  • For the actors on video, facial expression acting can easily become 'forced facial expression' or 'over-acting'. Also, if self-restraint is emphasized too much, then it becomes 'flat acting' with insufficient emotions. By bringing forth questions in regard to such facial expression acting methods, this study analyzed the facial expression acting of the actors in genre dramas with strong commercial aspects. In conclusion, the facial expression acting methods of the actors in genre dramas were being conducted in a typical way. This means that in visual conventions of video acting, the aesthetic standard has become the important standard in the facial expression acting of the actors. In genre dramas, the emotions of the characters are often revealed in close-up shots. Within the close-up shot, the most important expressive medium in a 'zoomed-in face' is the 'pupil of the eye', and emotions are mostly expressed through the movements of the eye and muscles around it. The second most important expressive medium is the 'mouth'. The differences in the degree of opening and closing the mouth convey diverse emotions along with the expression of the 'eye'. In addition, tensions in the facial muscles greatly hinder the expression of emotions, and the movement of facial muscles must be minimized to prevent excessive wrinkles from forming on the surface of the face. Facial expressions are not completed just with the movement of the muscles. Ultimately, the movement of the muscle is the result of emotions. Facial expression acting takes place after having emotional feelings. For this, the actor needs to go through the process of 'personalization' of a character, such as 'emotional memory', 'concentration' and 'relaxation' which are psychological acting techniques of Stanislavsky. Also, the characteristics of close-up shots that visually reveal the 'inner world' should be recognized. In addition, it was discovered that the facial expression acting is the reaction acting that provides the important point in the unfolding of narratives, and that the method of facial expression and the size of the shots required for the actors are different depending on the roles of main and supporting characters.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for Facial Characteristic Point(FCP) extraction. The FCP plays an important role in expression representation for face animation, avatar mimic or facial expression recognition. Conventional algorithms extract the FCP with an expensive motion capture device or by using markers, which give an inconvenience or a psychological load to experimental person. However, the proposed algorithm solves the problems by using only image processing. For the efficient FCP extraction, we analyze and improve the conventional algorithms detecting facial components, which are basis of the FCP extraction.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithm of real time facial expression and gesture recognition for image sequence on the gray level. A mixture algorithm of a template matching and knowledge based geometrical consideration of a face were adapted to locate the face area in input image. And optical flow method applied on the area to recognize facial expressions. Also, we suggest hand area detection algorithm form a background image by analyzing entropy in an image. With modified hand area detection algorithm, it was possible to recognize hand gestures from it. As a results, the experiments showed that the suggested algorithm was good at recognizing one's facial expression and hand gesture by detecting a dominant motion area on images without getting any limits from the background image.

  • Facial expression recognition has long been established as a subject of continuous research in various fields. In this paper, the relationship between each landmark is analyzed using the features obtained by calculating the distance between the facial landmarks in the image, and five facial expressions are classified. We increased data and label reliability based on our labeling work with multiple observers. In addition, faces were recognized from the original data and landmark coordinates were extracted and used as features. A genetic algorithm was used to select features that are relatively more helpful for classification. We performed facial recognition classification and analysis with the method proposed in this paper, which shows the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This study aimes at understanding the factors influencing poistion-determination by investigating the propagation of errors developed during orientation work in three-dimmensional coordinates of the aerial photograph. This paper treats the comparison and analysis of phopagation of errors due to computing orientation requited for the analysis of the absolute coordinate from the image coordinates of photograph.

  • New image coding system for facial images called 'Knowledge-based image coding' is described, in which input image is analyzed and output image is synthesized using analysis results. Analysis and synthesis method of facial expressions are presented. Synthesis rules are determined on the basis of facial muscles and are also used in analysis process to produce a faithful reconstruction of the original image. A number of examples are shown.

  • As for comics and animation, the specific gravity came to become still larger in all the art fields together with the importance in various image media now which is useful and goes the time of the 21st century new media. Especially the demand of users to the vision culture which develops day by day, Sensitivity Engineering Department is trying to realize the necessity for a sensitivity design acutely together. The influence of the comics which have toxicity most also in Japanese culture in a geographical position like South Korea on it, and animation is the actual condition in the reason which has reached from youth universally to the layer for years, to be inquired systematic to a Korean comics language. This reserch was conducted as we thought sufficient study on various situations are required, and among them, for the reserch of expressions of cartoons's characters, we've divided the expressions of characters that comes out in Japanese cartoons into catagories of "happiness, anger, sadness, pleasure" and "fear, astonishment and dislike" and based on these catagories, we've drawn out the minimum elements to express emotions in cartoon and prepared image-map by relating them with languages that express emotions of people and based on this, we've made a calculating tools on how our readers would read the expression languages. Samples of Japanese cartoons of which we've chosen for the purpose of drawing out the elements of expressions were limited to only published cartoons and we've made a foot steps for expression analysis of animation characters in the future.

  • With the advent of the "age of video" due to the simplification of video content production and the convenience of broadcasting channel operation, review videos on various products are drawing attention. We proposes RASIA, an integrated reliability analysis system based on verbal and nonverbal sentiment analysis of review videos. RASIA extracts and quantifies each emotional value obtained through language sentiment analysis and facial analysis of the reviewer in the video. Subsequently, we conduct an integrated reliability analysis of standardized verbal and nonverbal sentimental values. RASIA provide an new objective indicator to evaluate the reliability of the review video.
