  • This review gives an information on the oxygen isotopic composition of car-bonate and utility of paleotemperature equations to reconstruct the paleoenvironment in the late Quaternary paleoclimatic studies. The introduc-tion of various paleotemperature equations is described with respect to the de-velopment and usefulness. In addition the calculation of paleotemperature in the paleoceanographic and paleoclimatic research is constrained to provide more precise and correct approach in the interpretation of paleotemperature.

  • The purpose of this study was to review today's development trends of library bibliographic instruction through historical assessment of U.S. university library bibliographic instruction development pattern. And the results of this study may be used in implementing the university library bibliographic instruction program in Korea. The major conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: . The bibliographic instruction had been affected by changing trend of higher education. . Early leaders had been understanding of higher education and were active in the library organization. . Related books and articles were much published continuously. . Library professional organizations supported and assisted these effort. . Received financial aid from the government and non-profit organization. . Effective educational techniques were developed. . Implemented computer-aided education together with audio-visual technique.

  • Abstracts and papers written in Korean presented in the 26th meeting of the Korea Quaternary Association held at Kongju University in November, 1999 are reviewed with an attention to such as writing well in Korean. Paragraphs and sentences of manuscripts are dotted with words and expressions of foreign languages such as Japanese, Chinese, English, and very long sentences. Undesirable expressions include also contradictory meanings, difficult expressions using Chinese characters, and incorrect sentences and wordings, and etc. Some recommendations for good manuscripts written in Korean are suggested. They include reading of science books for general readers and drilling for writing good manuscripts in Korean. Writing manuscripts in ample time, discussions with colleagues, and open-minded mentality of authors to accept critics are included in the drilling for writing good manuscripts. Editorial board should also check the manuscripts before printing.

  • The deep cored sediments of the beach spit deposit in the inlet of the Songji lagoon(lake) have been studied in terms of the late Quarternary stratigraphy and relationship of the Holocene sea-level curve. Furthermore, the total content of heavy mineral sands from the established stratigraphic units(Unit I, II and III) varies due to the changes of depositional environments from continental to marine condition.

  • The mammalian fossil remains of the Quaternary have been the crucial subjects for the archaeologist since long time. Because these materials have been used as a guide to environment and they help us to reconstruct a picture of past human subsistence concerning the hunting, dismembering and bone tools. The mammalians have distinctive characteristics and biotopes in order to adapt to environment change and modify even forms and number of bones. In this paper, we examine bone structures and numbers of several mammalians discovered in Paleolithic site during the Quaternary. We hope that this work could be attribute to more information about the relationship between Paleolithic men and the mammalians.

  • Ammonium dinitramide (ADN) Low toxicity monopropellant based 1N class thruster and test equipment were developed. Compared with the hydrazine which used in existing satellite thruster, ADN is easy to handle and has excellent physical characteristics such as density and specific impulse. Due to these characteristics, ADN is attracting attention as an eco-friendly propellant. In this paper, 1N class thruster and thrust measurement system was designed for performance testing of ADN monopropellant. The composition of the propellant for the design and experiment was set at 11.2: 25.4: 63.4 for each of Methanol: $H_2O$: ADN.

  • This paper has identified the Quaternary Environmental research trend of the Korea that has become the center of physical geographers and analyzed its performance by topic. As a result, we could see that most studies are accepted as research topics of restoring topography-climate-vegetation-sea level-soil environment during 'Last Interglacial ~Holocene' targeting the Korean Peninsula and the surrounded area. However, the situation is that it is difficult to restore the Quaternary Environment of the Korea in general only with their study performance. In the future, I hope the Quaternary Environmental research of the Korea would play more leading role than the researchers of other field by selecting more wide ranged and in-depth study topics in terms of the Quaternary Environmental research to furthermore introduce a new analytic technique.

  • The Pohang Light Source (PLS) of Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), which was constructed in 1994, is a 3rd generation synchrotron light source user facility. It consists of 2.5 GeV linear accelerator and a storage ring with circumference of 280 m. Presently, 27 beamlines around the storage ring are in operation providing synchrotron radiations to users. In addition, PAL has a construction project of the 4th generation light source. In this paper, the operation status of the PLS is described and the prospect of the 4th generation light source is reviewed.
