  • These days, the importance of the mathematics interaction is strongly emphasized, which leads to the need of research on how the interaction is being practiced in the math class and what can be the desirable interaction in terms of mathematical thinking. To figure out the correlation between the mathematical interaction patterns and mathematical thinking, it also classifies mathematical thinking levels into the phases of recognizing, building-with and constructing. we can say that there are all of three patterns of the mathematics interactions in the class, and although it seems that the funnel pattern is contributing to active interaction between the students and teachers, it has few positive effects regarding mathematical thinking. In other words, what we need is not the frequency of the interaction but the mathematics interaction that improves students' mathematical thinking. Therefore, we can conclude that it is the focus pattern that is desirable mathematics interaction in the class in the view of mathematical thinking.

  • The purpose of this research was to look at whether small group drawing activities can be applied to learning content that combine mathematics and art, by analyzing the changes in $10^{th}$ grade students' interests in mathematics and particular features of their strategic thinking that were reflected in small group drawing activities using graphs and inequations. The results of the study are as follows: 1. The small group drawing activity using graphs and inequations demonstrated that students interests in mathematics could experience positive changes. 2. The small group drawing activity using graphs and inequations was effective in stimulating the students' strategic thinking skills, which are higher level thinking activities necessary for creating problem solving. As the students went through the whole process of accomplishing a complete goal, the students engaged in integrated thinking activities that brought understandings of basic graphs and inequations together, and were also found to use such higher level thinking functions needed in achieving creative problem solving such as critical thinking, flexible thinking, development-oriented thinking, and inferential thinking. 3. The small group drawing activity using graphs and in equations could be expected to constitute learning content that integrate mathematics and art, and is an effective solution in boosting students' strengths in mathematics by way of activities that consider students' unique cognitive and qualitative peculiarities and through integration with art.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate science teachers' thoughts about hypotheses and rules related to the contents of ninth grade 'Construction of Matter' and 'Rules of Matter Change' chapters. The changes of their thoughts through experience of the abduction viewpoint were also analyzed. Twenty-two science teachers in the masters course took lessons and discussions related to the abduction viewpoint in the course of three weeks. The changes in thought of four teachers selected among them were investigated through individual interviews and their reports. From the investigation, it was found that the two teachers who had not recognized the problems of textbook content order could distinguish rules and hypotheses after the lessons and discussions. The two teachers who had recognized the problems before the lessons gained the abduction viewpoint through the lessons. They also recognized new opinions related to teaching styles for students and the meaning of the abduction viewpoint on education.

  • In this research, we reconstructed the textbook on the concept of rate and ratio, which is based on the review on the previous researches and the analysis on the elementary textbook of the 7th mathematics curriculum. We conducted the teaching experiment using the reconstructed textbook, which is to identify the students' conception of rate and ratio and the appropriateness and limit of the reconstructed textbook. As the results of this study, we identify that the changed sequence of instruction (that is, ratio ${\rightarrow}$ percent and value of rate ${\rightarrow}$ rate) was very proper to help students understand the concept of rate and ratio. The relative comparison and absolute comparison and the additive thinking and multiplicative thinking included in the reconstructed textbook were identified very helpful to students' understanding. Meanwhile some contexts given in the reconstructed textbook were identified to cause the students' cognitive confusions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate explanations of high school chemistry II textbooks and the diversity of chemistry major teachers' thinking types related to dilute solution properties for finding the sources of students' difficulties. Eight kinds of textbooks were analyzed, and the teachers' thoughts were searched by a questionnaire developed for inquiring teachers' preference of explanation types. We analyzed teachers' responses from individual interviews after the questionnaire to discern their deeper thoughts. From the results, it was found that the explanations of the textbooks were not clear enough to have scientific conceptions. The figures and explanations of the textbooks do not match either. It was also found that chemistry major teachers' thoughts were not solid when they suffered cognitive confliction by different situation with their thoughts.

  • This study developed an SSI (Socio-Scientific Issue) discussion program that applies a creative technique called six thinking hats, and then investigated the differences in argumentation patterns and effects on the decision-making abilities of each character feature of students between SNS debate and existing face to face debate. There were three SSI themes - Designer Babies, embryonic stem cell study, and legitimacy of abortion. Students were divided into two groups, the debate group using SNS and face to face debate group. The character patterns of students were divided to 'extraversion,' 'agreeableness,' and 'conscientiousness' through test sheets for character features for each student. Both groups were educated for creative discussion methods using six thinking hats and then, the class progressed. As a result of analyzing argumentation patterns used in SNS debate and face to face debate, the most used argumentation pattern was the "cause pattern." But comparing to face to face debate, other patterns (mark, inference, authority, motive) were also used in SNS debate. The study analyzed three factors of decision-making ability for each character feature of students such as complexity, perspectives, and inquiry. As a result, for 'complexity' factor, there was a significant difference between SNS debate group and face to face debate group only in the student group of Agreeableness. For 'perspectives' factor, there were significant differences between SNS debate group and face to face debate group in all three characters. Finally, for inquiry, there were no significant differences between SNS debate group and face to face debate group in all three characters. Accordingly it would be necessary to apply SNS debate using the six thinking hats in SSI education to enhance perspectives.

  • This study was to analyze verbal interactions between teachers and students after observations on teachers' questioning and feedback, students' response types and frequency analysis at middle-school class of average and gifted students. As for the verbal interaction between teachers and students of science class of general students, it was dominant for teachers to utilize questions for summarizing or guiding for textbook contents as they are. They were focused on immediate feedback in a restatement form. The students used simple responses like yes/no in general. The most high frequency of verbal interaction models expressed were in the order of cognitive-memory thinking question-short answer-immediate feedback. On the other hand, teachers of gifted students' science class threw divergent and evaluative thinking questions of open question, such as 'what's the reason?' or 'why is it?' Immediate feedback in explanatory form was mainly provided as well. The level of feedback delay was higher than general class and that of immediate feedback was lower than general class. The students preferred short words or a not-complicated sentence when they replied and their participation was more attentive and positive. Hence, The high frequency of verbal interaction models expressed were in order of cognitive-memory thinking questions-elaborative short answer-delayed feedback.
