  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of child neglect and abuse by parents on school adjustment of school-aged children focusing on mediating effect of school-aged children's self-awareness and peer attachment. For this purpose, we analyzed the data of fourth wave Korean Child-Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) including parents' child neglect and abuse, school-aged children's school adjustment, self-awareness and peer attachment. A total of 2,378 children and their parents using structural equation model of mediating effects responded to the survey. Measurement model and structure model had favorable goodness of fit and the results of structure models on each path were as follows. First, school-aged children's school adaption had negative correlations with parent's child neglect and abuse, but positive correlations with their self-awareness and peer attachment. Second, parent's child neglect and abuse influenced on school-aged children's school adjustment by partial mediators, their self-awareness and peer attachment. These findings showed practical way to increase school-aged children's self-awareness and positive peer attachment.

  • This study investigated the effects and relationships of various stress, school life adjustment and happiness factors among middle school and high school adolescents. The structural model group effects between boy and girl groups were also investigated. Data was employed from the 'Korean Children and Youth Well-Being Index Survey, 2018' while subjects of the analysis included 5,144 students. Based on the education statistics data, the sample was collected by probability proportional to size. Results utilizing structural equation modeling and multigroup analysis showed that first, school stress, friend stress, and look stress had significant effects on adolescent happiness. School life adjustment had positive significant effects on adolescents' happiness. Parent stress, money stress and school stress had significant effects on school life adjustment. Second, the mediating effect of school life adjustment between stress and happiness was significant with parent, school stress, and financial stress. Third, results of the multi-group analysis by level and gender showed that the structure was similar between boys and girls, with the only differences among mediating effects. Boys had significant mediating effects by school stress, and financial stress, while girls had significant mediating effects by school stress, financial stress, and parent stress. Finally, based on the results of the study, practice and policy implications were suggested to support the promotion of adolescents' happiness.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the campus life of engineering transfer students, to devise a means for increasing their participation in the ABEEK, and to assist them to have the satisfactory campus lives through researching the satisfaction level and the campus life adaptation of transfer students. We conducted a survey targeting 193 engineering transfer students of K university and D university. The study shows that most transfer students were accepted into college through a general screening process, their grades are likely to be lower than those of the previous college, however, they tend to be satisfactory with the current campus life, and the rate of participation in the ABEEK is low. Therefore university officials need to work hard to raise the rate of the participation in the ABEEK track and the campus life adaptation of transfer students. Moreover, the male transfer students tend to be more satisfactory than the female students, and students with higher grades in the previous college are likely to show higher adaptation than those with lower grades. Therefore we should make effort to increase the satisfaction of transfer students and need to accommodate the programs for the female transfer students more positively.

  • The purpose of this study was to find the mediation effect of school adjustment between perceived parental attitude and mental health in adolescents. 544 adolescents who live in Chungbuk filled out questionnaires. Data were analyzed by regression analysis with SPSS 18.0 version. Results showed significant relationships between socio-economic variables and main variables. Female showed higher depression and suicidal ideation than male. Higher performance group perceived parental attitude more positively, showed lower level of depression and suicidal ideation, and higher level of school adjustment than lower performance group. In addition, perceived parental attitude was a predictor of adolescent' mental health. School adjustment proved to have the mediating effect on depression and suicidal ideation overall. The specific interventions are associated with the increase of professionals and prevention program with parents, and the activation of school welfare.

  • The objective of this study is to explore the structural relationships between positive parenting style, self-efficacy, stress, depression, and school adjustment of adolescents. The data in this study used from the 2010 Korea Youth Health Status Survey(N=7,187). To explore these relationships between each variable showed in this study model, structural equation modelling(SEM) was carried out by using IBM SPSS AMOS Ver. 19.0. The main findings of this study are as follows; Firstly, The positive parenting style made a positive effect on self-efficacy, and reduced the stress and depression, eventually affected school adjustment positively. Secondly, the more self-efficacy, and the less stress and depression. And the more self-efficacy, and the more school adjustment. Thirdly, as considering the indirect effect of positive parenting style on school adjustment through the mediating variable as self-efficacy, positive parenting style is more important variable than any other factors. These results implies that positive and intimate parent-children relationships or parenting attitudes on adolescents are necessary highly.

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify the mediating effect of peer relations and self-esteem in the relationship between the effects of deficiency of children using local children's centers on school life adaptation. The survey subjects were selected from 424 students in the first year of middle school who were used the local children's center, and analyzed using data from the 4th of the local children's center. Summarizing the analysis results, peer relationships were found to have a complete mediating effect in the relationship between deficiency and school life adaptation. Second, it was verified that self-esteem has a partial mediating effect in the relationship between deficiency and school life adaptation. Children using local children's centers experience deficiencies in various areas of society, but as can be seen from the results of this study, it was suggested that they can help adapt to school life by promoting self-esteem and peer relationships. Therefore, we would like to propose the development of programs and practical implications for promoting children's adaptation to school life, and the expansion of the field of children's research using local children's centers.

  • The purposes of this study were to concretely reveal the effect of the parents' child-rearing attitude perceived by adolescents and the school life adaptation on the problem behavior, and to verify the moderating effect of the ego-resilience on the relationship between the parents' child-rearing attitude and the school life adaptation and the adolescent problem behavior. This study analyzed a total of 2,107 students in the first year of high school, which was the 4th year data(2013) of Korea Children Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) 2010. The reliability, descriptive statistics, t-test, and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted using SPSS WIN 22.0. The results were as follows. First, the effect of the parents' child-rearing attitude(supervision, affection, reasonable explanation, excessive interference, excessive expectation, and inconsistency), school life adaptation(relationship with teacher, relationship with friend, school regulation, and learning activity), and ego-resilience on the adolescent problem behavior was analyzed. As a result, the relationship with friend(-) had the highest influence on the adolescent problem behavior, followed by learning activity(-), inconsistency(+), ego-resilience(-), excessive interference(+), and supervision(-). However, the remaining sub-variables did not have any significant influence on the adolescent problem behavior. Second, the moderating effect of the ego-resilience on the relationship among the parents' child-rearing attitude, adaptation to school life, and adolescent problem behavior. The ego-resilience was found to moderate the effects of parents' positive child-rearing attitude, interpersonal relationships, and school adaptation on the adolescent problem behavior. However, the moderating effect was not significant for the effect of negative child-rearing attitude on the adolescent problem behavior. Therefore, various ego-resilience enhancement programs need to be developed and researched as a part of the safety education through the home economics class.

  • Most of elementary school students possess computers at home, and learn about ICT in their school. But the extreme use of computer games may have negative effects on students' learning and life style. In this research, we analyzed the current status of 5th and 6th graders' computer game addiction in Daejeon, ChoongchungNam-Do and ChoongchungBuk-Do areas. And we have also investigated the relationship of students' computer game addiction with their self control abilities and the abilities to adjust to their school life. As the results of the research, we discovered that 15.6% of respondents showed strong possibilities of computer game addiction. Boys, students living in rural areas and students with relatively low grade showed strong possibilities of game addiction. In addition, it was found that as students showed high scores in their self control abilities and the abilities to adjust to school life, they demonstrated less possibilities to be addicted to computer games.

  • This study has attempted to investigate correlations among variables against 366 college students from cosmetology-related departments in Busan and figure out the effects of the variables which have an effect on adaptation to college life. First, in terms of 'college life stress', a positive correlation was observed with 'depression' while a negative correlation was found with 'adaptation to college life'. As 'social support' increased, 'self-efficacy' and 'adaptation to college life' were high as well. However, 'depression' was low. On the contrary, 'self-efficacy' revealed a negative correlation with 'depression' but a positive correlation with 'adaptation to college life'. Second, as peer support and professor support increased, and academic performance and value-related problems and depression decreased, 'adaptation to college life' was satisfying. Third, in terms of the effect of 'adaptation to academic achievements', 'academic matters' was the highest. In terms of the effect of social adaptation, 'peer support' was the highest. In terms of the effect of emotional and physical adaptations, 'depression' was the highest. In terms of the effect of attachment to college, 'professor issues' were the highest.
