Finite Element Analysis of Underground Electrical Power Cable Structures Considering the Effects of Construction Sequence (시공단계별 영향을 고려한 터널 전력구의 유한요소해석)

  • In this paper structural analysis of underground electrical power cable structures which is excavated below the surface of the earth in the downtown area is carried out considering the effect of construction sequence. There are many various life-line facilities below the surface of the earth in the downtown area. MPDAP was used for finite element analysis of underground electrical power cable structures. Three typical sections are simulated by finite element models. Unbalanced equilibrium problems may be occurred when conventional finite element procedures were used for simulation of tunnel excavation. Therefore equilibrium perturbation concept was applied to solve these problems. The effects of time-dependent deformations in advancing tunnel excavation are considered in the stages of construction sequences as using the load distribution factor. It is shown that values of maximum displacement of both soil and rock surrounding underground electrical power cable structures obtained by our numerical studies are less than allowable values.

  • In this paper, the methodology applied to the improvement of stress analyses is extended to free vibration and buckling analyses. The essence of the methodology is the Saint-Venant's principle that is applicable to beam and plate models. The principle allows one to dimensionally reduce three-dimensional elasticity problems. Thus the methodology can be employed to vibration and buckling as well as stress analysis. First, the principle is briefly revisited, and then the formations of classical beam theories are presented. To improve the predictions, the perturbed terms (unknowns) are introduced together with the warping functions that are calculated by stress equilibrium equations. The unknowns are then calculated by applying the equivalence of stress resultants (i.e., Saint-Venant's principle). As numerical examples, cantilever and simply supported beams are analytically solved. The results obtained are compared with those of the classical beam theories. It is shown that the methodology can be used to improve the predictions without introducing shear correction factors.

  • Dynamic behaviors and stability of an optical disk drive coupled with an automatic ball balancer (ABB) are analyzed by a theoretical approach. The feeding system is modeled a rigid body with six degree-of-freedom. Using Lagrange's equation, we derive the nonlinear equations of motion for a non -autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of the equilibrium positions, the monodromy matrix technique is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by the Runge -Kutta method. We also investigate the effects of the damping coefficient and the position of ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.

Using Lagrange's equation, we derive nonlinear equations of motion for a non-autonomous system with respect to the rectangular coordinate. To investigate the dynamic stability of the system in the neighborhood of equilibrium positions, the Floquet theory is applied to the perturbed equations. On the other hand, time responses are computed by an explicit time integration method. We also investigate the effects of mass center and the position of the ABB on the dynamic behaviors of the system.

  • In this study, we establish a theory for dynamic behaviors of an automatic ball balancer, analyze its dynamic characteristics, and provide its design guide line. Equations of motion are derived by using the polar coordinate system instead of the rectangular coordinate system which was previously used in other researches. After non-dimensionalization of the equations, the perturbation method is applied to locate the equilibrium positions and to obtain the linearized equations of motion around the equilibrium positions. The Eigenvalue problem is used to verify the dynamic stability around the equilibrium positions. On the other hand, the time responses are computed from the nonlinear equations of motion by using a time integration method.

  • The Pendulum Automatic Dynamic Balancer is a device to reduce the unbalanced mass of rotors. For the analysis of dynamic stability and behavior, the nonlinear equations of motion for a system including the Pendulum Balancer are derived with respect to polar coordinate by Lagrange's equations. And the perturbation method is applied to find the equilibrium positions and to obtain the linear variation equations. Based on the linearized equations, the dynamic stability of the system around the equilibrium positions is investigated by the eigenvalue problem. Furthermore, in order to confirm the stability, the time responses for the system are computed from the nonlinear equations of motion.
