  • The industry information grows faster than any other information resources in the Internet age. Unfortunately, however, there is no consensus on the standard of the classification among the information providers of the industry fields. This may a problematic issue not only in building a continuous and systematic development of the industry information, but also in the use of the information among the users. This study aims to propose a well-structured and/or an efficient classification scheme for the industry information to help the users with easy to retrieve the Internet resources. To do this, we analyzed the subject classification scheme of the domestic industry information on the web sites, which is largely adopted the \"Korean Standard for the Industry Classification\". In addition, we suggested the principle of the subject classification and their hierarchial structure derived from the analysis of the knowledge and document classification scheme. As a result, it was suggested an optimized industry classification scheme based on the analysis of the validity test of classification item measured by the quantitative analysis of the industry information, which it currently accessible through the Internet. • As we enter the knowledge society, the importance of information as a new form of capital is being emphasized. The importance of information classification is also increasing for efficient management of digital information produced exponentially. In this study, we tried to automatically classify and provide tailored information that can help companies decide to make technology commercialization. Therefore, we propose a method to classify information based on Korea Standard Industry Classification (KSIC), which indicates the business characteristics of enterprises. The classification of information or documents has been largely based on machine learning, but there is not enough training data categorized on the basis of KSIC. Therefore, this study applied the method of calculating similarity between documents. Specifically, a method and a model for presenting the most appropriate KSIC code are proposed by collecting explanatory texts of each code of KSIC and calculating the similarity with the classification object document using the vector space model. The IPC data were collected and classified by KSIC. And then verified the methodology by comparing it with the KSIC-IPC concordance table provided by the Korean Intellectual Property Office. As a result of the verification, the highest agreement was obtained when the LT method, which is a kind of TF-IDF calculation formula, was applied. At this time, the degree of match of the first rank matching KSIC was 53% and the cumulative match of the fifth ranking was 76%. Through this, it can be confirmed that KSIC classification of technology, industry, and market information that SMEs need more quantitatively and objectively is possible. In addition, it is considered that the methods and results provided in this study can be used as a basic data to help the qualitative judgment of experts in creating a linkage table between heterogeneous classification systems.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a classification system that can classify various industrial and craft materials consistently and systematically by comparing and analyzing the classification system of materials libraries in domestic and foreign. For this study, it was investigated the operation cases and classification system of domestic and foreign material libraries, and then proposed a method to classify consistently and systematically by comparing and analyzing the classification items of KDC and DDC. The classification system of material library was not classified by subject, but classified into the name of material and type, or the classification system of a material library was divided by Arabic numeral as a general classification system. It is difficult to access and share information because most of material libraries use the classification system developed by the library itself. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a standard classification system to share the information stored in the material libraries.

  • In this study, we have proposed an estimation model of domestic market size using the linking between standard statistical classification systems, and reviewed the practical applicability of the model. The results of the mining and manufacturing survey of Statistics Korea conducted on the basis of KSIC (Korea Standard Industrial Classification) and Korea trade statistics based on HS (The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System; Harmonized System) classification were linked for the model by using the correspondence tables provided by Statistics Korea and United Nations Statistics Division. The most serious problem to adopt the integrated KSIC-ISIC-HS correspondence table for the estimation of domestic market size is the complex multiple linkages among KSIC and HS codes. In this study, we have suggested the method to divide the amount of trade corresponding to the HS codes linked to more than two ISIC codes based on the ratio of shipments corresponding to the ISIC codes as the weight. Then, it is possible to analyze the domestic market size of 125 ISIC codes in the manufacturing industry and to forecast the market size in the near future by using the model. Although the model has some limitations such as the difficulty in analysis on more subdivided items than ISIC items, the impossibility of the analysis on items in industries except for manufacturing, errors in the shipment due to some missing data, this study has significance in the sense that it provided the analysis method of domestic market size by using the most objective, reliable and sustainably useful data.

  • This study is to arrange the amount of foreign direct investment(FDI) inflow into the country between 2011 and 2013, using the Input-output Table on the basis of the bench-mark table of the same period, based on the Industry Relation Table. As a result, the average amount of FDI inflow of the three years was estimated 15.3 trillion won, and the average gross product inducement amount 45.8 trillion won. The characteristic of FDI inflow is that it is weighted in the industries with the high index of the sensitivity of dispersion and the high index of the power of dispersion, such as chemical products, electric and electronic equipment and metal products. It is especially anticipated to attract FDI to the industry with the high index of the sensitivity of dispersion used as the intermediary product.

  • Standards boost technological innovation by promoting information sharing, compatibility, stability and quality. Identifying groups of companies that particularly benefit from these functions of standards in their technological innovation and commercialization helps to customize planning and implementation of standards-related policies for demand groups. For this purpose, this study engages in profiling of SMEs whose R&D objective is to respond to standards as well as those who need to implement standards system for technological commercialization. Then it suggests a prediction model that can distinguish such companies from others. To this end, decision tree analysis is conducted for profiling of characteristics of subject SMEs through data mining. Subject SMEs include (1) those that engage in R&D to respond to standards (Group1) or (2) those in need of product standard or technological certification policies for commercialization purposes (Group 2). Then the study proposes a prediction model that can distinguish Groups 1 and 2 from others based on several variables by adopting discriminant analysis. The practicality of discriminant formula is statistically verified. The study suggests that Group 1 companies are distinguished in variables such as time spent on R&D planning, KoreanStandardIndustryClassification (KSIC) category, number of employees and novelty of technologies. Profiling result of Group 2 companies suggests that they are differentiated in variables such as KSIC category, major clients of the companies, time spent on R&D and ability to test and verify their technologies. The prediction model proposed herein is designed based on the outcomes of profiling and discriminant analysis. Its purpose is to serve in the planning or implementation processes of standards-related policies through providing objective information on companies in need of relevant support and thereby to enhance overall success rate of standards-related projects.
