  • The purpose of this study is to examine the associations between social support, self-esteem, self-concealment, and depression among college students. The mediating effects of self-concealment and gender differences in the associations were also examined. This study investigated these relationships and the gender differences using structural equation modeling multi-group analysis. The data collected from 307 college students in Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas were analyzed. The results indicated that both social support and self-esteem had effects on depression indirectly through self-concealment, and self-esteem also had direct effects on depression. The indirect effects of self-concealment were statistically significant. There were no gender differences in these relationships. These results suggest that self-concealment should be focused to prevent or alleviate depression among college students.

  • This study investigates the failure mechanism and load-carrying capacity of a single-shell lining which has no disturbance in transfer of shear force, with respect to a conventional double-shell lining which has separation between layers of shotcrete lining and secondary concrete lining by water-proof membrane. In order to evaluate the capacity, a 2-D numerical investigation is preliminarily carried out and then real-scale loading tests with tunnel lining section specimens are performed on the condition given by the numerical investigation. In the test, a concentrated load is applied for considering a released ground load or rock wedge load. Through this study, it appears that the single-shell lining takes the load-bearing capacity 20% higher than in case of the double-shell lining. In addition, a possibility of a composite single-shell shotcrete layer composed by multiple bonded layers partly involving different contents of high-capacity additives is shown thereby leading to use of less amount of the high-capacity additives on the condition of taking a similar load-bearing capacity.

  • Recently several researches have been conducted to develop sliding track system in which friction between concrete track and bridge slab has been reduced. This paper investigated shear load carrying capacity of lateral supporting concrete block which should be implemented to resist lateral load due to train in sliding track system. In order to evaluate shear load carrying capacity of lateral supporting concrete block, analytical model has been developed considering concrete friction and rebar dowel action along construction joint. The proposed model predicted test results on the shear load carrying capacity from literature conservatively by 13~23% because effect of aggregate interlock along crack surface was neglected. Since construction joint status is ambiguous on construction site, it can be concluded that the proposed model can be used for reasonable design of lateral supporting concrete block. Based on the proposed model, design proposal for lateral supporting concrete block has been established.

  • A series of model tests were conducted to investigate how the number of reinforcement layers, stiffnesses, types of reinforcement material and buried depth of a flexible pipe can affect bearing capacity-settlement curve at a loose sand foundation. In the test results, whereas the type of failure in unreinforced sand was local shear, the type of failure, for model tests with more than 2 reinforcement layers in loose sand, was general shear: The number of the optimum reinforcement layers was found to be two: Stiffness and type of reinforcement were more important than the maximum tensile strength of reinforcement in improving bearing capacity. When the depth of buried pipe from the sand surface was less than the width of the footing, test results showed that both bearing capacity and ultimate bearing capacity of buried pipe in unreinforced sand significantly decreased, and the type of failure in the reinforced sand changed from general shear to local shear.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine childcare teacher's cognition of human right awareness for handicapped children and consciousness of social integration. The subjects were 209 kindergarten teachers in G city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis with SPSS ver. 14.0. The results are as follows: Among the childcare teacher's awareness about children with disabilities human right, awareness of right to survive, right to be protected, right to participate, and right to development had direct effects on their consciousness of social integration. Among the social supports influenced by childcare teacher's awareness of human right, informational support and material support had both direct and indirect effects on their consciousness of social integration. Therefore, as childcare teachers' awareness of human right is an important factor for their consciousness of social integration, a systemic human right education for human right awareness should be provided, the necessity of establishing various social support system should be recognized to foster the social environment of respecting young children's human right, and human right awareness should be practiced into action in daily life, in order to help childcare teachers to develop as the main agents of children's human right.

  • This study investigated the effects of middle school youth's abuse experiences on the ego-resilience and the moderating effects of social support. For this purpose, the survey and analysis were carried out targeted on 568 students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade of middle schools in Busan. First, it was indicated that abuse experiences of youth affect on ego- resilience. In detail, the lower the grade and the less the abuse experiences, the ego-resilience gets increased. Second, in view of impacts of youth's abuse experiences on resilience, the social support has a moderating effect. Based on the results above, this study suggests the social support measures to be taken by home, school, community and country in order to improve the resilience which could be a self-power to overcome his or her own circumstances and situations despite the negative experiences of abuse experienced youth.

  • It is very important to prevent and management negative sides in advance can occur in service transaction as an employee' attitude during service encounter has a decisive effect on customers' service evaluation. Work stress has become one of the most widely studied topics in research, mainly because of its importance to employees' psychological health, which in turn affects service quality and organizational effectiveness. This study aims to explore how social support that hotel employees perceive influence on job stress and job burnout. Data were collected from 355 hotel employees at Deluxe Hotel in Seoul, analyzed using structural equation modeling techniques. The findings are as follows Firstly, social support had a significant influence on job stress. Secondly, social support had a significant influence on job burnout. Thirdly, job stress had a significant influence on job burnout. To reduce job stress and job burnout recognition, self-esteem and motivation, the hotel need to deliver a stronger coaching program. In addition, for an organization to respond flexibly. Finally, the results were discussed in the context of providing the job burnout management for employee.

  • This study presents a simple method which can estimate displacement using measured strain response of simply supported girder bridges. The basic concept of the present method is derived from a relation between displacement and strain, and is generalized by introducing analytical tool. Static and dynamic laboratory test are conducted on simply supported plate which is designed to respond dynamically similar to actual bridges to experimentally verify the present method, and displacement and strain are measured at the midpoint of specimen. Displacement estimated by using measured strain is well agreed with measured one. This study demonstrates that the present method is suitable for estimating displacement of real simply supported bridge, in which the installation of a displacement transducer at the fixed reference point is difficult.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine between the social isolation and smart phone addiction in elderly. Under this relationship, we investigated the double-mediation effects of self-regulation and social support. Research data were collected from 404 elderly in DaeJeon, South Korea. The final sample were 404 who fully responded. As a result of structural equation modeling, the social isolation of elderly significantly effected directly in smart phone addiction. Furthermore, self-regulation and social support effected the smart phone addiction indirectly through the double-mediation path. Based on the results of this study, the implications and future studies of the smart phone addiction of elderly are suggested.

  • In nuclear power plant, anchor bolts for pressurizer supports are sufficiently used in terms of safety reason, but field inspections have reported that some bolts exceed the limit of their allowable hardness. Because the high level of hardness may lead to failures due to the stress corrosion or fracture toughness, a regular inspection is required for the bolts in nuclear power plant. Thus, this research measures the hardness of bolts currently used in pressurizer supports and then estimates maximum allowable stresses preventing failures by stress corrosion and fracture toughness. Using the ANSYS program, the stresses of the bolts in the regular condition and accidental condition have been calculated, and the possible maximum stress has been compared with the estimated allowable stresses. From the results, the stresses of bolts in the accidental condition satisfy the allowable safety stress from the stress corrosion failure. However, in the future, it shall be needed to consider the reflection of the structure assembling method on the assembling procedure to ensure the pressurizer integrity during maintenance period time.
