  • This study examined the composition and spatial characteristics of the Illinois Institute of Technology (1939-1959) campus by Mies van der Rohe. Studies of the Mies' architecture has been focused mostly on "universal space", structural rationality for a single building. Therefore, it is interesting to study an IIT campus through which Mies composed public space dealing with several buildings together. To determine the relationships with his previous works and the design intentions for IIT campus, this paper studied his preliminary sketches, perspective drawings etc.. By doing so, the paper presents the following conclusions. First, Mies composed the IIT campus with simple linear buildings as walls to create the "flowing space" through the campus. Secondly, the IIT campus could become the "neutral frame" integrating the campus with urban space. Third, Mies also created an open, continuous public space in the center of the campus that allows protective, quiet seclusion for the students.

  • In this paper, we present an implementation and it's real-sea test of an underwater acoustic data communication system, which allows the system to reduce complexity and increase robustness in time variant underwater environments. For easy adaptation to complicated and time-varying environments of the ocean, all-digital transmitter and receiver systems were implemented. For frame synchronization the CAZAC sequence was used, and QPSK modulation/ demodulation method with carrier frequency of 25kHz and a bandwidth of 5kHz were applied to generate 10kbps transmission rate including overhead. To improve transmission quality, we used several techniques and algorithms such as adaptive beamforming, adaptive equalizer, and convolution coding/Viterbi decoding. for the verification of the system performance, measurement of BER has been done in a very shallow water with depth of 8m at JangMok, Geoje. During the experiment, image data were successfully transmitted up to about 7.4km.

  • Detecting and understanding the changes between RDF data is crucial in the evolutionary process, synchronization system, and versioning system on the web of data. However, current researches on detecting changes still remain unsatisfactory in that they did neither consider the large scale of RDF data nor accurately produce the RDF deltas. In this paper, we propose a scalable and effective change detection using a MapReduce framework which has been used in many fields to process and analyze large volumes of data. In particular, we focus on the structure-based change detection that adopts a strategy for the comparison of blank nodes in RDF data. To achieve this, we employ a method which is composed of two MapReduce jobs. First job partitions the triples with blank nodes by grouping each triple with the same blank node ID and then computes the incoming path to the blank node. Second job partitions the triples with the same path and matchs blank nodes with the Hungarian method. In experiments, we show that our approach is more accurate and effective than the previous approach.

  • In this paper we propose an effective feature compensation scheme based on the speech model in order to achieve robust speech recognition. The proposed feature compensation method is based on parallel combined mixture model (PCMM). The previous PCMM works require a highly sophisticated procedure for estimation of the combined mixture model in order to reflect the time-varying noisy conditions at every utterance. The proposed schemes can cope with the time-varying background noise by employing the interpolation method of the multiple mixture models. We apply the‘data-driven’method to PCMM tot move reliable model combination and introduce a frame-synched version for estimation of environments posteriori. In order to reduce the computational complexity due to multiple models, we propose a technique for mixture sharing. The statistically similar Gaussian components are selected and the smoothed versions are generated for sharing. The performance is examined over Aurora 2.0 and speech corpus recorded while car-driving. The experimental results indicate that the proposed schemes are effective in realizing robust speech recognition and reducing the computational complexities under both simulated environments and real-life conditions.

  • In IEEE 802.11b wireless network, stations synchronize themselves to the beacons periodically sent by the access point(AP) when they are running in low power mode. In case of missing beacon due to noise or traffic from neighboring wireless network stations must be awake until they get the next beacon, which causes energy consumption in stations. In this paper, we propose a scheme searching next beacon consuming little energy. The problems of missing beacon in low power mode of IEEE 802.11b wireless interface are described and a new method to reduce energy consumption is proposed. The proposed method is simulated with the network simulator, ns2, and compared with the low power mode of the IEEE 802.11b. The result measured in terms of station's wakeup time shows some enhancement in energy consumption when some errors occur in receiving frames.

  • We propose a 3D modeling method for surface inspection of non-constant velocity moving object. 1'lie laser lines reflect tile surface curvature. We can acquire 3D surface information by analyzing projected laser lines on object. In this paper, we use multi-line laser to improve the single stripe method and high speed of single frame. Binarization and edge extraction of frame image were proposed for robust laser each line extraction. A new labeling method was used for laser line labeling. We acquired some feature points for image matching from the frame data and juxtaposed the frames data to obtain a 3D shape image. We verified the superiority of proposed method by applying it to inspect container's damages.

  • Live cinema theatre is the latest installment of multimedia show where the filming of the performance of dramatic texts becomes the live stage event. Here, the actors perform before the camera and all the audio-visual effects are produced and constructed live. Mediated through the camera and projection screen, the stage image becomes a real-time production situation where all the scenes are put together right in front of a live audience. The very concept of live cinema as dramatic theatre has been developed by English stage director Katie Mitchell who attempts to present the stage as a cohesive representation system; this is more than a provisional experimentation where the ever-changing notion of in-betweenness is constantly tested. It is rather a predetermined operational system where the relationship between cinema and theatre is governed by the logic of synchrony, therefore maintain their own individual institutional reality. Here, the presence of camera has an effect not only on the organization of stage but also an affect on how human body exists within the situation.

  • The line-telemetry data processing system is necessary for monitoring the status of each onboard systems of KSLV-I upper stage during the ground tests and launch preparation. The mission of line-telemetry system is to provide reference telemetry data and to monitor the status of upper stage. The line-telemetry data processing system consists of a PCM acquisition/processing server, a system management server, and 9 monitoring consoles. In this paper, we will describe the overview of onboard remote measurement system, the design of the line-telemetry data processing system, anomaly setup information for indicating alarm signal in case of abnormal occurrence, and the result of the ground test and flight test.

  • A structure which transmits and receives 3 subscribers packet data through an optical splitter node in an optical subscriber network of PON wave suggested and realized. All the functions which are necessary to use PON structure such as 155.52Mb/s multiplexer/demultiplexer of down-stream signal, 25.92Mb/s multiplexer/demultiplexer of up-stream signal, frame synchronizer, and phase aligner for aligning phase of the clock and received data have been integrated within 2 ICs using CMOS technonology. TDMAtechnology was suggested for up-stream transmission. In the optical up-stream transmission of the urst signals transmissionquality degradataion by APC and AGC of optical tranceiver was observed. By compensating the degradation, more than 17dB of link budget which is enough to satisfy 11.2dBthat is required in SWAN of PON architecture has been obtained with optical transceiver whose power and sensitivity are -17dBm and -34dBm respectively.

  • In order to efficiently provide IP based Wireless Broadband services in Mobile WiMAX, schemes for more efficiently utilizing a limited bandwidth in radio links are needed. Robust Header Compression (ROHC), a standard header compression scheme proposed by IETF, Bi-directional Optimistic (O) mode provides higher compression efficiency and robustness compared with Payload Header Suppression (PHS) which is an optional header compression scheme for mobile WiMAX [1, 2]. However, if consecutive packet losses occur because of a Shadow Region of Mobile WiMAX or bit errors, header decompression failure rate of the ROHC O mode increases due to inconsistency of the compression information between the Compressor and the Decompressor. Therefore, a complementary mechanism is needed. In this paper, we propose an approach for the dynamic adjustment of an optimistic parameter, which has an effect on both the compression efficiency and the robustness, for improving the performance of ROHC O mode. We also analyze the performance of the proposed approach using an OPNET simulator.
