Na_{4}O7P_2{\cdot}10H_{2}O$ and 40ml $N_{2}H_4{\cdot}H_{2}O$ at a reaction temperature of $70^{\circ}C$.

A Case of Portosystemic Shunt in a Domestic Shorthair Cat (한국 집고양이의 문맥전신션트 한 증례)

  • A 3-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair cat was presented with a chief complaint of sudden onset of intermittent seizures occurring five times a day. Physical examination revealed the copper colored iris and loss of menace response at both eyes. Abnormalities of blood works and serum chemistry revealed mild erythrocytosis, severe microcytosis, and threefold increase in ALT activity. Additional liver function tests results were increased bile acid and $NH_3$ concentration. Radiographic study revealed multifocal nodules of the liver and an extrahepatic shunt was noted by ultraonography, which was confirmed by computed tomography as multiple extrahepatic shunts. The cat was scheduled for surgery applying an ameloid ring to occlude the shunt gradually. Diazepam and lactulose were instituted to the patient. However, clinical signs worsened despite medical management with shortened interval of seizures and the patient died due to cardiac arrest.

Effect of Additives on Synthesis of $\textrm{ZrB}_{2}$ By SHS Process and Its Densification (SHS법에 의한 붕화지르코늄의 합성 및 치밀화에 미치는 첨가제의 영향)

  • ZrO2, B2O3 및 AI을 사용하여 SHS법에 의한 붕화지르코늄을 합성을 하고 산화철과 알루미늄 분말의 첨가가 합성물의 치밀화에 미치는 영향에 대하여 검토하였다. 합성물중에 존재하는 결정상은 대부분이 ZrB2와 $\alpha$-AI2O3상이었다. 산화붕소와 알루미늄의 몰비가 1.0:3.3이상일 때 합성물의 치밀화는 크게 증가하였고, ZrB2 입자도$\alpha$-AI2O3용융상과 더불어 조대하였다. 산화철 1목에 대하여 알루미늄을 1-3몰을 첨가한 것과 산화철 1.5몰에 대하여 알루미늄을 3몰 첨가시 $\alpha$-AI2O3를 중심으로하는 슬라그상으로부터 용융상의 분이가 가능하였고, 이들 용융상에 존재하는 결정상은 ZrB2이외에 Fe, Fe2B, Zr2Fe상이었다. 용융상의 상대밀도는 산화철 1몰에 대하여 알루미늄을 1몰 첨가시 83.2%인 반면에 그 이상의 첨가량에 대해서는 치밀화는 크게 증가하여 알루미늄을 3몰 첨가한 경우 상대밀도는 93.7%로서 최대를 나타내었다.

  • Nanoscale-biodegradable behaviors of synthesized biphasic calcium phosphates (BCP) powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), lattice parameter, and field emission microscopy (FE-SEM). The calcined BCP powders in vitro tested in Hank's balanced salt solution (pH = 7.4, $36.5^{\circ}C$) for 3 weeks. The calculated unit cell parameters for BCP have shown lattice distortion and expansion as irregular changes in the a and c-axis after in vitro.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the formation of apatite layer on two different titanium substrate treated with biomimetic method, Titanium plates were heat-treated at different temperatures of $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, and $800^{\circ}C$ for 5 h in air atmosphere, And then, that plates were chemically treated with an alkali solution of 1 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH), The pre-treated titanium plates were soaked in the simulated body fluid (SBF) of Kokubo's recipe, After soaking for 7 days and 21 days in SBF, the coated layers formed on the titanium plates were characterized and compared with the morphology and chemical composition, The apatite formation was more activated on the titanium plates chemically treated with NaOH compared with the only heat-treated titanium plates.
