  • In this study, the recognition of child abuse and neglect (CAN) and reporting attitudes of general dentists and pediatric dentists in Korea were estimated. A survey was conducted among dentists working at clinics or university hospitals, including interns and residents at dental hospital training institutions. The questionnaire, consisting of 32 questions and detailed questions, subdivided into 'general characteristics of respondents', 'CAN', 'CAN report', 'laws to CAN', 'countermeasures against CAN'. The survey was conducted using a messenger, and 176 respondents' answers were analyzed. The recognition of CAN showed high scores in the order of physical abuse, neglect, and emotional abuse. The positive attitude toward reporting CAN had a higher score than the negative attitude. Of the total respondents, 19 said they reported child abuse, and 18 said they were suspected of child abuse but hesitated to report it. Among the laws related to CAN, the protection measures for CAN reporters and the protocol for CAN showed low awareness. Since then, they have wanted to know how to find abused children and how to deal with them in education. This study is expected to be used as data to improve dentists' awareness and consciousness of CAN in the future.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to find out the perception on childe abuse of pre-service childcare teachers who will become the closest witnesses to child abuse, and also whether they have the proper knowledge and attitude to report abuse. Methods: Surveys were conducted at five universities in Seoul and Kyonggi-province. We investigated students from child development major, and additionally students from other majors as a comparative group. Results: The results of this study are as follows: First, pre-service childcare teachers' level of abuse severity was significantly higher than other major students. They were more aware of child abuse reporting system and reporting obligations than other major students. Second, pre-service teachers had higher intention of reporting then other major students. However, both groups barely know about child protection institution, and have negative perception on the effect of reporting. Conclusion/Implications: In conclusion, this study suggests that pre-service teachers are more aware of child abuse and willing to report than other major students, however it is necessary to increase the reliability of report effectiveness. Also, it provide implications for future policy-making related to child abuse by suggesting that information transmission and promotion through mass media is necessary and efforts should be made to reduce the risk of disclosure of the identity of the complainant in reporting abuse.

  • The study was intended to identify the factors that affect pediatric nurses' perception toward child abuse and their reporting attitude. The report rate was very low, only 3 (9.1%) of respondents. Most of them did not report, 30(90.9%), and the main causes of non-reporting were not-serious or lack of evidence. The recognition and experience of child abuse depending on the characteristics of nurses in pediatric wards showed a significant difference according to their academic background (X2=16.52, p=.011). The results of the review of the differences in the reported attitudes of child abuse nurses showed a significant difference in the age of nurses in the pediatric ward (X2=13.64, p=.034). Nurses in the pediatric ward are required to develop intervention programs and tools for assessing child abuse, and to provide education and systems for the prevention of child abuse, which will make it necessary for the universal reporting of cases against child abuse and the prevention of child abuse.

  • In order to infer whether the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes, etc. actually brought about a change in the social perception shared about child abuse in our society, we used big data to examine the change in the perception of child abuse by the public. This study selected 'child abuse' as the keyword and collected and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, before the implementation of the Special Act in 2013, the words "china" are kindergarten, teacher, body, problem, reporting obligation and neglect compared to the following. After the implementation of the special law, daycare centers, incidents, eradication, campaigns, domestic violence and preventive education were newly introduced. Second, the interconnection of key words in the previous picture of 2013 shows that the left group focuses on measures to introduce to prevent child abuse while the right group consists of keyword intended to view child abuse in conjunction with domestic violence. They are still seen as a group of divorces, discipline, neglect and parental education, which they still perceive as a family problem. Since the implementation of the Special Act in 2013, it will be divided into four groups, and the top group will be highlighted by the keyword related to child abuse cases, part of suspected cases and awareness of child abuse. In addition, the Act on the Special Cases of Child Abuse and the Child Protection Agency clearly appear as a child protection system.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between the family relationship and the awareness of child abuse of parents with elementary and middle school children. This study also examines the mediating effect of parenting stress between the family relationship and awareness of child abuse. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted to school parents living in A metropolitan area and the 389 data were used for analysis. As a result of the analysis, their child abuse awareness showed that family relationship effected their awareness of child abuse positively and on parenting stress negatively. In addition, the partial mediating effect of parenting stress was proved between the family relationship and child abuse awareness. The results of this analysis signify that the family relationship is the important independent variable and parenting stress is the main mediating variable between the two variables. According to these analysis results, this study suggested that it is necessary to enhance family relations enhancement programs, child abuse prevention manual, and various parenting support services and strengthen the function of Health Family Support Center as a delivery system of family welfare services.
