  • In this study, optimal parameters of diffusion-analogy GIUH were calculated by separating channel and hillslope from drainage structures in the basin. Parameters of the model were composed of channel and hillslope, each velocity($u_c$, $u_h$) and diffusion coefficient($D_c$, $D_h$). Tanbu subwatershed in Bocheong river basin as a target basin was classified as 4th rivers by Strahler's ordering scheme. The optimization technique was applied to the SCE-UA, the estimated optimal parameters are as follows. $u_c$ : 0.589 m/s, $u_h$ : 0.021 m/s, $D_c$ : $34.469m^2/s$, $D_h$ : $0.1333m^2/s$. As a verification for the estimated parameters, the error of average peak flow was about 11 % and the error of peaktime was 0.3 hr. By examining the variability of parameters, the channel diffusion coefficient didn't have significant effect on hydrological response function. by considering these results, the model is expected to be simplified in the future.

  • Debris flows are rapidly flowing masses of water mixed with soil and gravel from landslides which are caused by typhoons or rainstorms. The combination of Korea’s mountain dominated topography (70%) and seasonal heavy rains and typhoons causes landslides and large-scale debris flows from June to August. These phenomena often cause property damage and casualties that amount up to 20% of total annual disaster fatalities. The key point to predicting debris flow is to understand its movement mechanism, erosion, and deposition. In order to achieve a more accurate estimation of debris flow path and damage, this study incorporates quantitative analysis of high resolution LiDAR DEM (GSD 10cm) to delineate geomorphic and topographic changes induced by Jinbu real scale debris flow test.

  • This study analyzed the issues and its usefulness of drawing small-scale digital map by using the large-scale digital map which was producted with high-resolution digital aerial photograph which are commonly photographed in recent years. To this end, correlation analysis of the feature categories on the digital map was conducted, and this map was processed by inputting data, organizing, deleting, editing, and supervising feature categories according to the generalization process. As a result, 18 unnecessary feature codes were deleted, and the accuracy of 1/5,000 for the digital map was met. Although the size of the data and the number of feature categories increased, this was proven to be shown due to the excellent description of the digital aerial photograph. Accordingly, it was shown that drawing a small-scale digital map with the large-scale digital map by digital aerial photograph provided excellent description and high-quality information for digital map.

  • This research is undertook as a preliminary study for cultural and ecological environments of Daegu city which is required to improve urban image as the host city of 2011 World Championship in Athletics. The main findings of this research are as follows: Firstly, it is necessary to correct some errors in the natural scenery, such as Shincheon and Ibam which are known as important natural scenery of Daegu city. and also necessary to correct some errors in the name of places. Secondly, according to the old literature, it is known that there are two famous rocks in Daegu. Ibam, one of the two, is known as already disappeared. However, Hwaam, the other one, has been recently revealed as substantial. Therefore, the city needs to preserve the natural inheritance. In this sense, the city needs to consider to utilize natural scenery as cultural eco-tourism resources. Lastly, some part of landforms are related to culture and history. Thus, I proposes to name them as 'cultural landforms'.

  • We have studied the effect of speed of deposited atom on morphology evolution during Glancing Angle Deposition (GLAD). Using Kinetic Monte Carlo simulation that incorporate molecular dynamics simulations, we have shown that the rough surface morphology became smoother as the speed of deposited atom is increased. The growth exponent ${\beta}$ change from 0.97 to 0.67 as the speed increase from ${\upsilon}_0$ to $10{\upsilon}_0$ in the case of GLAD. We also examined the effect of speed of deposited atom for the case of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) simulation. Compared to GLAD, the variation in scaling exponent ${\beta}$ is small but the speed of deposited atom also have considerable effect on growth morpholgy in the case of CVD.

  • B. falcatum plants were classified into six groups from group I to grop VI by the complete linkage cluster method depending on 8 charactenstics such as plant height. number of nodes, number of branches, position of the first branching node root diameter, root length, number of lateral root, dry weight of root. These groups are divided into two plants types, such as multi-branching and non multi-branching type by the number of branches, group II and group VI were the multi-branching types and the other groups were nonmulti-branching ones, Dry weight of root had highly positive correlation with the number of branches and negative correlation with the position of first branching nodes.

  • This study proposed the possibility of GIS to analyze stream physiographic characteristics of river basin which is important control factor in complex water management. Based on five 1:25,000 topographic maps which cover Yengchon Dam area locates upper area of Kumho River, this study analyzed the characteristics using Arc/Info(UNIX) GIS. Comparing its results and those from the existing method using digital planimeter, it could conclude as follows; First, as the results of the analysis of hypsometric curve of Yeungchon Dam area, it has the topographic characteristics of youth and maturity. And the landform of Yengchon Dam area has developed with regularity when Horton's three laws on the morphology of stream is applied. Second, the possibility of applying GIS to data management and utilization is sufficient even if it requires long time to construct topographic attribute data. Finally, a further research is needed on watershed direction with landform for the purpose of analyzing water source management and topographic property effectively.

  • The consistent use of appropriate names for the undersea features is an essential element of effective communication among ocean scientists. The correct use of names on bathymetric and nautical charts provide benefits to national and international communities. Also it is expected that naming of the marine geographical features within the territorial waters and EEZ contributes to secure the territorial waters and preserve the various marine resources. This paper will seek to addresses a variety of activities where geographic names issues for undersea features arises. For the purpose of this paper, the attention will be given upon 1) the general history of activities on naming undersea features in Korea; 2) development of the guideline for standardization of marine geographical names; 3) geomorphological characteristics of undersea features in East Sea; and 4) future plan to conduct a systematic analysis for naming marine geographical features in Korea.

  • Ths study was carried out to understand the geo-topographical characteristics of the landslide area (1.5 ha) in Maeri, Sangdong-myeon, Gimhaesi, Gyeongsangnam-do. The bedrock of the landslide area was diollites and the area in and around the upper slope with the scattered talus was composed of Masanam originated from Igneous rocks. The landslide occurred in 19th of April, 2004 and the amount of rainfall for 3 days before the landslide was 74mm. The landslide by land creeping in this area was mainly attributed to geo-topographical characteristics such as well developed colluvial and/or weathered soils, and land cutting in lower slope, although the landslide could be affected by the rainfall. The type of the landslide can be classified into the land creeping by concave colluvial soils.

  • Management of geo-workflow's changes is one of growing issues and requires more advanced ways and methods to deal with heterogeneous modifications and interactions of process, activity and event over time. A few dominant workflow models have coped with these subjects. There is, however, little consensus for explanation of six dimensions with regard to actor, activity, space, time, reason and effect. This study begins with examining environments of six dimensions and the Hexad model is proposed to elucidate the causes and results of a wide variety of geo-processes and activities. In this paper, we will introduce Hexad Object Activity Model making it possible to interpret manifest motivations, conditions and actions. Full descriptions of six dimensions are often useful for applying to the handling of diverse activities particularly requiring to clarify actor's goal and role at a specific time and space.
