  • Using bidding data collected from the World Bank's open database, this research performed a series of competitive analyses of the major countries that have participated in the Bank's engineering consulting services contracts in Vietnam. The goal of the analysis was to evaluate the performance of Korean engineering firms to date, and provide strategic recommendations for future projects. Results showed that Korean firms had a high bid acceptance rate, comparable to major developed countries. The success was attributed to the high technical scores in the selection process. Comparatively, financial scores were not competitive and inferior to developing countries such as China and India. Results of a 'Skitmore' analysis revealed that Korea was competitive in medium size projects and were situated between developed and developing countries. Korea thus needs to increase participation in basic and detailed design services, 2) improve labor costs through 'localization' and latest technologies, and 3) and venture into larger sized projects.

  • While major alliance container carriers in the post-corona era are enjoying the largest boom in history with their fleet reduction strategy, shippers companies are in a state of deteriorating import and export price competitiveness due to increased logistics costs, and forwarders who act for shipping companies' logistics services are also experiencing the burden of rising freight rates It is in a state of overheated competition and worsening profits for attracting shippers. For this purpose, research data, literature studies, statistical data and data from overseas specialized networks were used as prior research. Online surveys and telephone interviews were conducted, and as a result, four areas of cold chain (including perishable cargo), project logistics, UN procurement logistics, and dangerous goods logistics, which were found to be particularly in high demand, were analyzed to suggest entry strategies.

  • All countries are fostering and developing RFID/USN Technology as a key growth industry due to not only the possibility of application to all industries but the expected profits through it. However, in case of RFID/USN domestic companies, as most of them are small or medium sized, with a weakness of technology and services, promotion policy and strategies are necessary to be established. In this study, we try to contribute to establishing the Policy for the RFID/USN industry promotion by analyzing the world companies which lead RFID/USN and by presenting the strategies which is optimized for overseas expansion and which can be applicable to the industry.

  • Recently the environment in geospatial information has conversed into the plaform. The platform based geospatial information contributes to save time and cost as well as maintain the consistency and stability in spatial data infrastructure. The Republic of Korea is now constructing and operating the spatial open platform called as the V-World(Virtual World), and searching for the possibility of its abroad export. The purpose of this study is to elicit the abroad export strategy by country of spatial open platform by comparing the cases of developing country, the Kingdom of Cambodia and newly developed country, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, The Kingdom of Cambodia depends on foreign aids to develop the spatial data infrastructure and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is inducing an advanced technology and high human power from overseas based on abundant oil money. This study establishes the abroad export strategy based on two country models such as Cambodia and Abu Dhabi by considering the characteristics in geospatial information, and suggests the ways of abroad export and the methods on fund raising for spatial open platform.

  • An expansion into the global market increasingly becomes a buzz world among Construction Management(CM) firms in Korea. The objective of this study is to identify potential obstacles and investigate their nature and implications to CM firms in Korea. The study identified 25 obstacles under 5 categories. Base on a questionnaire survey and interviews with CM experts who have global CM projects experience, the study discusses that while there exist various types of obstacles, a more attention needs to be paid for a small number of major obstacles to minimine risks in overseas CM projects. It also suggests that improving pre-construction management competency through securing CM experts should be listed as a top agenda for Korean CM firms.

  • Dongguan City of Guangdong province, one of the core areas of the Pearl River Delta, has also pursued economic development through the geographical advantage close to Hong Kong. In the early 1980s, small and medium-sized multinational corporations related to home appliances industry from Hong Kong invested to the Dongguan area and set up a production factory. In the mid-1990s, as Taiwanese PC manufacturers invested, local industrial clusters have developed in Dongguan with core of the IT, PC components and electronic industries. The case of the IT industrial cluster in Dongguan is a typical example of the development of Chinese manufacturing industry after the reform of China. This paper focused on the coupling strategy case of Dongguan City industrial cluster in Guangdong province, and theoretically compared the endogenous growth factor analysis(NMID) of regional industrial development with the regional differentiation of industry based on external linkage with global production network(GPN).

  • As the Asian region becomes strategically important in the international construction market, competition among construction firms has been more intense. While existing literature on the Asian construction market have mainly focused on qualitative approaches to market entry strategies and risk assessment, quantitative research to explain the dynamic competitive structure of the market has been rarely conducted. To address this issue, this study analyzes the structure of contract performance in the Asian region based on the data from 3,996 projects awarded to Korean construction firms from 2009 to 2017. In addition, this study applies a mathematical model using both static (market concentration) and dynamic (market mobility and instability) analyses. Consequently, the static analysis indicates that market concentration led by top-four firms tends to be increased, and on the dynamic aspect, the market position of Korean construction firms is recently weakened and fluctuated in most of the Asian regions and the construction sectors. The methodology and result of this paper would be meaningful not only to understand the underlying structure of industry-level performance but also to provide a useful reference for establishing competitive strategies towards the Asian market.
