  • In this study a series of tests (bench scale test) are carried out for increasing the strength of clayey soil by EK-Injection method. In addition, the effects of strength increase in the treated sample are measured by operating the vane shear test device during 25 days at 5 days intervals in order to estimate the effect of ground improvement caused by diffusion. Also, the effects of strength increase in the treated sample are measured by operating the vane shear test device to estimate the effect by treatment durations (5, 10, 15, 20, 25). The test results show that the strength increase was developed approximately 2 to 7 times in comparison to initial shear strength, and outstanding strenfth increase was created as much as 7 times while injecting the sodium silicate and phosphoric acid in anolyte and catholyte. In addition, the measured shear strength with the influence of diffusion and reduction of water-content had a tendency to converge in constant value in proportion to elapsed time. As a result of this study, strength increment developed by the influence of EK-Injection and diffusion rather than the reduction of water-content was 1000% high on average. In case of changes of treatment duration, strength increment developed by the influence of treatment durations rather than the reduction of water-content was 3 to 4 times high on average.

  • The DNA topoismerase I inhibitor $\beta$-lapachone, the product of a tree from South America, is known to exhibit various biological properties, however the mechanisms of which are poorly understood. In the present report, we investigated the effects of $\beta$-lapachone on the growth of human prostate carcinoma DU-145 cells. Upon treatment with $\beta$-lapachone, a concentration-dependent inhibition of cell viability was observed and cells developed many of the hallmark features of apoptosis, including condensation of chromatin and DNA fragmentation. Flow cytometry analysis confirmed that $\beta$-lapachone increased populations of apoptotic-sub Gl phase. In addition, proteolytic cleavages of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and $\beta$-catenin protein were observed after treatment of $\beta$-lapachone. These apoptotic effects of $\beta$-lapachone in DU-145 cells were associated with marked induction of Bax protein, however the levels of Bcl-2 expression were decreased in a dose-dependent manner.

  • This study is conducted to determine the potential of zerovalent iron (ZVI), pyrolusite and birnessite to remediate water contaminated with chlorothalonil. The degradation rate of chlorothalonil by treatment of ZVI, pyrolusite and birnessite was much higher in low condition of pH. Mixing an aqueous solution of chlorothalonil with 1.0% (w/v) ZVI, pyrolusite and birnessite resulted in 4.7, 13.46 and 21.38 hours degradation half-life of chlorothalonil, respectively. Dechlorination number of chlorothalonil by treaonent of ZVI, pyrolusite and birnessite exhibited 2.85, 1.12 and 1.09, respectively. Degradation products of chlorothalonil by teartment of pyrolusite and birnessite were confirmed as trichloro-1,3-dicyanobenzene and dichloro-1,3-dicyanobenzene which were dechlorinated one and two chlorine atoms from parent chlorothalonil by GC-mass. Degradation products of chlorothalonil by ZVI were identified not only as those by pyrolusite and birnessite but as further reduced chloro-1,3-dicyanobenzene and chlorocyanobenzene.

  • Poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)/sulfur-siccinic acid(SSA) membrane performances have been studied for the vapor permeation separation of methyl tort-butyl ether(MTBE)/methanol mixtures with varying operation temperatures, amount of cross-linking agents, and feed compositions. 1'here are two factors, the membrane network and the hydrogen bonding, in the swelling measurements of PVA/SSA membranes. These two factors act interdependently on the membrane swelling. The sulfuric acid group in SSA took an important role in the membrane performance. The cross-linking effect might be more dominant than the hydrogen bonding effect due to the sulfuric acid group at 7% SSA membrane. Hydrogen bonding effect was more important for 5% SSA membrane. In vapor permeation, density or concentration of methanol in vapor feed is lower than that of methanol in liquid feed, as a result, the hydrogen bonding portion between the solvent and the hydroxyl group in PVA is reduced in vapor permeation. In this case, the 7% SSA membrane shows the highest separation factor of 2187 with the flux of 4.84g/$m^2$hr for MTBE/methanol=80/20 mixtures at 3$0^{\circ}C$.

  • A discussion on false alarm is a series of problems about a waste of police resources. The the false alarm primarily increase machine the cost of security firm but ultimately increase the costs of national and social management. Verified Report System has been in operation since July 1, 2013, We could analyze the actual operation of 112 report on false alarm rate was 82.4% before this system launched, but after implementation of the Verified Report System, this rate level downs below 69.7% records. So 12.7% is declined at the rate of false alarm. However, the actual alarm rate of Electronic Security itself is just only 0.3 % in the total number of cases responding in contrast to Police is considerable. It is more urgent to evolve the Verified Report System, so penalty system against the false alarm, Police registration system of sensors, and strengthening of the task of the company for installation and management of detection equipment are urgently needed.

  • A nascent membrane was prepared by using the solution evaporation method with a solution of sPEEK, EdAn (cross-linking reagent), and PEA (grafting reagent) in DMAc. Then, after the imination and sulfonation process the cross-linked and grafted ion-exchange membrane, CG-sPEEK, was obtained. The sulfonation and imination reactions were confirmed by FTIR analysis. In order to evaluate the possibility of prepared membrane for the use of an ion-exchange membrane in PEMFC, proton conductivity, water uptake and volume change were measured and compared with a commercial membrane, Nafion 115. It was revealed that since the proton conductivity (0.17 S/cm) of prepared membrane were much higher than those of Nafion 115 (0.10 S/cm) the prepared membrane could be used for the ion-exchange membrane in PEMFC. However, the high water uptake (130%) of CG-sPEEK should be reduced for the dimension stability.

  • The Ni based adsorbent was prepared by co-precipitation method and its performance for removing carbon monoxide was investigated. Here, silica, aluminium silicate and ${\gamma}$-alumina were used for carriers of catalyst. $Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $Ni(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ were utilized for Ni precursors. Precipitants were urea and citric acid. After precipitation of Ni salt on the carrier and following reduction using $H_2$ gas, adsorbent was prepared and its performance was analyzed based on EDS, TPR and XRD experiments. In accordance with change of precipitation agents, Ni salts on carrier, carriers and reduction condition. Adsorbent performance for removing carbon monoxide was investigated. The adsorbent with 54.8 wt% Ni prepared using urea precipitant under reduction condition at $500^{\circ}C$ for 3 h exhibited the best CO removal performance.

  • Larval development of Chirona cristatus Ren and Riu, 1978, found in the low part of rocks in the intertidal clone or the shell of scallops, was described in detail and compared with those of other known barnacles. Durations from nauplius through cyprid to pinhead stage are three weeks at 20$\pm$0.5$^{\circ}C$. Trilobed labrum bearing three groups of slender hairs and frontolateral horns folded under the anterior cephalic shield margin are diagnostic features through all nauplius stages. The posterior border of the cephalic shield bears a pair of cephalic shield spines in nauplius stages IV,V and Ⅵ. There is no specific hispid sets at the fourth group of the antennal endpodite. The dorsal thoracic spine, abdominal process and posterior shield spine haute numerous small spines Morphological features such as the cephalic shield, labrum, abdominal process, antennules, antennae and mandibles in all nauplius and cyprid stages are illustrated and described. The numerical setations of antennule in this species are found to be practically helpful for intraspecific identification of barnacle nauplius stages without dissection.

  • This study was performed to investigate the antioxidant effect of 80% ethanol extracts from Pimpinella brachycarpa in vitro. The extraction yields of 80% ethanol extract was 9.23 g/100 g. The extract was further fractionated subsequently by n-hexane, chloroform, ethylacetate, n-butanol and water. Water fraction showed the highest extraction yield among fractions. Antioxidative activities of different fractions were examined by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical generation, Rancimat test, thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, nitrite scavenging activity, inhibition of lipid peroxidation and peroxide value in linoleic acid in comparison with the commercial antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). Antioxidant activities of n-hexane fraction of Pimpinella brachycarpa ethanol extract were the highest among fractions. Furthermore, the antioxidative capacity of the n-hexane fraction was similar to that of BHT.

  • A recently developed propellant, ammonium dinitramide (ADN, $NH_4N(NO_2)_2$ is stable and safe at an ambient condition. However, it requires high purity for practical applications. A very little quantity of foreign impurities in ADN may cause clogging of thruster nozzles and catalyst poisoning for the use of a liquid propellant. Thus, several purification processes for precipitated ADN particles such as repetition extraction, activated carbon adsorption and low-temperature extraction were presented in this study. The purifying methods helped to improve the chemical purity as evaluated by FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy in addition to ion chromatography (IC) analyses. Among the purification processes, adsorption was found to be the best, showing a final purity of 99.8% based on relative quantification by IC. Thermal analysis revealed an exothermic temperature of $148^{\circ}C$ for the synthesized liquid monopropellant, but rose to $188^{\circ}C$ when urea was added.
