  • This is a descriptive survey research aimed at investigating the level of digital literacy and verifying the impact of digital literacy and academic self-efficacy on problem solving in nursing students, with fousing on digital literacy, which is emerging in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Data were collected between April and May 2022 from 118 nursing students at a university located in K City, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression with the SPSS 18.0 program. The results showed that nursing students generally have good digital literacy, but they struggle with specific areas like material development and information evaluation. Nursing students' digital literacy (β=.311, p=.001), followed by academic self-efficacy (β=.184, p=.048), had a significant impact on problem-solving ability (F=12.237, p< .001), as explanaing 16.1% of the variation. To improve nursing students' digital literacy and problem solving, developing a more structured and situation-oriented nursing education curriculum is needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the factors affecting the academic resilience in nursing students. This study involved 280 second year nursing students. Data were collected from March 4 to 8 in 2013. Data were analyzed with frequency, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, person's correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression with using SPSS version 20.0. The score of academic resilience, problem solving abilities and communication skill in nursing students were 3.67, 3.53 and 3.50 respectively. The results showed that the higher problem solving abilities and communication skills, the higher academic resilience. The factors that significantly affected academic resilience were plan/practice, analytic ability, goal creation ability, cause analysis and performance/assessment accounting for 50.7% of the regression model. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the description of nursing students' academic resilience factors to develop effective education program.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of depression and life-stress by values in Korean university students. Data were collected by structured questionnaires form 212 students by convenient sampling methods from August to November 2011. The type of values were classified into: personal oriented values, 64.6%; social oriented values, 35.4%. There were no significant differences in depression by values. But there were significant differences in frequency of experiences and importance of life-stress by values. Also, there were significant differences for correlation between depression and life-stress by values. These results suggest that for the university student, the nursing strategies should be developed in order to improve ability to reduce life-stress and depression considering such differences by values. Especially, it is necessary to attention in management of stress and depression for students with personal oriented values.

  • The main purpose of study is to identify relevance between nature and types of risk factors that delinquent teenagers are exposed and types of methodologies implemented to prevent committing school violence, domestic violence, and suicide or to help recovering from violent activities and suicide attempts. The results show that school dropout has much relevance in risk factors such as probation, lawbreaking, smoking, drinking, runaway, domestic violence victim, and suicidal attempt. Risk rate of school dropout for those teenagers who smoke and drink in the period of runaway is 2.76 times higher than those teenagers who do not smoke or drink. More specifically, drinking increases more risk of school dropout than smoking. Contribution of this study is to identify empirical evidence that calls for comprehensive risk management for delinquent teenagers encompassing home, school, and community rather than focusing on risk itself.

  • This study analyzes the effect of poverty on child development outcomes including academic achievement, self-esteem, depression/anxiety, attention problems, aggression, and delinquency. The poverty experiences among elementary school children are longitudinally observed during 3 years between the 4th grade and the 6th grade. When development outcomes are compared among persistently poor children, transitory poor children, and non-poor children, academic achievement is found to be significantly different. The analyses of the relationships between the poverty status and developmental trajectories show that academic achievement among non-poor children has improved over time, while the level of poor children's achievement has decreased. The result also shows that problematic behaviors such as attention problems, aggression, delinquency has improved over time among all the children. Yet, the gap between poor and non-poor children has not decreased. The multivariate analyses indicate that the effect of poverty remains statistically significant only for academic achievement after children's individual and familial characteristics are controlled. Past experiences of poverty in addition to the current poverty affect academic achievement and persistent poverty has a stronger effect than transitory poverty on academic achievement, although the findings are not consistent across all the estimated models.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a STEAM Project-Based Learning on the elementary students' creative problem solving, scientific achievement and class satisfaction in elementary science class. For this purpose, the STEAM based project learning for students was developed and applied. The subjects were fifth grade students at S elementary school in Incheon divided two groups : an experimental class comprising of 28 students and a comparative class of 27 students. The results of this study were as follows: First, the change in students' creative problem solving ability in the experimental group applying the STEAM Project-Based Learning has statistically meaningful difference (p<.01). Second, a scientific achievement in experimental group has statistically meaningful difference (p<.05). Third, students' satisfaction in the experimental group was 59.6% for this program. Therefore, the STEAM based project learning program applied to this study might be useful to improve the students' creative problem solving ability and achievement in science.

  • This study suggested a process of redesigning and implementing problem based learning to enhance students' active and collaborative learning activities and learning outcomes. The results of this study are as follows. First, the ef ect of class participation, academic self-regulated learning, and academic self-efficacy were examined. As a result, first, the average of learning activity, class extension, and participation in class was high in the difference between before and after class. Second, the post average scores of all the factors except the 'evaluation' were higher than before. Third, academic self-efficacy showed a significant difference only in 'task preference'. Finally, students' satisfaction with the class was also high. The professor was also able to grasp the characteristics of individual students by designing and operating the classes using PBL, and it was confirmed that the interaction with students increased. Based on the results of this study, we discussed the limitations and educational implications of the problem based learning class and propose successful problem based learning design and operation of the classroom.
