This study investigated the Aristotle's continuity and the historical development of continuity of function to explore the differences between the concepts of mathematics and students' thinking about continuity of functions. Aristotle, who sought the essence of continuity, characterized continuity as an 'indivisible unit as a whole.' Before the nineteenth century, mathematicians considered the continuity of functions based on space, and after the arithmetization of nineteenth century modern ${\epsilon}-{\delta}$ definition appeared. Some scholars thought the process was revolutionary. Students tended to think of the continuity of functions similar to that of Aristotle and mathematicians before the arithmetization, and it is inappropriate to regard students' conceptions simply as errors. This study on the continuity of functions examined that some conceptions which have been perceived as misconceptions of students could be viewed as paradigmatic thoughts rather than as errors.
The newly revised mathematics curriculum of 2007 speaks of ultimate goal to develop ability to think and communicate mathematically, in order to develop ability to rationally deal with problems arising from the life around, which puts emphasize on mathematical communication. In this study, analysis on mathematical communication and analogical thinking process of group of students with similar level of academic achievement and that with different level, and thus analyzed if such communication has affected analogical thinking process in any way. This study contains following subjects: 1. Forms of mathematical communication took placed at the two groups based on achievement level were analyzed. 2. Analogical thinking process was observed through trapezoid's area obtaining activity and analyzed if communication within groups has affected such process anyhow. A framework to analyze analogical thinking process was developed with reference of problem solving procedure based on analogy, suggested by Rattermann(1997). 15 from 24 students of year 5 form of N elementary school at Gunpo Uiwang, Syeonggi-do, were selected and 3 groups (group A, B and C) of students sharing the same achievement level and 2 groups (group D and E) of different level were made. The students were led to obtain areas of parallelogram and trapezoid for twice, and communication process and analogical thinking process was observed, recorded and analyzed. The results of this study are as follow: 1. The more significant mathematical communication was observed at groups sharing medium and low level of achievement than other groups. 2. Despite of individual and group differences, there is overall improvement in students' analogical thinking: activities of obtaining areas of parallelogram and trapezoid showed that discussion within subgroups could induce analogical thinking thus expand students' analogical thinking stage.

Computational thinking is generally defined as the mental skills that facilitate the design of automated processes. Computational Thinking is being considered as a critical skill for students in the 21st century. It involves many skills, but programming abilities seem to be a core aspect since they foster the development of a new way of thinking that is key to the solution of problems that require a combination of human mental power and computing power capacity. In this paper, we explore how computational thinking conception are changing. We also explore how to identify the psychological and behavioral nature of learners through SW education.

In this study, we investigated the middle school students' processes of scientific graph construction from the perspective of the problem solving process. Ten 9th graders participated in this study. They constructed a scientific graph based on pictorial data depicting precipitation reaction. The think-aloud method was used in order to investigate their thinking processes deeply. Their activities were videotaped, and semi-structured interviews were also conducted. The analysis of the results revealed that their processes of scientific graph construction could be classified into four types according to the problem solving strategy and the level of representations utilized. Students using the structural strategy succeeded in constructing scientific graph regardless of the level of representation utilized, by analyzing the data and identifying the trend based on the propositional knowledge about the target concept of the graph. Students of random strategy-higher order representation type were able to succeed in constructing scientific graph by systematically analyzing the characteristics of the data using various representations, and considering the meaning of the graph constructed in terms of the scientific context. On the other hand, students of random strategy-lower order representation type failed to construct correct scientific graph by constructing graph in a way of simply connecting points, and checking the processes of graph construction only without considering the scientific context. On the bases of the results, effective methods for improving students' ability to construct scientific graphs are discussed.

It has been recently emphasized that comprehensive understanding of students' cognitive activities in the process of writing as well as final product is needed in order to develop an effective strategy for science writing. In this study, we investigated the characteristics of writing process in the situation that students wrote a composition in solving the application problem on a science topic. Seven eighth graders selected in the consideration of their science achievement and communication skills were asked to write a composition using think-aloud method. They were also interviewed after their writing work. The analyses of the results indicated that students' writing processes consisted of six distinctive components: generating, organizing, setting, translating, evaluating, and revising. It was also found that the patterns of process components for each student were different in terms of the frequency and the sequence. The patterns of process components were categorized into four types: systematic, tacit planning, trial and error, and random strategies. Educational implications were also discussed.
Students have a hard time with a formal proof, which is one of most important part in mathematics education. They were taught the proof with algebraic visual materials using technology and specialized visual materials. But, they experienced the difficulty in justifying due to the lack of experimental recognition with the representation using technology. The specialized visual materials limited the extension of mathematics thinking of students because it worked only for the case that is fixed. In order to solve this type of problem, we made algebraic visual materials for 9th graders using technology and generalized visual materials so that students experience for themselves to help them to experience experimental justification, thus we recognized that they were improved in enhancing mathematical thinking.

As software and artificial intelligence education became more and more important, in December 2019, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced plans to expand software and AI education to mandatory education in elementary and secondary schools by 2022. In addition to elementary and secondary schools, most universities are actively engaged in software education for computer non-majors, but research on coding education for computer non-majors is insufficient. The purpose of this paper is to find an efficient teaching and learning method for coding education for computer non-majors. Nowadays, college students, called Millennial and Generation Z, prefer visual information and are familiar with computers as digital natives. Based on these characteristics, this study examined the visual literacy and thinking styles of college students and then examined whether the students' visual literacy and thinking styles influenced coding-based problem solving in coding subjects. Based on this, this paper proposes an alternative to do programming education more efficiently for students who are new to coding.
