  • To analyze a multibody system, this paper proposes an implicit numerical integration method for joint coordinates subsystem synthesis method. To verify the proposed method, a multibody model for an unmanned robot vehicle, which consists of six identical independent suspension systems, is developed. The symbolic method is applied to compute the system Jacobian matrix for the implicit integration method. The proposed method is also verified by performing rough terrain run-over simulation in comparison with the conventional implicit integration method. In addition, to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method, the CPU time obtained by using this method is compared with that obtained by using the conventional implicit method.

  • A powerful and efficient method for finding approximate solutions to initial-boundary-value problems in the transient coupled thermoelasticity is formulated in time domain using the finite element technique with time-marching strategy. The final system equations can be derived by the Guritin's variational principle using the definition of convolution integral. But, the finite element formulation for the equations of motion is modified by differentiating in time. Numerical results to some test problems are compared with analytical and other sophisticated approximate solutions. Stable responces are observed in all the given examples irrespective of incremental time steps and mesh shapes. In addition, it is shown that good numerical results are obtained even in coarser mesh or larger time step comparing to other numerical methods.

  • In this paper, the dynamic stress intensity factors of fracture mechanics are numerically computed in time domain using the FEM. For which the finite element formulations are derived applying the Galerkin method to the equations of motion in convolution integral as has been presented in the previous paper. To assure the strain fields of r$^{-1}$ 2/ singularity near the crack tip, the triangular quarter-point singular elements are imbedded in the finite element mesh discretized by the isoparametric quadratic quadrilateral elements. Two-dimensional problems of the elastodynamic fracture mechanics under the impact load are solved and compared with the existing numerical and analytical solutions, being shown that numerical results of good accuracy are obtained by the presented method.

  • In this paper, the finite element equations for the transient linear viscoelastic stress analysis are presented in time domain, whose variational formulation is derived by using the Galerkin's method based on the equations of motion in time integral. Since the inertia terms are not included in the variational formulation, the time integration schemes such as the Newmark's method widely used in the classical dynamic analysis based on the equations of motion in time differential are not required in the development of that formulation, resulting in a computationally simple and stable numerical algorithm. The viscoelastic material is assumed to behave as a standard linear solid in shear and an elastic solid in dilatation. To show the validity of the presented method, two numerical examples are solved nuder plane strain and plane stress conditions and good results are obtained.

  • An analytical study on the behavior of composite beams, which are composed of cold-formed profiled steel sheeting and normal strength concrete, is described. An analytical method to trace the nonlinear behavior of a composite beam is developed to include the nonlinear material properties of steel sheeting, reinforcing steel bar and concrete. A simple Power Model has also been proposed for the nonlinear moment-curvature relation of the composite beam. The model, which has been originally used to predict the flexural capacity of the beam to column connections, is adapted to the composite beams. The load-deflection behavior of the beams has been simulated by the step-by-step numerical integration using the moment-curvature relation obtained by the Power Model. The results have been compared with test results.

  • In spite of the global importance of primary production of phytoplankton, some primary production data in Korean coastal waters still need to be better processed. The daily rates of water column primary production is generally estimated by integrating the primary production per unit volume over time and depth, but efforts for time integration algorithm have been conducted insufficiently. In this study a mathematical equation evaluating daily primary production integrated over time of a day is proposed and the effectiveness of the model is tested on Saemangeum Lake. The daily primary productions computed with the proposed equation were nearly the same with the results numerically integrated by substituting solar irradiance data. It was suggested that better estimation of primary production would be obtained by using monthly or weekly means of solar irradiance rather than more variable daily data. Because of the vertically heterogenous distribution of phytoplankton, it's hard to integrate the equation over depth to give the daily rates of primary production per unit area of water surface. However, the problem would be solved if, after the vertical distribution of phytoplankton was classified into several patterns and reduced to mathematical formula, every composite function of time integrated equation and chlorophyll distribution equation was integrated successfully.

The network elements are only R's, C's and OA's, and the network configuration are well suited for construction using thin-film RC networks and integrated cil'suit operational amplifiers. Poles and transmission zeros can be adjusted independently to each other and are qu;te insensitive to element variations.

  • A mathematical model for computing the bed friction of combined wave-current flow has been developed based on the Prandtl's mixing length theory. Using various approximate expressions, solutions are obtained explicitly. The computational results are compared and found in reasonable agreements with the data of field measurements.
