At this point, the purpose of this study is to configure regional learning programs and apply them to the actual world. Important results of this study can be outlined as follows; First, the regional learning programs in the lifelong learning society are desirable to be configurated with the situated learning method focused on the characteristics of learners, instructors and the local contexts. In addition, the active training of regional human resources such as organizing learning circles and SERVICE-LEARNING through the participation of them is effective as a teaching method. Secondly, the consequence through the field excursion calling itself 'the geography exploration group', organized by the researcher and involved with participants together provoked the paradigm shift on their region and the regional identity. Thirdly, the active participation of local experts including geography teachers should be needed for the popularization of geography education. Hence, if we continue to develop the local learning programs tailored to regional traits and apply them to the actual world, geography education will play an important role to build the stable foundation in the lifelong learning society.

  • This study posits that a more equitable science education is possible through analyzing the sociocultural mechanisms that operate in the participation and marginalization in science learning process, and therefore aims to review research trends in this area of science education. To do so, the study analyzed 85 articles that adopted a sociocultural approach to science learning identity in major international journals. The review was organized into 1) overall trends such as the number of articles by year, country, learner's sociocultural background, research context and research methods, and 2) a more in-depth analysis of the main research problems and conceptual frameworks along with concrete research examples. The study found that the current research works in this area have contributed to broadening the idea of legitimate learners in science education by considering learners' various sociocultural identities as the positive resource for learning based on the premise that science learning occurs as identity formation through participating communities of practice, and critiquing the culture or discourses that oppress such identity formation. The studies in this area also brought up the equity issue in science education in ways which embrace various learners that had been marginalized in the traditional science class and facilitate their agency. Based on these findings, the study made a case for analyzing various sociocultural mechanisms relating to the participation and marginalization in science learning to realize 'science education for all Koreans' and proposed future research direction.

  • This study investigated and analyzed the social and emotional learning components of middle school science, and high school integrated science and science inquiry experiments, which are common subjects that all students must complete. The subjects of analysis were 139 achievement standards of science and curriculum and 496 activities included in textbooks. The research results are as follows. In the case of curriculum achievement standards, 'cultural understanding' was hardly included among the seven science and social-emotional learning elements, 'numeracy' and 'creative thinking' appeared high in middle school, 'critical thinking', 'social technology' and 'ethical understanding' were included with high frequency in high school. And in the case of textbook activity, the tendency of social-emotional learning elements in middle school and high school was similar. 'critical thinking', 'creative thinking', and 'social skills' were mainly provided, while 'ethical understanding' and 'cultural understanding' were reflected in a limited way. In order to cultivate the elements of overall social-emotional learning, it is necessary to specify the achievement standards of the curriculum or to supplement the textbook activities and teaching-learning process.

  • This paper is to investigate the efficacy of cyber education by self-assessment strategy. Self-assessment strategy contains self-monitoring function and self-control function. 202 students of online university attended and analyzed with frequency, correlation, t-test, Paired t-test. The major findings were as follows. The learners who experienced self-assessment in the initial stage of class had higher changes in social distance to the mentally disabled people positively than the learners who didn't experienced that. This self-assessment strategy can be assumed that it is effective strategy to improve e-learning efficacy and it will contribute to self-directed education for enhancement of on-line education.
