Calculation of Roughness Coefficient in Gravel-bed River with Observed Water Levels (실측 수위에 의한 자갈하천의 조도계수 산정)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the characteristics of Manning's roughness coefficient according to change of discharge by using observed data obtained from a stable gravel-bed river and to investigate the applicability of the relevant existing empirical methods to it. Observed water level and discharge data are used as input data for the USGS computer program NCALC model for calculation of the roughness coefficient. Calculated values are compared with roughness values which are estimated with four widely used methods. The results show that though the empirical methods are able to give similar roughness values only for flood flow, they seem to have rather high uncertainty because of necessity of subjective judgement and differences of resultant values. Roughness coefficients for normal-low flow cannot be estimated from the existing empirical formulae. Especially, using the Manning equation for calculating them should be careful as this provides a wide range of estimated values in normal-low flow. The relations between the roughness coefficient and characteristic size of bed materials are different from them in flood flow even though they have a close relations.

  • Porous pavements can provide road users with beneficial characteristics such as skid resistance and surface water drainage under rainy condition, and they cause less tire-road noise than conventional hot mix asphalt(HMA) pavements. However, voids of porous pavements are easily clogged by road debris at early stages, which leads to frequent maintenance works. Therefore, this study focused on the way of minimizing void clogging in porous pavements. During mixture design, the quantity of coarse aggregate has been increased to form many straight void conduits (SVCs) in porous HMAs. These SVCs were found to be effective resisting the void clogging problems. Four different porous HMAs(19mm, 13mm, 10mm, and 8mm) were developed and placed on highway roads. Their performances were validated with field tests during the past four years.

Effectiveness of Learning Flow and Academic Achievement on Learning Activities with Real-Time Feedback utilizing a Smart Clicker App in Higher Education (대학교육에서 스마트 클리커 앱을 활용한 실시간 피드백 학습활동이 학습몰입 및 학업성취에 미치는 영향)

  • The advancement of smart-phones and their market expansion has led to the development of numerous educational applications (apps). In this study, learning activities were designed for real-time feedback utilizing a smart clicker app for effective communication between the instructors and students, and to provide educational results, such as learning flow and academic achievement. These strategies were applied in the actual educational fields, and 70 college students were taking classes with the same curriculum. Experiments involving an experimental group and control group were conducted. The results of the t-test were follows. In terms of learning flow, a significant difference was observed between the two groups, but not in terms of academic achievement.

Permeability Variation With Lift Thickness of Asphalt Pavement (아스팔트 포장의 시공 포설두께에 따른 투수계수 변화특성)

  • The permeability of HMA(hot mixed asphalt) is a major influencing factor for long-term performance of the pavement. Especially, the lift thickness of the pavement during construction causes a wide range of physical properties of HMA. This study investigates the correlationship between the lift thickness and the physical properties of HMA through a series of laboratory experiments. The specimens were cored from a construction site of the dense graded asphalt pavement. The cored samples have various lift thickness and the number of compaction for the study. The results of the study show that the permeability of the sample decreases with the apperant density and t/NMAS, and the air void ratio. Therefore, the commonly used construction method as a constant lift thickness regardless of conditions needs to be reconsidered.

고습도 유닛쿨러를 사용하는 저온저장고의 배 저장효과

  • 신선한 채소나 과일은 무게의 74~94%에 상당하는 수분을 함유하고 있는데, 이러한 수분은 자칫하면 빠져나가기 쉽다. 품질이 우수한 채소나 과일이라도 수분손실이 생기면 다시는 보충할 수 없기 때문에 겉껍질을 마르고 쭈글쭈글하게 되어 품질등급과 가격결정에 손해가 된다. 또 무게의 5~l0%까지 수분이 줄어들면 상품성을 잃게되고, 무게단위로 판매되는 채소와 과일은 수분손실이 곧 무게감소이므로 총수입도 줄어드는 원인이 된다. 따라서 채소나 과일을 수확 한 후에 수분손실이 생기지 않도록 잘 관리하는 것은 농가소득과 직결되는 중요한 일이다. 그러나 기존의 저온저장고들은 저장고 내의 상대습도가 70~85%의 범위로 조성되고 있으며, 이러한 저습도의 문제를 해결하기 위하여 저장고의 바닥에 물을 뿌리는 등의 작업을 하고 있으나 문제가 해결되지는 않는다. 이에 따라 농업기계화연구소에서는 저온저장고 내의 상대습도를 90% 이상으로 유지할 수 있는 유닛쿨러를 '01년에 개발하였고,'02~'03년에 이것을 실제로 농가의 저온저장고에 설치하여 그 효과를 실증하였는데 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 현장연구에 사용된 저온저장고는 천안시에 있는 이진기 농가의 25평형 배 저온저장고 2동이었으며, 한 동은 시험구로 한 동은 대조구로 사용하였다. 2. 배의 저장온도는 0~-0.2$^{\circ}C$이었고, 상대습도는 대비 저온저장고의 경우 75~90% 범위에 있었으나 신기술투입 저온저장고에서는 98%로 유지되었다. 또 냉각기에 생기는 얼음을 제거하기 위해 작동되는 전기히터의 작동시간은 대비 저온저장고에서는 하루에 7회, 회당 45분 씩 이었고, 신기술 투입 저온저장고에서는 하루에 1회, 회당 30분 씩 이었다. 3. 배를 플라스틱 상자에 담아 저장할 때 대비 저온저장고에서는 111일 동안에 11.7%의 중량감모가 발생하였으나, 신기술투입 저온저장고에서는 5.6%의 중량감모만이 발생하여 약 50%의 중량감모를 줄일 수 있었으며, 배의 색깔이나 경도도 대비구 보다 우수하였다. 4. 배를 비닐로 포장하여 대비 저온저장고에 저장한 경우와 비닐로 포장하지 않고 신기술투입 저온저장고에 저장한 경우를 비교할 때 11월~다음해 1월 까지는 중량감모, 과피색깔 및 경도에 큰 차이가 없었으나, 2월부터는 비닐로 포장하여 대비 저온저장고에 저장한 배의 품질변화가 급격히 증가되어 중량감모, 과피색깔 및 경도가 신기술 투입시 보다 급속하게 나빠졌다.

Comparison of Geogrid Bonding Methods under Asphalt Overlay Layer for Reflection Cracking Retardation (아스팔트 덧씌우기 하부의 Geogrid 부착방법에 따른 반사균열 지연특성 비교)

  • This study was carried out to select most efficient bonding methods of geogrid at the interface of old concrete pavement before placing asphalt overlay layer for reflection cracking retardation. Three bonding methods, a RSC-4 emulsified asphalt, a compound and an unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) were compared in this study. Three types of asphalt mixture (AC 60-80, RLDPE 8%, PG 76-22) and a dense-graded aggregate were used for overlay asphalt pavement. A reinforcing material which consists of a woven fabric underneath a glass fiber grid was used. An expedite test method which is for simulating mixed mode (mode I and II) fracture test was performed using a wheel tracker in laboratory. Cracking development by load repetition was measured as fatigue life (number of load cycle) and expansion of specimen body were measured for each test specimen. The results showed that UPR was the best and RSC-4 the next. But considering field applicability, RSC-4 was considered as an appropriate choice for bonding reinforcing material.

  • Volume change of the dredged soils is composed of the volume loss of soil particle flowing over an outflow weir with water and settlement due to both the self-weight consolidation in reclaimed layer and the desiccation at the surface of reclaimed layer. In order to estimate the amount of soil particles flowing over an outflow weir with water, the evaluation procedure of loss ratio of the dredged soils is proposed in the present study based on the Marsal's modified breakage theory and the results of hydrometer analyses. To verify a validity of the proposed procedure, evaluated loss ratio is compared with results from the other existing methods. The model test results and those of field test were compared and analyzed. Also, the variation of soil loss ratio was examined through the model test in the lab.

A Basic Study on Crushability of Sands and Characteristics of Particle Strength (모래의 파쇄성과 단입자강도 특성에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • Particle crushing is an important and essential factor in interpreting the strength and deformation properties of granular materials in the case of geotechnical problems related to soil crushability. As a recent field problem, the exploitation of offshore oil reserves in tropical and sub-tropical coastal shelf areas has shown that the behaviour of soils containing carbonates is markedly different from predominantly silica sands. In this study, as a first step in making a mechanical framework of granular materials incorporating the soil crushability, single particle fragmentation tests were carried out on four different types of sands in order to clarify the characteristics of the single particle fragmentation strength as related to soil crushability. The single particle strength was considered with the influence of the particle shapes, the amount of mineral components and the particle sizes. The soil particle strength corresponding $D_{50}$ of soil distribution curve has shown the lower value, the more the carbonate component and the more angular the particle shape.

  • Engineering properties of soils is studied by permeating injection of water-glass chemical grout by use of a large sized grouting equipment of 1.5 shot system. Furthermore, the effectiveness of chemical groutinig by taking water-glass chemical grout combined with portland-cement for the purpose of improving the soil strength is confirmed. Relationships between main factors which cause the effectiveness of chemical grouting are described, and the factors are velocity and temperature of flowing water; grain size distribution and density of soils; density, viscosity, gel time and volume of grouts; injection pressure and grouting process. Improvement of the effectiveness of chemical grouting in flowing water by preventing the dilution and flowing down of grouts is investigated. Moreover, local shear failures and upheaval phenomena of ground are also investigated by field measurement.

  • 하천공사의 매립 및 준설 시 뿐만 아니라 최근에는 호우 시에도 발생하는 고농도 오탁수의 유출 확산으로 인하여 주변 수역의 수산자원 및 자연환경에 심각한 영향을 미치고 있다. 특히 유사는 하천과 호소에 유입되어 탁도를 증가시켜 수자원의 이용가치를 저하시키며, 박테리아나 각종 미생물의 이동 매개체가 되고 있다. 또한 퇴적된 유사는 유량이 증가하면 다시 침식되어 부유상태가 되며 이때에 영양염류나 독성물질이 재용출 되기도 하는 등 하천의 물리 및 토양환경의 장 단기적인 변화를 유발하는 원인이 된다. 결국 유사는 다양한 방식으로 하천과 호소의 생태환경에 큰 변화를 초래한다. 부유토사의 발생 가능한 피해의 범위와 정도는 유역의 부유토사 발생율과 하천, 호소 퇴적물의 성분종류와 입도분포, 그리고 유속에 따라 결정된다. 따라서 탁수의 영향범위를 예측하고, 악영향이 예측될 경우에는 탁도를 저하시킬 수 있는 오탁물질의 저하기법을 적용하여 그 대책을 수립하여야 한다. 현재 정부가 역점을 두고 있는 4대강 살리기 사업 중 하나인 하천 준설 사업 시 발생되는 고농도 오탁수는 주변 수역의 수자원 및 자연환경에 심각한 영향을 미치므로 자연환경의 보존, 해양자원을 보호하기 위하여 오탁물질의 제어가 반드시 필요한 실정이다. 기존의 오탁 저감시설이나 방법의 경우 오탁물질의 확산을 제어하는데 한계가 있고 오탁물질의 종류와 관계없이 일률적으로 시공함으로서 오탁제어 효과가 의문 시 되고 있다. 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위하여 오탁물질의 확산 범위를 줄이고 침강효율을 높이는 방법을 찾아 오탁확산 제어 효율을 개선할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 오탁물질 제어 시 2차 응집물로 인한 오염이 발생하는 않는 천연광물 제올라이트를 이용한 실내실험을 통하여 고농도 탁수의 탁도 저감효율을 파악하여 고농도 탁수의 탁도 저감에 대한 제올라이트의 적용 가능성을 살펴보았다. 4대강 살리기 사업 중인 OO강 OO공구의 OO보 현장에서 하천 준설 시 발생하는 고농도 탁수를 이온을 첨가한 제올라이트를 이용하여 확산제어에 관한 효과를 검토한 결과 2,000NTU 정도의 고농도로 유하하는 탁수에 대하여 제올라이트 혼합 후 20분이 경과한 시점에 제거효율이 90%이상으로 제올라이트의 탁수저감 효과가 대단히 크다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
