The Effects of Subjective Happiness and Status and Growth in the Virtual World on Changes in Their Subjective Happiness (주관적 행복과 가상 세계에서의 지위 및 성장이 주관적 행복 변화에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to explore the relationship between social status and happiness in the virtual world, which was not dealt with in previous studies. In addition, this study checked whether people were interested in social status itself or social status growth according to their level of happiness. To this end, the researcher composed conditions of high and low social status, and conditions of large and small growth in social status in online games, and presented them differently depending on the participant. Next, the researcher measured how much happiness level changed before and after exposure to each condition. As a result, happy participants had less of an effect of status on happiness in online games. However, unhappy participants were found to be happy when their status in online games was high and unhappy when they were low. Happy participants also paid attention to whether their status in online game had grown. However, unhappy participants paid attention to their high and low status in online games. This study has implications in that it is a rare study on the effect of happiness on the judgment of social status in the virtual world.

Mediating effects of positive parenting attitude, self-esteem, and depression on the relationship between parental happiness and children's happiness (부모의 행복과 자녀의 행복의 관계에서 긍정적 양육태도, 자아존중감, 우울의 매개효과)

  • This study aims to examine the mediating effects of positive parenting attitudes, self-esteem, and depression on the relationship between parental happiness and children's happiness. To this end, the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 were used. Structural equation modeling was implemented based on 2,551 data collected from fourth-grade children of elementary school and their parents. The happiness felt by the parents was found to have a positive correlation with positive parenting attitudes, self-esteem, and happiness perceived by the children, and a negative correlation with the children's depression. And, the happiness felt by the parents was found to affect the happiness of children by sequentially progressing through positive parenting attitudes, children's self-esteem and depression. Such results reflect how parents who perceive themselves to be happy tend to be warm, provide structure, and support the autonomy of their children. This also shows how such positive parenting attitudes encourage children to believe that they are valuable individuals and how this plays a role in reducing their sense of depression and enhancing their happiness.

  • This study aimed to investigate the social consequences of happiness. For this purpose, we examined the effect of happiness on the formation of adolescents' peer relationship. A total of 241 Korean junior high school students completed a happiness questionnaire consisting of subjective well-being, psychological well-being, self-esteem, and optimism at the beginning of the school year. Four months later, their popularity and social behaviors were measured using self-reports and peer-nomination measures. Happy male students were more likely to become nominated as a preferred friend by their peers at the end of the semester; happy females were evaluated by their peers as being more creative than others. Happy adolescents also viewed themselves as being more sociable, popular, and having more leadership than others. Overall, the findings imply that happiness also have positive social consequences in highly collectivist cultural settings, such as Korea.

Investigation of Factor about Influet to Treatment to Happiness Index among Dental Patients (치과병·의원에 내원한 환자들의 행복지수에 영향을 미치는 요인 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the self-rated peridontal health status of dental patients and the type of their treatment(implant, orthodontic treatment and general treatment) to the quality of life(happiness index), to investigate influential factors for oral health, and ultimately to provide some information on the development of oral health care programs geared toward boosting the happiness index. The subjects in this study were the patients who visited dental hospitals and clinics in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province. As for relationship between the field of treatment and the happiness index, the patients who received orthodontic treatment scored higher in both each itemand all the five items, and the patients who received implant treatment scored lower. Regarding links between self-rated periodontal health status and the happiness index, the patients who had no oral symptoms scored higher in both each item and all the five items, and the respondents whose self-rated health status and self-rated oral health status were both very good scored higher in the happiness index. The preparation of oral health programs that aim to improve the self-rated oral health of patients who visit dental hospitals or clinics is required.

  • The primary objectives of this study were to identify who is happier in workplace. To do this, this study proposed and analyzed a theoretical model consisting of demographic factors such as sex differences, age band, marital status, child quantity, religion, education level, position, job, income etc, psychological factors such as extroversion, neurosis, positive belief and happiness level. The major results of analysis reveal that first, both demographic factors and psychological factors have a positive effect on the happiness level of office-worker. Second, child quantity, neurosis and positive belief is an important factors in predicting office-worker's happiness. In conclusion, the implication of our research is to verify factors to promote the happiness level of office workers.
