Scirpus planiculmis dominated in Nakdong river estuary is known as food for birds visiting to Nakdong river estuary and plays an important role in material cycle and food web, while repeating growth and production, decomposition process in 1-year interval. Therefore, if it is able to predict effectively biomass or tuber production of Scirpus planiculmis which is food source for estuarine organisms or birds, it can provide very useful information on the Nakdong river estuary management. In this study, regression equation that can predict the tuber production, food for birds, was obtained using initial density of Scirpus planiculmis that can minimize the disturbance of ecosystem and is faster and easier. The correlation analysis results show that density, biomass and tuber production have liner relationship(p<0.001) with 0.6103~0.9950 of correlation coefficients. In addition, the regression equations have high coefficients of determination of 0.3696~0.7145 and it shows that it is able to predict biomass or tuber production while using the estimated regression equation obtained from relationship among the initial density, biomass and tuber production. The results of this study are expected to utilize effectively the management of estuary ecosystem such as management on food source for migratory birds visiting to Nakdong river estuary.

The five halophytes was investigate on the maintenance community mechanism in the Mankyung river estuary salt marsh from Feb. 2005 to Sep. This study showed in the germination period, maximum germination rate, the standing biomass, length growth of stem and root in the five halophytes(Suaeda japonica, Salicornia herbacda, Aster tripolium, Atriplex gmelini and Suaeda asparagoides). These result suggested that maintenance mechanism of halphytes, Suaeda japonica was distributed in the low tidal marsh, Salicornia herbacda, Aster tripolium, Atriplex gmelini in the mid tidal marsh and Suaeda asparagoides in the high tidal marsh.
In this study, hydraulic flood routing is performed by 1-Di. unsteady flow model, FLDWAV on the downstream of Nakdong river. For input information, KOWACO Rainfall-Runoff Model is used and resonable boundary condition is constructed. As the result of the application about the past flood event, good agreement of comparison with observed and calculated values are show in the interesting sites, Jindong and Samrangjin. Additionally, estuary barrage's WSL evaluation procedure is enhanced to accurate calculation, and it is defined by downstream boundary condition in Nakdiong river. The new regressive equation to calculate the predicted tide value is developed by considering the astronomical tide and past observed tide value at Nakdong estuary barrage. The guideline's construction of the new application and flood forecasing system of other river basins is possible by using this studied results.

In this study, virtual confluence of $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$ type flowing into main channel was designed to comprehend occlusion phenomenon of the mouth of river, then performed numerical analysis using the RMA-2 and SED2D model of SMS according to application of 40m, 60m, 80m, 100m Training levee corresponding to main channel width ratio. Results of simulations analysis are summarized as follows. Applying appropriate Training levee length determined by numerical analysis results, Training levee dimension for occlusion reduction was studied through the analysis of velocity, water level, bed variation at the Gamchen confluence and Wichen confluence.
The estuarine area of the ecological environment had been seriously damaged by reckless developments during the past half century. The demand for management in estuarine area increased but the efficient management system did not exist. Therefore the aim of this study is to develop a GIS-based integrated DB management system by integrating the ecological environmental data of each division in estuarine area. To achieve this, the system used integrated DB. It is classified into a surveyed monitoring DB in 2010 at estuarine area of Yeongsan and GIS DB to express the spatial data. The integrated DB management system was developed using VisualBasic.NET languages and Arcobjects component for Map-based spatial analysis. Also, to improve the utilization of data, the composition of GUI(Graphical User Interface) through user needs analysis, the expression of monitoring DB, the priority of layer and the function for modular unit were defined. Ultimately the system was developed based on the defined items. GIS-based integrated DB management system can support to understand the ecological environment in estuarine area of Yeongsan river. Also it will provide the users with effective sharing and environmental management of the data. In the future study, comprehensive diagnosis for ecological environment in estuarine area and the reliable prediction need to be made by connecting modeling system.
The government has recently carried out monitoring to attain a better understanding of the current situation and model for prediction of future events pertaining to water quality in the estuarine area of Yeongsan River. But many users have noted difficulties to understand and utilize the results because most monitoring and model data consist of figures and text. The aim of this study is to develop a GIS-based integrated information system to support the understanding of the current situation and prediction of future events about water quality in the estuarine area of Yeongsan River. To achieve this, a monitoring DB is assembled, a linkages model is defined, a GUI is composed, and the system development environment and system composition are defined. The monitoring data consisted of observation data from 2010 ~ 2012 in the estuarine area of Yeongsan River. The models used in the study are HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program-Fortran) for simulation of the basin and EFDC (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) for simulation of the estuary and river. Ultimately, a GIS based system was presented for utilization and expression using monitoring and model data. The system supports prediction of the estuarine area ecological environment quantitatively and displays document type model simulation results in a map-based environment to enhance the user's spatial understanding. In future study, the system will be updated to include a decision making support system that is capable of handling estuary environment issues and support environmental assessment and development of related policies.
Water quality and ecological environment in the Han River estuary was analyzed using the longterm water quality monitoring data from National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) and the existing data collected in this area. Based on the salinity distribution and changes of current direction in the lower Han River and its estuary, boundaries of the estuary were identified and also, distribution patterns of the phyto- and zooplankton, benthos, ichthyoplankton and fish were discussed related with the salinity changes in the macrotidal subestuary of Han River. Seasonal and spatial distribution of salinity suggested that the direct impact of freshwater be limited to the Incheon North Harbour all the year round and even extended to the southern area of Gyunggi Bay near Palmi island during limited time, usually in summer. Upper limit of salt water intrusion through the Han River is likely to be Singok underwater dam located Gimpo, Gyunggi Province, and normally limited to much lower part of the river, Jeonryuri, Gimpo. Biological boundaries of the Han River estuary exceeded the physical boundaries based on the salinity distribution. Many estuarine species in plankton and fish were found at the totally freshwater or saltwater depending on the seasons and tidal cycles. Some estuarine ichthyoplanktons showed extremely limited distributions in the estuary whereas adult fish revealed wide ranges of salinity adaptation. Critical environmental issues in the Han River estuary and its drainage basin are likely to be 1) pressure on development-promoted district for new town in the drainage area of the estuary, 2) reduction of tidal flat by reclamation, 3) pollutant input through river from municipal sewages and industrial wastes, and 4) ecological barrier between river and terrestrial systems by the military wire fence and riverside road.
Changes of soil properties due to sedimentation and erosion in the river estuary may lead changes in environmental factors that affect plant growth and distribution, Then habitats in the river estuary that provide various ecological functions can also be influenced. Topsoil samples were analyzed in order to understand the soil properties of important barrier islands and habitat types in the Nakdong river estuary. The samples were obtained from Phragmites communis and Scirpus planiculmis habitats, the tidal flats in the southern area of Eulsukdo, and in Mangeummerydeung, Baekhapdeung, and Doyodeung. Analyses results showed that bulk density, pH, organic matter content and total nitrogen concentration which were directly or indirectly affected by vegetation showed significant difference (p<0.05) with habitat types but no differences in water content and oxidation reduction potential which could be affected by soil texture and showed significant difference among barrier islands. Results suggested that soil properties on barrier islands in the Nakdong river estuary were influenced first by geomorphic changes due to sedimentation and erosion, and then by the presence or type of vegetation. A range of physical and chemical properties were analyzed; soil water content and bulk density (physical properties), and organic content and pH (chemical properties) were correlated with seven other soil properties, at a level of significance higher than 90%. These aspects played an important role in determining overall soil properties in the studied area.

This study aims to draw the limitations of wetland restoration related legal systems of ASEAN+3 countries and suggest the improvements. In the case of Korea, there is no integrated law or integrated management organization for wetland restoration, and the legal basis for estuaries restoration is insufficient. As many ASEAN countries depend on wetlands for their livelihood, public support for sustainable use and conservation of wetlands should be preceded through raising awareness about the value of wetlands. Some countries need to establish a specific wetland definition, while developing countries need to strengthen national capacities through international cooperation. A legal basis is needed to eliminate the impacts on peatlands and mangrove forests and conserve them.
