Elliptic curves are a common theme among various fields of mathematics, such as number theory, algebraic geometry, complex analysis, cryptography, and mathematical physics. In the history of elliptic curves, we can find number theoretic problems on the one hand, and complex function theoretic ones on the other. The elliptic curve theory is a synthesis of those two indeed. As an overview of the history of elliptic curves, we survey the Diophantine equations of 3rd degree and the congruent number problem as some of number theoretic trails of elliptic curves. We discuss elliptic integrals and elliptic functions, from which we get a glimpse of idea where the name 'elliptic curve' came from. We explain how the solution of Diophantine equations of 3rd degree and elliptic functions are related. Finally we outline the BSD conjecture, one of the 7 millennium problems proposed by the Clay Math Institute, as an important problem concerning elliptic curves.

In this paper, we analyze the symbol error rate (SER) performance of maximum likelihood (ML) joint detection in downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) systems by deriving a tight union bound on the symbol error rate (SER). The union bound for ML joint detection is utilized to demonstrate the performance of MIMO MC-CDMA systems quantitatively in multiuser and frequency selective Rayleigh fading environments. An analysis of the diversity order of the systems shows the effects of multiple users, spread subcarriers, and multiple antennas on the ML joint detection performance. Furthermore, the analysis shows that MIMO MC-CDMA systems without full loading can achieve more diversify than MIMO orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems.

This article focused the meaning of Pythagoras' and Euclid's proof about the Pythagorean theorem in a historical and mathematical perspective. Pythagoras' proof using similarity is based on the arithmetic assumption about commensurability. However, Euclid proved the Pythagorean theorem again only using the concept of dissection-rearrangement that is purely geometric so that it does not need commensurability. Pythagoras' and Euclid's different approaches to geometry have to do with Birkhoff's axiom system and Hilbert's axiom system in the school geometry Birkhoff proposed the new axioms for plane geometry accepting real number that is strictly defined. Thus Birkhoff's metrical approach can be defined as a Pythagorean approach that developed geometry based on number. On the other hand, Hilbert succeeded Euclid who had pursued pure geometry that did not depend on number. The difference between the proof using similarity and dissection-rearrangement is related to the unsolved problem in the geometry curriculum that is conflict of Euclid's conventional synthetical approach and modern mathematical approach to geometry.

서울특별시회는 지난 4월 13일 서울시 도시기반시설본부와 합동으로 (주)동보엔지니어링이 시공 중인 '마포석유비축기지 재생 및 공원조성 기계설비공사' 현장을 방문하여 안전 및 품질점검을 실시했다. 이날 품질점검에는 발주처인 서울시 도시기반시설본부 관계자를 비롯하여 감리단장, 기계감리 등이 참석하여 시공현황을 체크했다. 서울시회 김수철 상임부회장은 (주)동보엔지니어링 정광일 대표와 김원근 현장소장에게 "다른 현장보다도 더욱 우수한 공사품질과 체계적인 현장관리, 타 공중간의 소통에 의한 긴밀한 업무협조로 준공까지 공사 진행에 차질이 없도록 솔선수범하여 우수 시공사례 현장이 될 수 있도록 심혈을 기울여 달라"고 부탁했다.

사물인터넷(IoT, Internet of Things)의 발전과 스마트 기기의 보급으로 개인정보 등과 같은 중요한 정보를 빠르고 안전하게 암호화 및 전송할 필요가 생겼다. 사물인터넷과 같이 제한된 환경에서 암호화를 할 수 있도록 설계된 암호기술을 경량 암호기술이라 한다. 본 논문에서는 국제표준화기구/국제전기표준화위원회 합동기술위원회 1 연구그룹 27 작업그룹 2(ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27 WG2)에서 진행되고 있는 경량 암호기술의 표준화 동향을 중심으로 우리나라의 경량 암호기술과 함께 고찰하고자 한다.

농림축산식품부는 지난 11월 11일 "무허가 축사 개선 세부실시요령"을 지방자치단체에 전달하고, 이에 대한 교육을 순차적으로 실시하기로 했다. 농림축산식품부, 국토교통부, 환경부가 합동으로 만든 "무허가 축사 개선 세부실시요령"에는 올해 3월 25일에 개정된 "가축분뇨법 시행령 및 시행규칙"을 보완하는 내용이 담겼다. 농림축산식품부는 2018년 3월까지 무허가 축사를 적법화 할 계획이다. 이번 호에서는 무허가 축사 개선 세부실시요령 중 낙농육우 부문에 해당되는 내용을 발췌했다. 목장마다 무허가 축사 보유 실태가 다른 만큼 꼼꼼히 살펴보고 도움을 받는 것이 좋겠다. 보다 자세한 사항은 농림축산식품부나 시군 축산담당과에 문의하면 안내받을 수 있다.

우리협회에서는 고속도로상에서 타이어 정비불량으로 인한 교통사고를 예방하고 올바른 사용방법을 홍보하고자 고속도로 휴게소에서 업계와 합동으로 타이어 안전사용검사 및 서비스 행사를 매년 실시하고 있다 본고에서는 금년 7월 검사까지의 추이를 중심으로, 일본의 타이어 안전사용 실태와 비교할 수 있도록 일본 자동차 타이어 공업협회(Japan Automobile Tire Manufacturers Association)의 05년도 안전검사 결과 수치를 삽입하였다. 참고로 JATMA의 안전검사는 고속도로뿐만 아니라 일반도로에서도 이루어지며 검사대상에서도 화물차를 포함하지만 ,본고에서는 고속도로에서의 승용차 대상의 결과치 만을 발췌하였다. 아울러, 올해 상반기에 실시한 운전자의 타이어 안전관리에 관한 설문조사 결과를 요약, 정리하였다.

편차도표는 진북, 자북, 도북의 관계를 지도 하부에 그림으로 표시한 난외주기를 말한다. 우리가 사용하고 있는 현재의 기본도는 1966년 한화합동항공사진측량사업을 바탕으로 1974년까지 남한 전지역에 대하여 1:25,000 기본도를 완성하고, 이를 축소 편집하여 1:50,000 지도를 작성한 것이다. 이와 더불어, 1975년부터 지자기측량을 실시하여 1980년을 기준으로 한 자편각을 기본도에 표시하였다. 그러나, 이렇게 작성된 편각도표는 우리나라의 기본도에 적용된 투영좌표계와는 맞지 않는 결과를 나타내고 있다. 이에 대한 연구를 수행하여 정상적인 편차도표가 작성될 수 있는 안을 제시하였다.
