  • Technologies for rapid concrete curing using elevated temperature are important for saving cost and time when constricting concrete structures. Recently, a microwave heating form was developed. In this study the early strength of concrete cured by the developed form was experimentally investigated. Large scale mock up tests were conducted six times, and the results were analyzed based on the maturity theory. Logarithmic correlation curves were generated based on the measured strength and estimated maturity. It was confirmed that the strength development of the concrete cured by microwave heating form can be estimated by the equivalent age theory usually applied to steam-curing technology. By using the microwave heating form, one day at most is enough to get the required strength for the safe removal of forms, even in cold weather.

  • Fatty acids analysis was carried out with mulberry seed. As a result, palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic cid and linoleic acid were detected as a major fatty acid. Their rates of composition were 8.8${\pm}$3.3, 4.2${\pm}$1.6, 5.8${\pm}$2.3 and 81.2${\pm}$6.9(%), respectively. The unsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid and linoleic acid were abundant in mulberry seed. Paticularly, five accessions including ‘Gukkwang’, ‘Jaelaenosang’, ‘Sangbansibmunja (Jeonnam) ’, ‘Neunggeum’ and ‘Suwonnosang’ were observed only with linoleic acid. Unsaturated fatty acids are known to have physiological effects decreasing the serum cholesterol. From the above result, we confirm that mulberry fruits have abundant unsaturated fatty acids and anthocyanin pigments, and they are of great value as functional food resources.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the anti-obesity effect of Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus After inducing obesity by feeding hight fat diet (diet induced obesity model: DIO) for four weeks, each 8 rats were assigned to normal (Nor), high fat diet (HF), high fat diet containing orlistat (PC), high fat diet containing different concentration of Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus (UPDM_L, UPDM_H) and Discorea Japonica Thunb. (UPD) extract. Although the UPD, UPDM_L (ultrafine pulverized Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus: 400 mg/kg) and UPDM_H (DIO oral administration ultrafine pulverized Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus: 800 mg/kg) showed weight gain inhibition effects, the results of poor obesity inhibition rather than PC were confirmed. However, it showed a more effective weight loss effect in UPDM_H than UPD, and significantly reduced the weight of epididymal fat and subcutaneous fat. Furthermore, the possibility of anti-obesity effects of Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus can be confirmed by observing the effects of reducing serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL concentrations, reducing ALT and AST levels, and inhibiting fat build-up in liver tissue. It is believed that Discorea Japonica Thunb. fermented with Monascus can be expected to utilize as a functional material that is important to improve anti-obesity and metabolic syndrome.

  • This study conducted a network meta-analysis to compare the effectiveness and ranking of pressure ulcer preventive programs in intensive care units. A frequency network meta-analysis was performed to identify evidence from relevant randomized control trials. A total of 10 randomized control trials involving 5 intervention subgroups were included in this study. Based on the ranking probabilities(P-Score), preventive materials was ranked as the most effective among all programs (P-Score 85.3.%: OR=0.12, 95% CI: 0.03, 0.49). Next was silicone foam dressing(P-Score 84.5%: OR=0.14, 95% CI: 0.05, 0.38), care bundle(P-Score 60.0%: OR=0.29, 95% CI: 0.07, 1.25), reposition (P-Score 32.3%: OR=0.66, 95% CI: 0.21, 2.09) and synthetic fabrics (P-Score 23.8%: OR=0.85, 95% CI: 0.20, 3.65). It is necessary to develop practical and efficient interventions that can prevent pressure ulcers in intensive care unit patients, improve patient safety, and reduce nurses' workload.

  • The tactical mobile ad-hoc network(MANET) consists of distributed autonomous networks between individual ground nodes, which is effective in terms of network survivability and flexibility. However, due to constraints such as limited power, terrain, and mobility, frequent link disconnection and shadow area may occur in communication. On the other hand, the satellite network has the advantage of providing a wide-area wireless link overcoming terrain and mobility, but has limited bandwidth and high-latency characteristic. In the future battlefield, an integrated network architecture for interworking multi-layer networks through a heterogeneous network gateway (HNG) is required to overcome the limitations of the existing individual networks and increase reliability and efficiency of communication. In this paper, we propose a new HNG architecture and detailed algorithm that integrates satellite network and the tactical MANET and enables reliable data transfer based on flow characteristics of traffic. The simulations validated the proposed architecture using Riverbed Modeler, a network-level simulator.

  • In this review, numerical model results from global and regional climate models are introduced to regional detailed climate changes over East Asia and Korea. In particular, regional climate change scenarios in this region, which are created by several research groups in Korea based on Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) of IPCC 4th assessment report are introduced and characteristics of the scenarios are investigated. Despite slight differences in intensity, all scenarios reveal prominent warming over the Korean peninsula in future climate. Changes in precipitation amount vary with given scenarios and periods, but the frequency and intensity of heavy precipitation generally tend to increase in all scenarios. South Korea except for mountainous regions is expected to change into subtropical climate in future, which accompanies distinct changes in ecosystems and seasons.

  • The aims of this study are to identify levels of diabetes self-care activities and find associated factors of the elderly with Type 2 diabetes. The participants for this study were 264 elderly Koreans over 65 years old who visited one general hospital in S city in South Korea for their medical treatment. In the results, there are few statistically significant differences in general characteristics and disease related variables according with diabetes self-care activities (DSCA). DSCA showed negative correlation with depression (r=-.278, p=.033) and positive correlation with ADLs(r=.310, p=.013)and IADLs(r=.415, p=.001). Therefore, the findings of this study suggest implementing self-care activities to the elderly with diabetes based on their psychological factors (depression) and functional capacities (ADL and IADL). In addition, the advanced research will be needed for developing tailored nursing educations and interventions to improve diabetes self-care activities of elderly patients.

  • The effects on the radical scavenging activities and hepatic lipid levels in rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD) in the 70% ethanolic extract from Acer tegmentosum Maxim (ATM) were evaluated. Total phenol content of ATM was 168.60 mg catechin/g in the 70% ethanolic extract of Acer tegmentosum. The DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities were 18.32 mM TE/g and 32.25 mM TE/g, respectively. Food efficiency ratio was lower significantly in supplemented group with 150 mg/kg BW/day during 5 weeks (HFD+ATM) compared to HFD. Total cholesterol and triglyceride contents in liver tissue of HFD+ATM were lower significantly compared to those of the HFD. Supplementation of ATM significantly decreased lipid peroxide contents and increased radical scavenging activity in the liver tissue compared with that of HFD group. Moreover, the hepatocytes of HFD rats showed a typical fatty liver morphology showing the presence of cytoplasmic lipid droplets, whereas administration of ATM attenuated the number and the size of lipid droplets. In the liver tissue of ATM administrated HFD group, the mRNA levels of SREBP-1c, $PPAR{\gamma}$, and FAS were decreased. Therefore, these results suggest that Acer tegmentosum extracts could have antioxidant activities and the hypolipidemic effects in liver tissue by its phenolic compounds.
