Gap Analysis of Users' Perceptions and Staffs' Expectations Regarding the Library Service Qualify, Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty : A Case Study of the National Library of Korea (이용자와 직원이 인식하는 도서관의 서비스품질과 만족도, 충성도 - 국립중앙도서관의 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study analyzed the gap between users' perception and staff expectations on users' perceptions about dimensions of library service quality(library staff, service supports. materials and resources, and facilities and equipments), service value, user satisfaction, royalty. using newly developed model. Six hundred-fourteen users and one hundred staff members or the National Libra of Korea were participated in the survey using questionnaires. Users evaluated service quality lower but evaluated service value, satisfaction. and loyalty higher In terms of showing complaining behaviors, users were less than staffs expected. Model analysis for users and staff3 showed that service value and general satisfaction influenced on complaining behavior and loyalty. For users. only the dimension of library staff influenced significantly on the service value, satisfaction, complaining behavior, and loyalty. None of the other dimensions of the service qualify showed significant relationship to them in the case of staff expectation.

  • 도서관 경영은 일반기업의 경영과는 달리 도서관 자체의 특수성을 최대한으로 고려한 관리기술이 필요하다. 또한, 어느 조직이든 인적자원이 중요한 조직의 요소가 되지만, 도서관의 경우 지적인 정보서비스가 이루어지는 곳이므르 특히 인적자원의 중요성이 더 높다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 도서관 직원의 직무만족은 도서관 조직의 목표달성을 위해 매우 중요한 역할을 하며, 직원의 직무만족을 높일 수 있는 리더십인 필요하다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 도서관 직원의 직무만족과 리더십 간의 관계를 규명하므로써, 도서관의 주 목표인 정보제공의 효율성을 달성하는데 기여하고자 한다.

A Study on the Current Status and Activities of Korean Library Staffs Who Worked in Libraries during the Japanese Colonial Period (일제강점기 한국인 도서관 직원의 현황과 활동에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the status of Korean library staffs and their role who were alienated as a subjugated class in Japanese Colonial Era and re-evaluate their effort. For these, firstly, this study investigated libraries that Korean librarian worked and the status of Korean staffs. Secondly, examined their position and its role in the library. Lastly, investigated the status of Korean librarians' participation for training and submission of magazine related to library. As a result, in Japanese Colonial Era, there were totally 241 Korean library staffs in 27 libraries. 73 and 22 librarians each attended the Library Institute and The 29th National Library Conference. And contributors to major library magazins were reached to 40. With this result, it can be evaluated that these library staffs made some parts of efforts making modern libraries in Korea.

A Study on the Revision of Staffing Standards for Korean Public Libraries (공공도서관 직원배치기준 개정안 연구)

  • Regardless of which country, all public libraries need facilities, collections, and funds. But how well the library system succeeds depends on the staff committed to providing the highest possible level of service to the community. The public library, therefore, should employ the appropriate number of full-time staff. In order to warrant such a work force, this study analyzed the juridical justification, logical validity, realistic fitness, and usefulness of current legal and recommended staffing standards. This study also suggested the revisions of total space of buildings and collection size as crucial variables for library staffing, division of legal service populations, basic staffing level, and additional staff in proportion to service populations for public libraries in Korea.

  • This study tries to develop and testify the structural equation model(SEM) for customer satisfaction of information commons in digital library(NDL) of the National Library of Korea and to calculate library customer satisfaction index (LCSI) based both on customers' perceptions and the staff members' expectations. It also compares the customers' perceptions with the staff members' expectations about service quality, satisfaction, and loyalty. Full mediation model is better fit than partial mediation model for this study, and it is proved that this model can be used for both groups. This study calculate LCSI for the information commons as 75.69. The comparison the customers' perceptions with the staff members' expectations shows that all of the figures of the former are higher than those of the latter.

Growth of the Korean Porfessional Librarians (사서직의 전문성과 성장에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to interpret the growth and the present status of Korean librarians using statistical data. The data were collected from various statistics on Korean libraries and were analyzed for a time series The results are : The librarians are not well recognized as professionals in korea. Only a small portion of the library staffs are professionals but professionals are gradually increasing. However, many librarians do not belong to the professional associations or societies. Thus appropriate promotional policy for the professional librarianship is very much desired.

  • The success or failure of the public library system depends upon the effective management of the human resources. It means that public library's staff is the most important resource in the operation and delivery of services. In order to provide the best service to the community, therefore, it is necessary to maintain excellent staff to make effective use of the information resources of the library and to meet the demands of the community. The goal of this study is to compare and analyse the staff standards and guidelines of public libraries in international organizations(IFLA/UNESCO, ISO), major developed countries(USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Taiwan, Japan), and Korea. In addition, the implications derived from this study will be used to provide a valuable theoretical background and rationale for the future research.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 공공도서관 직원의 독서활동이 직무만족도와 조직몰입도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 분석하는 것이다. 이는 기업에서 직원의 독서활동을 활성화하여 조직의 경쟁력을 높이는 경영기법인 독서경영과 문화경영이 직원의 직무만족과 조직몰입을 높인다는 선행연구들의 결과를 기반으로 하였다. 이에 서울시 동북부 지역 지자체 운영 공공도서관의 직원을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 신뢰도 분석과 다중회귀분석을 통하여 데이터를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 공공도서관 직원의 독서량, 독서시간이 직무자체 만족도에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 이용자 독서모임 참여 기간이 사회적 인식 만족도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 조직몰입에 대해서는 독서시간이 정서적 몰입도에, 이용자 독서모임 참여 기간은 지속적 몰입도와 규범적 몰입도에 유의한 영향을 미치고 있었다.
