  • According to recent embodied cognition approach, understanding of actions is not based on abstract symbolic process but based on mental simulation of sensory-motor information related to those actions. As supporting evidence, motor resonance effect is a facilitation/interference effect of motor response in terms of similarity between observed action and concurrent own action. In the current research, we investigated this effect in the situation to perceive a complex social action perception and how it would be modulated by perspectives of construals of the social action scene. For this purpose, we created three kinds of fighting action scenes of two people in terms of body actions of the subject(ie., hitting, stepping, biting), and described them in two perspectives; active and passive. During the experiment, subjects had to verify the congruency of the picture and the description first, and if they are congruent, they had to do two different actions in terms of color of following cues. In the first experiment, subjects' response time for stepping on a pedal and pressing a button were analyzed for measuring motor resonance effect for the foot movement. In the second experiment, voice response time with a microphone and button pressing time were analyzed for the mouth movement motor resonance effect. Results showed the facilitation of the foot movement(in Exp1), and the mouth movement(in Exp2) only when the action scene was described in active perspective. Our results indicate that the motor resonance effect can be occurred during perception of social actions in the real life situation, but it can be also modulated by the perspective of the mental construal of the action event.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy and complications of two oral sedative regimens, chloral hydrate (60mg/kg)/hydroxyzine(25mg) versus midazolam(1mg/kg)/meperidine(1mg/kg) for the sedation of pediatric dental patients. Fifteen patients(mean age 36.2months, range 24-47months), ASA Class I or II, who needed at least two restorative dental procedures were selected in this double-blind, randomized study. All subjects were randomly assigned to receive either chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine or midazolam/meperidine and 50% $N_2O/O_2$ was administered at each appointment. Behavior assessment(sleep, movement, crying, overall behavior) was made using Houpt Sedation Rating Scale and physiologic parameters(pulse rate, oxygen saturation) were monitored using pulse oximeter. The incidence of hypoxia($SpO_2$ 90% or less, at least 10s duration) and vomiting was recorded. Patients sedated with chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine showed significantly better overall behavior score than patients sedated with midazolam/meperidine. There was no clinically significant difference in the incidence of hypoxia and vomiting. It was concluded that oral administration of chloral hydrate/hydroxyzine is more effective than midazolam/meperidine for the sedation of pediatric dental patients.

  • To improve the sense of unity between game players and game world avatars, we propose a method to measure game player's physical status and manipulate game character appearances and behavior using the measurements. To measure the status, we implemented a hardware module that perceive the body temperature. We implemented a 3D horror game whose game space is a common subway space ordinarily encountered in daily life so that ordinary people can easily get used to the game environment. The experiments of applying the measurement data from the game player to the game world avatar shows that the player's physical status can be effectively utilized to improve the sense of reality in gameplay.

  • Path planning for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) is crucial in avoiding collisions with obstacles in complex environments that include both static and dynamic obstacles. Path planning algorithms like RRT and A* are effectively handle static obstacle avoidance but have limitations with increasing computational complexity in high-dimensional environments. Reinforcement learning-based algorithms can accommodate complex environments, but like traditional path planning algorithms, they struggle with training complexity and convergence in higher-dimensional environment. In this paper, we proposed a reinforcement learning model utilizing a cell decomposition algorithm. The proposed model reduces the complexity of the environment by decomposing the learning environment in detail, and improves the obstacle avoidance performance by establishing the valid action of the agent. This solves the exploration problem of reinforcement learning and improves the convergence of learning. Simulation results show that the proposed model improves learning speed and efficient path planning compared to reinforcement learning models in general environments.

  • This study is a theoretically based study that understands the midlife crisis from the perspective of Jung's Archetypes and the Collective Unconscious, explores psychological changes, and suggests methods that can be applied to social welfare practice. The midlife crisis is not simply a period of confusion, but is viewed as an important journey toward individualization and self-actualization. We seek to understand how Jung's archetypes appear in middle age and what meaning they have for the psychological changes that occur during adulthood. In addition, it explains the impact of the collective unconscious on an individual's experience and behavior during a midlife crisis, and provides theoretical basic research to social welfare practitioners and researchers studying midlife to help clients overcome the midlife crisis more positively. I want to do it. The purpose is to suggest that the integrated approach of Jungian psychology in social welfare practice and education can play a role as meaningful theoretical basic research in effectively supporting the midlife crisis

  • In this study, two commercial mating disruptors were compared in terms of disruption of Oriental fruit moth, Grapholita molesta, male orientation, in which a new dispenser type, $SPLAT^{(R)}$, was compared with a current dispenser type, $Isomate^{(R)}$-M ROSSO. For this assessment, the last three year field monitoring data were analyzed for the efficacy of Isomate type dispenser. Then two commercial dispensers were compared in different localities with sub-locality replications during identical monitoring period from mid February to late August. There appeared to be four adult population peaks, in which the overwintering population size was positively correlated with the following reproductive population sizes. Isomate type dispenser effectively suppressed G. molesta populations during all growing seasons with some annual variation in its efficacy. Between two dispensers, SPLAT type was much effective. The difference in their efficacy may be caused by the difference in composition of major pheromone component.

  • The release of hazardous waste materials into the environment poses serious risks in humans and ecosystems. The risk assessment of environmental pollutants including hazardous chemicals requires a comprehensive measurement of hazard and exposure of the chemicals that can be achieved by toxicity evaluation using a biological system such as biomarkers. In this report we have tried to develop a biomarker used to elucidate a molecular basis of, and to monitor abnormal behaviors caused by diazinon in Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) as a model organism. First, an attempt was made to clone tyrosine hydroxylase gene from Japanese medaka that would be a candidate for a biomarker for neuronal modulations and behaviors. For monitoring experiments at behavioral and molecular biological levels, the fish were treated under different sublethal conditions of diazinon and their behavioral responses were observed . In this study we have successfully cloned a partial TH gene from the medaka fish through PCR screening of an ovary cDNA library. DNA sequencing analysis revealed that the amplified fragment was 327 bp encoding 109 amino acids. Comparing the DNA sequence of medaka TH with other species, TH gene revealed the DNA sequence was completely identical to that of rat TH. In the RT-PCR, 330 Up of mRNA was consistently amplified in all the treated samples including control There were no significant differences in the TH expression level regardless of treating concentrations (1∼5,000 ppb) and time (0∼48 hr) The reason appeared to be that RT-PCR was not performed using through a quantitative analysis normalized against an actin gene expression. Organ or tissue - specific detection of TH activity and mRNA as biomarkers will be a useful monitoring tool for neurobehavioral changes in fish influenced by toxic chemicals. Furthermore, quantitative analysis of locomotive patterns and its correlation with the neurochemical and molecular data would be highly useful in measuring toxicity and hazard ofvarious environmental pollutants.
