  • The MAU series has been usually used for the fishing vessel's propeller, which has been improved in consideration of the efficiency as well as the cavitation point of view in Pusan National University. The high efficiency standard series propeller(KF series) has been applied to the design of 52ton class fishing vessel's propeller in the previous study. The experimental study for the performance of the design propellers called KF series for 52 ton class fishing vessel has been conducted with five cases in Korea Ocean Research & Development Institute towing tank. The model tests have been carried out at different pitch ratio and expanded area ratio in comparison with the standard propeller to make the series chart. The KF series chart and the formula for performance expression have been completed on the basis of the experiment result.

  • In the present study, the model-scale Propeller Open Water (POW) tests for the propeller of 176K bulk carrier and 8600TEU container ship were conducted through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. In order to solve the incompressible viscous flow field, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RaNS) equations were employed as the governing equations. The γ-Reθ(gamma-Re-theta) transition model combined with the SST k-ωturbulence model was introduced to describe the laminar-turbulence transition considering the low Reynolds number of model-scale. Firstly, the flow simulation developing over a flat plate was performed to verify the transition modeling, in which the wall shear stresses were compared with experiments and other numerical results. Then, to investigate the effect of the model, the CFD simulation for the POW test was performed and the simulated propeller performance was validated through comparison with the experiment conducted at Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO).

  • The endurance of the multi-copter is one of the important variables that determine the mission performance. Therefore, accurate endurance should be defined as essential for performing effective missions. In this paper, we present the results of the study on the flight performance of the aircraft, especially the hovering of the drone(multi-copter). Unlike conventional aircraft, which consider aerodynamic performance by the fuselage, the multi-copter is mostly determined by the propulsion system. Therefore, the research method classifies the various parts constituting the drone system into functions, analyzes the performance of the unit parts and obtains the experimental data by sorting out the specifications and functions at the component level and mathematical formulation, The results of this study are as follows. In addition, the 5kg class quad copter was used to predict and verify the voltage change with endurance through analysis of in situ flight. By predicting endurance under various conditions, it can help design/build the right Multi-copter for mission.

  • In Korea, tuna purse seine fishery is the industry with the highest production volume in domestic deep-sea fishery. Research has been continuously carried out since the late 1980s, and research on modernization of technology has been actively conducted. However, while auxiliary works boats on the fishing vessels play an important role in the purse seine fishing, related research is not sufficient. In this study, we tried to rebuild the propulsion system of the Net-boat from the propeller to the waterjet type and to perform the hull form conversion to improve the resistance performance of the hull part and improve the motion performance. For this, we calculated the change of the fluid performance of the ship through computational numerical analysis. In addition, towing tank tests were carried out to verify the performance of the existing ship and the ship which changed the propulsion system. As a result, resistance performance of the waterjet type compared to the propeller type was improved by approximately 45 %. It was confirmed that this was due to reduction of the wetted surface area by removing net and improvements in hull form.

  • The very erosive cavitation is simulated by an inclined propeller dynamometer in the medium-size cavitation tunnel of MOERI. The inclined shaft for propeller makes strong cavitaion, which occurs around the root of a propeller blade. The cavitation begins at the leading edge of the propeller and contracted toward the trailing edge through the reentrant jet action. The cavity focused on the region near the trailing edge collapsed over the blade surface. As the impact pressure by the cavitation collapsing is too strong, it can damage the blade surface in the form of pit. This cavitation impacts created by the collapsing process are similar to the full-scale ones and are different from those by other erosion test methods. The newly developed cavitation erosion test method can be applied to evaluate the materials such as metals, ceramics and coatings in terms of cavitation resistance.

  • The aim of study is to develop a dual driven ship berthing/deberthing system with $360^{\circ}$ steerability. A large ship used bow thruster, side thruster and pod propulsor etc. when approaching to a pier. But as marine leisure boats become large-scaled, the number of accidents is recently increasing what caused a ship to crash into a ship and a ship to crash into mooring facilities during berthing/deberthing on a marina. To solve the problem, the control responsiveness of a joystick connected with two motors and a propeller was checked and torque was increased by the electromagnetic design of magnetic gear. A sea trial test was carried out to investigate a performance of the developed system in the real sea.

  • In Korea, much research and development have occurred to enhance the technological competitiveness of tuna purse seining fisheries. Due to these efforts, fishing efficiency has been improved with the development of radar, sonar and global positioning systems for fish detection and revisions to the hull forms of tuna purse seiners. However, for skiff boats, net boats and speed boats, which are auxiliary working boats mounted on tuna purse seiners, technology has lagged behind relative to the modernization of the main vessel. In this study, the hull of an existing propeller-based net boat with steel wire net to protect tuna was changed to the hull of a water jet propulsion vehicle to reduce resistance and improve maneuverability. As a result, a prototype of a water jet propulsion option was produced according to the aluminum structure strength standards specified by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and safety was confirmed by performing a drop test. Moreover, through a sea trial test, an existing net boat was shown to have a speed of 12.0knots and a towing force of 2,545 kgf at 2,500 RPM. The prototype had a speed of 26.7 knots and a towing force of 2,011 kgf at 3,200 RPM, which satisfied the towing capacity standards of auxiliary working boats mounted on tuna purse seiners.
