Optimal conditions for preparing of chitooligosaccharides from chitosan with cellulase was researched by response surface methodo-logy, Penicillium funiculosum derived cellulase was most effective for chitooligosaccharides production as the point of hydrolyzing activity and commercial utility. The result which measures the change of degrading ratio at time course, 10 hr reaction showed a exponential increase and after that time degrading ratio was not changed. The optimal conditions determined by response surface methodology with central composite design of total 26 species were $0.5\%$ of chitosan, 143 U enzyme, 49$^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature, 13.2 hr of reaction time and pH 3.8. Major chitooligosaccharides produced from chitiosan on optimal conditions were dimer and trimer.

The immobilization of the hydroxylamine-oxidoreductase on the water channel surface was performed to investigate the efficacy of ammonia removal in turbulent flow. The reaction by this enzyme proceeds rapidly by converting hydroxylamine into nitrous acid. For the analysis of the effect, a dimensionless mass transfer governing equation was established with the physical properties based on room temperature. The ammonia diffusion coefficient in water and the kinematic viscosity coefficient of water were 2.45×10-9 ㎡/s and 1×10-6 ㎡/s, respectively. The distribution of ammonia concentration in the water was calculated with respect to the distance from the point at which exposure to ammonia began. The quantitative distribution with respect to the mixing depth was also found. Such a quantitative analysis can provide insight into whether the enzyme immobilized on the water channel surface can be effectively used for ammonia removal.

De -icing salts have been used commonly in areas where snow or ice is a seasonal safety hazard for roadway, however, the salts is one of main causes on serious deterioration of road infrastructures in crowded urban city like Seoul. In order to establish maintenance strategy of road infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, it is necessary to examine environmental characteristics and its response to the existing facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the deterioration environment of road infrastructures. Additional purpose is to develop a design model and details for durability design of infrastructures under de-icing salts laden environment, considering mainly a build-up rate of surface chlorides. Concentration of external chloride solution and surface chloride content were calculated at the level of average de-icing salts for 5 years, ratio of auxiliary road of 17.5 to 30%, and effective exposure area to snow 50 to 80%. The chloride build-up rate was 0.073 ~ 0.077% / year and the maximum surface chloride content was calculated to be 2.2 ~ 2.31% by concrete wt. This study is expected to be used for establishing integrated strategy of road infrastructures, such as predicting chloride profiles or degree of chemical corrosion to exposure concrete.
In this work, we developed a Nafion polymer-coated impedance sensor with two gold electrode configurations to measure the ion concentration in solution samples. The gold electrodes were fabricated through the sputtering process, followed by surface modification using Nafion polymer. The resulting sensors enable the prevention of the polarization phenomenon on the electrode surface, resulting in stable measurement of electrochemical signals. Spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy measurements revealed that the thin film of Nafion was coated uniformly onto the surface of the gold electrode. The Nafion-coated sensor exhibited more stable impedance signals than the conventional gold electrode. It showed a highly reliable calibration curve (R2 = 0.983) of the impedance sensor using a standard sodium chloride solution. In addition, a comparison experiment between the impedance sensor and a commercial conductivity sensor was performed to measure the ion concentration of artificial tears, showing similar results for the two sensors.
Previous artificial latent fingerprint solution has shown unsatisfactory results. Therefore, in this study, we developed an artificial latent fingerprint solution close to the actual fingerprint composition by improving the lipid composition. We mixed lipid solution with amino acid solution at v/v ratios as follows: 2:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:8, 1:10, 1:20. We then dropped the same amount of each proportion of artificial latent fingerprint solution on porous paper and non-porous slide glass. Subsequently, each sample was treated with Oil red O, Cyanoacrylate fuming and Basic yellow 40 staining. As the concentration of lipids decreased, the output also decreased. Both types of surfaces and all concentrations were visually confirmed very well. In addition, the reactivity to lipids was significantly higher compared to the previous artificial latent fingerprint solution. Furthermore, for the quantitative evaluation, it is necessary to conduct additional research on the printing of the artificial latent fingerprint solution.
The highly porous cellulosic aerogels were prepared by freeze-drying method using sodium hydroxide-urea aqueous solution in the process of dissolution, gelation, regeneration and organic solvent substitution. The structural characteristics of porous aerogel were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and nitrogen adsorption apparatus. As a result, the dissolving pulp was completely dissolved, but filter papers and holocellulose were divided into two layers (dissolved and undissolved parts) in the process of centrifugation. The structure of aerogel from dissolved pulp showed porous pores in the surface and net-shaped network in the inner part. Aerogels from filter paper and holocellulose had the condensed porous network surface and the open-pore nano-fibril network inner structure. Undissolved form of fibers was observed in the aqueous solution of aerogel from holocellulose. The BET value ($S_{BET}$) of aerogel from dissolved pulp was ranged in 260~326 $m^2/g$, and it was decreased with the increase of concentration. Whereas, the $S_{BET}$ value of aerogel from filter paper (198~418 $m^2/g$) was increased with the increase of concentration. The $S_{BET}$ value of aerogel from holocellulose were 137 $m^2/g$ at 2% (w/w) of cellulose, and it was increased to maximum 401 $m^2/g$ at 4% (w/w) of cellulose. Then, it was decreased at 5% (w/w) of cellulose.
The statistical modeling was introduced to satisfy various experimental conditions on the sorption of heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cd, and Zn) by clay minerals, i.e. kaolinite, illite and chlorite. The Box-Behnken model designed statistically was applied to determine a relative impact among three variables such as pH, HCO3(or K) concentration and initial concentration of heavy metals. The SAS program was used to obtain the statistical solution by surface response analysis. The results of a statistical sorption modelling indicated that pH is a strong impact of the variables influencing the sorption of heavy metals. A relative effect between an initial concentration of heavy metals and bicarbonate(or K) concentration is dependent on solution condition. The sorption edge of heavy metals as function of pH shows sigmoidal curve, and a great increase in the range of pH 6~8. The sorption sequence among heavy metals is Cu>Pb>>Zn>Cd. The solution chemistry exerts greater influence on the sorption of heavy metals rather than the crystal chemistry of clay minerals. The potassium exerts some effect into a sorption competition with heavy metals. The research suggests that the statistical modeling is an effective method to demonstrate sorption results in three dimension and to reduce the effort of batch sorption experiment.

This study evaluated the degradation efficiency of malodorous sulfurized-organic compounds by utilizing N- and Sdoped titanium dioxide under visible-light irradiation, and examined the catalyst deactivation and regeneration. Catalyst surface was characterized by employing Fourier-Transform-Infrared-Red (FTIR) spectra. The visible-light-driven photocatalysis techniques were able to efficiently degrade low-level dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) with degradation efficiencies exceeding 97%, whereas they were not effective regarding the removal of high-level DMS and DMDS, with degradation efficiencies of 84 and 23% within 5 hrs of photocatalytic processes. As compared with DMS, DMDS which containes one more sulfur element revealed quick catalyst deactivation. Catalyst deactivation was confirmed by the equality between input and output concentrations of DMD or DMDS, the obsevation of no $CO_2$ generation during a photocatalytic process, and the FTIR spectrum peaks related with sulfur ion compounds, which are major byproducts formed on catalyst surfaces. The mineralization efficiency of DMS at 8 ppm, which was a peak value during a photocatalytic process, was calculated as 144%, exceeding 100%. The catalyst regenerated by high-temperature calcination exhibited higher catalyst recovery efficiency (53 and 58% for DMDS and DMS, respectively) as compared with dry-air and humid-air regeneration processes. However, even the calcined method was unable to totally regenerate deactivated catalysts.

In this study, an attempt was made to produce oat protein concentrates from defatted oat groat by alkali extraction. Independent variables formulated by D-optimal design were NaOH concentration (X1, 0.005~0.06 N) for extraction and precipitation pH (X2, pH 4.0~6.0), and the dependent variable was extraction yield (Y1, %). Experimental results were analyzed by response surface methodology to determine optimized extraction conditions. Extraction yield increased both with an increase in NaOH concentration of the extraction solution and when approaching a precipitation pH of 4.9, and NaOH concentrations were a major influencing parameter. Solubility of oat protein concentrates showed a minimum value (i.e., 0.1%) at pH 5 and increased substantially at pH values in the range of ${\leq}$ pH 3 or ${\geq}$ pH 7, reaching a maximum value at pH 11 (i.e., 76%). Regression equation coincided well with the results of the experiment. Optimized extraction conditions to maximize extraction yield were 0.06 N NaOH (X1) for extraction and pH 4.7 (X2) for precipitation.
This study dyed rayon fabric using loess as a natural colorant. To obtain the optimal dyeing conditions, various dyeing conditions were examined (temperature, pH, time, and concentration). The color fastness was evaluated using standard washing and rubbing fastness tests. The results were as follows: The loess powder particle size ranged from 0.4 to $1.7{\mu}m$ with a distribution range of 1.1 to $1.4{\mu}m$, representing a fine and uniform manufactured loess powder. The loess component analysis showed a large amount of silicon dioxide and aluminum oxide. TheFT-IR spectra showed that the ammonium group in the rayon fabric produced N-H banding at $1,540cm^{-1}$. The highest K/S value for the rayon fabric was obtained when the pH was 8.0, and this value increased rapidly with a longer dyeing time and when increasing the loess concentration to 30% (w/v). Pre-treatment with a soybean solution produced the highest K/S value for the rayon fabric with a loess concentration of 30% (w/v). The SEM analysis showed a higher amount of loess adhered to the rayon fabric surface when increasing the loess concentration. However, pre-treatment with a cationic agent and soybean solution resulted in a much higher attachment of loess to the fabric surface. Thus, the experimental results showed that using a cationized fabric and pre-treatment with a soybean solution are more effective when dyeing rayon fabric with loess than when using only loess.
