A Study on the Protocol Design and Implementation for an Underwater Acoustic Multi-channel Digital Communication (수중 초음파 디지탈 이동통신을 위한 프로토콜 설계 및 구현에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, due to the increasing interests in deep sea development, all possible efforts to the development of underwater unmanned working vehicles such as AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) or underwater robot are exerted. This paper proposes a new efficient acoustic-based underwater image data communication system, which ensures a certain level of maximum throughput regardless of the propagation delay of ultrasonic and allowsfast data transmission through the multiple ultrasonic communication channel. Proposed system consists of an acoustic transducer which operates at 136kHz center frequency and it's 10kHz bandwidth, pre-amplifier, $\pi/4 QPSK$(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation/demodu-lation method, image compressing method using JPEG technique and modified Stop & Wait protocol. The experimental result of the system make it possible to transfer the underwater image as a high throughput at the basin test. The results of test are also verified which allows to desirable transmission performance compared with the existing developed system and the possibility to put the practical use of survey and investigation in the water.

  • In the present age, a vehicle works important part in our lives and economical domain that transport people, freights, and everything. And both of its number and value are increasing more and more. But user's convenience, control system could not be archived improvement than technological success. In this paper, we suggest some kinds of administrative agendas; simplifying executive processes, designing vehicle information system using by RFID which includes Ubiquitous skill and optical communication network. Especially, this paper suggests public vehicle control model which ran simplify every executive processes of vehicle's life in the newest method. There are many kinds of RFID applicative products about transportation. And a dual invest should be interrupted for economical purpose. So we also proposes some way for problems of these types.

  • Even after the introduction of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), many maritime accidents occur. A method of transmitting a rescue signal when a person falls into the water from a ship is currently being researched and developed in various ways, but no products have been developed that use frequencies allocated for maritime mobile service. Accordingly, in this study, we designed and produced a man-over-board (MOB) device by applying Group B AMRD technologies, which were adopted through the latest revision of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). In addition, a receiver and user interface were built to verify the performance of the transmitter, and we confirmed that it can be used in conjunction with existing electronic charts. This MOB device satisfies the general and technical requirements of Group B AMRD using AIS technology and uses integrated components for miniaturization for easy portability in a maritime environment. We expect that it will achieve excellent AIS communication and be essential in rapid response and safety in emergency scenarios.

  • In this paper, as one of the fusion of IT and ocean technology, we propose a scheme to support NEMO in a harbor area network to provide network mobility for passengers, distribution as well as give a connection to an MN from an outside network. In a harbor area under PMIPv6 with NEMO support, a problem could be occurred due to overlapping HA/LMA tunnels and duplicate BCE fields. To Solve these problems, we consider the existing mobility option and add an optional field in the PBU message, which can notify the LMA and HA for either an initial connection or handover request. This procedure can reduce some overlapped steps of binding procedure. Hence, our proposed scheme could reduce an amount of delay and save the processing resource in the harbor area under PMIPv6 with NEMO support.

  • Lost fishing gears become a major cause of marine pollution, and many policy and technical efforts have been conducted for that. For efficient retrieving lost fishing gears in underwater, It is important to know the current position. Using GPS in the sub-sea environment is impossible and localization requires the use of special systems, and mobility due to water currents for underwater localization also has to be considered. In this paper, described with respect to the system for a self-generated location informations without using an external signal, such as a GPS and Sonar and storing them. Using the characteristics of the geomagnetic and INS principle, proposed informations and a way for estimating self position during movement. Embedded based system suggested and implemented in this study is tested for validating it's functionality.

  • DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) and RTK(Real time Kinematic) are in one of today's most widely used surveying techniques. However surveying with these techniques is restricted by the distance between reference and rover station, and it is difficult to process data in realtime by their own organizational limitation in precise measurement of positioning. To meet these new demands, in this paper, new DGPS and RTK correction data services through the Internet and PSTN(Public Switched Telephony Network) have been proposed. For this purpose, a DGPS and RTK error correction data transmission system is implemented for long-distance using the Internet and PSTN which allows a mobile user at which the rover receiver is located to receive the correction data from the reference in realtime, and analyzed and compared with DGPS and RTK performances by experiments through the Internet and PSTN for the distance and the time.

  • The visual motivation between AP devices is NTP-based visual motivation through the access of the Internet through the internal wired LAN, but this has several seconds of visual difference in hundreds of milliseconds (msec) depending on the network. The frame for the output of the video will vary depending on the application, but usually 24 (image) frames are output to the screen in one second. Therefore, the visual synchronization between peripheral devices can be performed through the adjacent moving camera device, not the wired method. The programming method of generating API for synchronization command when creating an application for visual synchronization and delivering it to AP through MAC may differ from the time in synchronization command according to the environment of the operating system at the transmission side and the situation of the buffer queue of the MAC. Therefore, as a method to solve this problem, the renewal of visual information in the device driver terminal controlling MAC can be much more effective.

Development of Ocean Data Buoy and Real-Time Monitoring Technology (종합관측부이 개발 및 실시간 관측기술)

  • It is desired to use a domestically manufactured ocean data buoy for the long-term operational ocean monitoring. The ocean data buoy manufacturing technology was introduced through the research cooperation with the Qingkong University of Taiwan. The introduced ocean data buoy system was further expanded and improved for more efficient application for the marine environmental monitoring in Korea. The size of the ocean data buoy is 2.5 m in diameter, which is smaller compared to the NOAA's 3.0 m discus buoy to allow easy land transportation and ocean deployment as well. From the dynamic response test of the buoy carried out numerically, it was shown that the measurement of waves with period greater than 4 seconds is acceptable. The measurement and control system of the data buoy were improved to increase the number of measuring parameters, to reduce power consumption and to enhance better data analysis and management. Each component of the improved data buoy system was described in detail in this paper. Water quality sensors of water temperature, salinity, DO, pH and turbidity were added to the system in addition to the marine meteorological sensors of wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity, air pressure and wave. Inmarsat satellite communication system is used for the real-time data telemetry from the buoy deployed offshore. A field performance test of the improved and domestically manufactured buoy was carried out for a month at the open sea off Pohang together with DatawelI's Wave-rider buoy to compare the wave data. The results of the test were satisfactory.

  • In this paper a design of $\pi$/4-DQPSK baseband receiver for the exchange of digital data and e-mail between shore and ship stations and/or among ship stations in the maritime mobile service VHF channels is described. Due to the permitted relatively big frequency instability of local oscillators at the transmitter and the receiver of maritime communication system, the designed baseband receiver should have the capabilities of correct estimation and compensation of the synchronization parameters, such as symbol timing and frequency offset, from the received signal which might include relatively big frequency error. Simulated BER results show that the designed baseband receiver works less than 0.5dB loss under AWGN channel when the normalized frequency offset of the received signal is more then 20%.

  • Recently, many attempts to run numerical ocean models in cloud computing environments have been tried actively. A cloud computing environment can be an effective means to implement numerical ocean models requiring a large-scale resource or quickly preparing modeling environment for global or large-scale grids. Many commercial and private cloud computing systems provide technologies such as virtualization, high-performance CPUs and instances, ether-net based high-performance-networking, and remote direct memory access for High Performance Computing (HPC). These new features facilitate ocean modeling experimentation on commercial cloud computing systems. Many scientists and engineers expect cloud computing to become mainstream in the near future. Analysis of the performance and features of commercial cloud services for numerical modeling is essential in order to select appropriate systems as this can help to minimize execution time and the amount of resources utilized. The effect of cache memory is large in the processing structure of the ocean numerical model, which processes input/output of data in a multidimensional array structure, and the speed of the network is important due to the communication characteristics through which a large amount of data moves. In this study, the performance of the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS), the High Performance Linpack (HPL) benchmarking software package, and STREAM, the memory benchmark were evaluated and compared on commercial cloud systems to provide information for the transition of other ocean models into cloud computing. Through analysis of actual performance data and configuration settings obtained from virtualization-based commercial clouds, we evaluated the efficiency of the computer resources for the various model grid sizes in the virtualization-based cloud systems. We found that cache hierarchy and capacity are crucial in the performance of ROMS using huge memory. The memory latency time is also important in the performance. Increasing the number of cores to reduce the running time for numerical modeling is more effective with large grid sizes than with small grid sizes. Our analysis results will be helpful as a reference for constructing the best computing system in the cloud to minimize time and cost for numerical ocean modeling.
