  • Hollywood traditional movie companies are continuously challenged by new-type companies represented by the streaming content platforms. Based on the latest market statistics, and with a multidimensional approach involving the production, distribution, projection and overseas market, etc, this paper analyzes the changes and development of North American movie industry in its process of coping with the globalization and digitalization of media in 2018, and summarizes the effective measures for Hollywood mainstream movie companies to adjust their own structures and operation mechanism to maintain their development in the environment of new media consumption.

  • In this paper, it is predicted that the tendency of planning and genre films to produce high - quality films will continue, but it is necessary to have high value and meaningful films and solid storytelling. From the blockbuster warships to arts and low-budget films, the movie genre is centered around fiction and storytelling. However, in the case of Princess Deokhye, it is difficult to recognize any categories of entertainment or artistic due to the fact that it is highly visually and has a high historical status and low awareness. And the distortions of the facts have caused a lot of controversy. However, it seems that Dongju and Park are usually composed of individual - oriented narratives and can be freed from the artistic approach and historical facts in the material.   • In the movie market, make-up shows various ways of make up in professional technology as the industry develops. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the trend of making a movie with a change in the type of movie Regarding the characteristics of makeup in the early days of silent films, the stage makeup was fully used. also in the days of sound films, the realistic and concrete makeup was expressed such as straight makeup, character makeup, Special effects makeup, and digital makeup. With the development of the fourth industry, CGI special effects have become possible not only in the background of movies but also in makeup. In the movie, makeup does not use CGI makeup alone, but it is used in a combination of straight makeup, character makeup, and special effects makeup. That's why a variety of makeup needs to be taught. In the future, the domestic film industry should establish the improvement measures for educating the techniques of prosthetic/digital makeup by securing the sufficient finances to more vitalize the film industry of Korea in domestic/foreign markets.

  • This study evaluates the extent to which the government's financial support policy, the Audio-visual investment fund, contributed to raising capital for Korean films. Audio-visual investment fund in the Korean film industry, which has been formed through the public sector support since 1999. The Audio-visual investment fund is a leading financial support policy for the Korean film industry, and began with the investment of the Small and Medium Business Administration and the Korean Film Council. It has become an important source of Korean film production costs and has spread to other cultural industry sectors, as a way of capital procurement for a start-up companies and cultural projects. This study reconstruct the data of the organizations such as the size of a new investment fund by public sector, the ratio of public capital contribution, the amount and number of investment in Korean films, investment multiplier compared to equity investment, and the internal return rate(IRR) of liquidation funds in the Korean film capital market from 1999 to 2017. The purpose of this project was to provide the basis for assessing the achievements of the Audio-visual investment fund policy in contributing to the growth of the film industry.

Current Status of the Film Development Fund and Plan for Securing Finances (영화발전기금의 현황과 재원조성 방안)

  • The Film Development Fund was established in 2007 to improve the quality of film arts and promote the Korean film and video industry. As a key resource operated by the Korean Film Council, the film development fund provides various projects including support for the promotion of Korean film creation and production, funding in video-specialized investment associations, export and international exchanges of Korean films, and production of small-scale or short films. This study aims to propose ways to reinvent the film development fund, which is in danger of being depleted. Based on such purpose this study examined the status and problems of the current film development fund and reviewed previous literatures and related discussions. Furthermore, the policies of similar overseas organizations for film promotion including French National Film/Video Center (Centre National du Cinema et de l'image $anim{\acute{e}}e$, CNC) and the British Film Institute (BFI) were reviewed to draw a multi-faceted way to replenish the source of revenue for Korean film development fund.

  • The Korean film, which reached its 100th anniversary, has achieved remarkable growth. However, contrary to the facts revealed to the outside, there existed chronic problems. Representatively, the problems were classified into four types: vertical integration problems, lack of support for art and independent films, lack of diversity in video content, and sluggish exports. Therefore, in order to continuously develop Korean films, this study explored the development methods of the domestic film industry using the window theory of opportunity. As a result of the research, the Korean film industry as a late chase was developed through strategies to enter new technologies and paradigms, and strategies to enter through low entry costs for existing digital platforms, active government intervention, and changes in regulations. Through this, it was revealed that the whole film ecosystem should ultimately go through symbiotic cooperation.

A Study on Movie Consumption and Concentration Trends in Theaters and Online (극장과 온라인의 영화 소비와 소비집중도 추세에 관한 연구)

  • In the theater-based movie industry, it is known that the diversity of movie consumption is hindered due to concentrated consumption. This study extends the existing discussions on the concentration of movie consumption in theaters to the concentration of online movie consumption. In addition, the study analyzes the impact of Covid-19 pandemic on movie consumption and the concentration thereof. For analysis, panel data for the period from 2012 through 2021 were collected by utilizing the box office data of the Korean Film Council. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the concentration of consumption by movie, country, and genre was higher in theaters than online. Further, the concentration of movie consumption has increased both in theaters and online until the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. During the Covid-19 pandemic period, the size of consumption has decreased both in theaters and online, while the concentration of consumption by movie online has increased. The result of this study implies a need for policy-level efforts to convert the trend of consumption concentration for long-term development of the movie industry with secured diversity of movie consumption, and for this, the study suggests that the use of online media would be useful.

  • 영화산업의 메카라 불리우는 헐리우드를 비롯한 세계 영화계는 극심한 소재의 고갈로 비슷비슷한 내용의 반복, 기존의 영화를 리메이크하여 제작하는 관행이 점차 커지고 있다. 이런 현상은 다른 영역의 콘텐츠를 영화로 재가공하는 'One Source Multi Use'의 확산을 가지고 왔는데, One Source Multi Use의 원천 소스로 가장 각광받고 있는 것이 만화다. 미국은 1930년대 초반부터 코믹스라는 장르의 만화산업이 발전하여 방대한 그래픽노블과 코믹스를 원천소스로 '슈퍼맨', '배트맨', '스파이더맨' 등의 시리즈를 내놓고 있다. 한국 역시 많은 수의 만화원작을 보유하고 있다. 이는 한국이 다른 나라와는 확연하게 차이가 나는 만화생산 및 소비시스템을 가지고 있는 것에 기인하는데 그것이 바로 만화가게로 일컬어지는 대본소 시스템이다. 대본소를 통한 만화의 보급은 가공할 만화의 생산을 주도했고 일간지를 통해 연재된 장편만화 역시 다른 나라에서는 찾아보기 힘든 시스템이다. 근래에 이르러 문화산업의 원천소스로 각광받는 만화는 스토리텔링을 근간으로 하기에 다양하게 다른 매체로 전이되고 재생산이 가능하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 단지 만화로서가 아닌 콘텐츠로 활용될 수 있는 만화원작의 필요조건이 무엇인지 분석하고자 한다.

Analyzing Factors of Success of Film Using Big Data : Focusing on the SNS Utilization Index and Topic Keywords of the Film (빅데이터를 활용한 영화흥행 요인 분석: 영화 <기생충>의 SNS 활용지수와 토픽키워드 중심으로)

  • In the rapidly changing era of the fourth industry, big data is being used in various fields. In recent years, the use of big data has been rapidly applied to overall cultural and artistic contents, and among them, the use of big data is essential as a film genre with a lot of capital. This research method is analyzed as the film , which won the Palme d'Or Prize of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival in 2019 and the works and directors' award at the Academy Awards. The analyzed value predicts the film's performance through opinion mining, which gives the value of the change and sensitivity of each data cycle, and extracts the utilization index and topic keywords of SNS such as Facebook and Twitter to reflect the audience's interest. Identify the factors. As such, if model performance and model development can be predicted through model analysis of film performance using big data, the efficiency of the film production process will be maximized while the risk of production cost and the risk of film failure will be minimized.
