Fuel spray nozzle has a critical effect on combustion characteristics. Mass flow rate and SMD(sauter mean diameter) were selected as design variables by using the experiment data of various types of duplex fuel nozzles for the swirl atomizers. The sensitivity of each design variable on the mass flow rate and SMD was analyzed and the uniformity of mass flow rate was investigated through the shape optimization of duel-orifice-type swirl atomizers. The design variables that have a little effect on the optimum design were excluded using the DOE(design of experiments) method, which enabled the optimization of sensitive design variables on mass flow rate and limit tolerance. The SMD of the research spray nozzle that was used in this study was found to be most similar to that of the calculation results using the Jasuja's SMD relationship. This study showed the specific characteristics of duel orifice type swirl atomizers and the optimization of these kinds of nozzle. This study provided the optimization design of mass flow rate and its allowable tolerance.
The electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile dissolved in N,N-dimethyl formamide (DMF) successfully produced nano-scale fibers. The processing parameters such as charged voltage, velocity of collected roller, and tip-to-collector distance (TCD) , affected the ultimate fiber size. At TCD of 5 cm, the average tiber diameter increased with increasing charged voltage because of the more aggregation between fibers due to the remaining DMF solvent on the fiber surface. But, at TCD of 9 cm, the average fiber diameter decreased as the charged voltage was increased because of complete evaporation of DMF. Also, the fiber diameter decreased with increasing the velocity of collected roller. Cross direction width (CWD) of nonwoven mat increased with decreasing the charged voltage and with increasing TCD.
This study was conducted to assess the diameter growth patterns of Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis dominant species in natural deciduous forests in Korea. The diameter growth data were collected from 83 destructively sample trees for stem analysis in Gangwon-Do region. The relationship between diameter growth and 14 tree measurements was also analyzed. The average diameter growth rate of dominant trees for both species increased until ages of 15-20 years, and exhibited generally constant trend for subsequent ages. The diameter growth rate of both species ranged from 0.09-0.83 cm/yr across the all ages. Average annual diameter growth for last 5 measurement years was 0.28 cm/yr for Quercus mongolica and 0.27cm/yr for Quercus variabilis. The observed growth rate decreased with decreasing crown class. The difference between diameter growth rates for different crown classes was only statistically significant (p<0.0001) for Quercus mongolica. Pearson correlation coefficient between the diameter growth rate decreased with relative diameter (r=0.64), relative height (r=0.61), exposed crown area (r=0.58) and total crown area (r=0.56) for Quercus mongolica. For Quercus variabilis, Pearson correlation coefficient decreased with dbh (r=0.57), crown width (r=0.55), age (r=0.39), competition index (r=-0.39), and height (r=0.35).

In this study, the correlations between flow rate, exhaust pressure, and droplet mean diameter with the shape factor of a water curtain nozzle were investigated. To analyze the flow coefficient and the distribution constant on the effects of the hydraulic diameter, five nozzles (D5W3, D5W6, D5W8, D4W6, and D7W6) were mocked up with a consideration of the internal diameter and width. The results showed that the flow coefficient increased in proportion to the constant 0.79 and 62.8 of the hydraulic diameters according to the diameter. As the nozzle width increased, the average droplet size decreased to the -0.235 exponential of the pressure. The average volume was reduced, in which the size distribution of the volume indeterminate decreased with increasing pressure for the same nozzle of the water-curtain. The distribution constants of droplet increased in proportion to the 0.258 exponential of the hydraulic diameter and 244.21. These results are expected to be useful to the design of pressure, flow meter, and average droplet size from a water curtain nozzle to predict the flow characteristics.
Bearing strength test was investigated to determine the bearing properties of domestic larix glulam according to the load direction (in parallel to grain and in perpendicular to grain), the fastener (bolt and drift-pin), and the direction of laminae. The specimen was 5 ply glulam. The diameters of fastener are 12, 16 and 20 mm. The results were as follows. 1) In according to the diameter of bolt and drift-pin, the average of maximum bearing strength in parallel to grain loading was similar to that in perpendicular to grain loading. The average of maximum bearing strength was 1.50~2.31 times higher in parallel to grain loading than in perpendicular to grain loading. The average of maximum bearing strength in parallel to grain loading was lowered by 20% with increasing the diameter from 16 mm to 20 mm, but that in perpendicular to grain loading didn't show a clear tendency. 2) The average of bearing stiffness in parallel to grain loading was the highest at 16 mm in diameter. The average of bearing stiffness is similar to the shearing stiffness in drift-pin connection with increasing diameter. 3) In parallel to grain loading, the failure mode of specimens was the splitting along the grain in decreasing diameter. The failure mode in perpendicular to grain loading was the splitting along the grain. In this case, split occured more in specimens using bolt than in those using drift-pin. 4) The 5% offset yield strength in parallel to grain loading was similar to the predicted bearing strength of KBCS, NDS. In perpendicular to grain loading, the NDS's equation can be applied to predict the bearing strength.
This study was conducted to provide fundamental information to make rational management planning in eastern seacoast forest, mainly composed of black pine (Pinus Thunbergii), Kangweon Province. Diameter distribution was estimated by the method of Weibull distribution. The results were as fallows ; 1. Average diameter in the eastern seacoast forests of Kangweon Province was 10.3cm, and the average D. B. H, of 16 study sites ranged from 6.9 to 14.6cm. 2. Parameters of the Weibull distribution were estimated in each study sites and the estimated parameters of the all study forests were a=5, b=5.6997 and c=1.4079. 3. Tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov method for the significant differences between actual and estimated diameter distribution, the result showed that estimated values were well fitted to the actual ones at 5% significance level.
Purpose: We wanted to evaluate the normal glenoid size of Koreans in their 7th and 8th decades by conducting Computed tomographic (CT) studies. Materials and Methods: The CT images were obtained from the normal scapulae of the patients (mean age: 68.8) who had humeral fracture. A display workstation version 2.0.73.315 was used to measure the scans to determine the maximal superoinferior (SI) and anteroposterior (AP) diameters of the glenoid vault. Results: The average diameters of curvature of the glenoid were 31.2 mm (range: 27 to 34 mm) in the superior-inferior direction and 26.1mm (range: 22 to 31mm) in the anterior-posterior direction. Conclusion: This study showed the normal glenoid size of Koreans and it is different from the size that the international literature reported. It should be an important factor for the treatment of fracture or in designing arthroplasty implants.
Nanoparticles with unsaturated poly(hydroxyalkanoate)s (UPHAs) biosynthesized with Pseudo-monas oleovorans were prepared by spontaneous emulsification solvent diffusion method. The influence of nanoparticle formation was investigated with various experimental parameters such as sonication conditions, sol-vent, surfactant and polymer contents, etc. The physical and chemical properties of UPHAS and its nanoparticles were characterized using $^1$H- and $\^$13/C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies, attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and gel permeation chromatography. The morphology of particles was observed using scanning electron microscope and the size and distribution of nanoparticles were measured with electrophoretic light scattering spectrophotometer. The mean diameter of particles decreased with increasing sonication amplitude and time. The addition of ethanol into UPHAS chloroform solution decreased the particle size presumably due to increased solvent diffusion into water phase. The particle size increased with increased the concentration of UPHAS solution. Under the 2-4% poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution the minimum mean diameter of particles was shown. The higher degree of hydrolysis and degree of polymerization of PVA increased the mean diameter of particles.
The objective of this study was to improve the performance of the existing individual-tree/distantindependent stand growth model in predicting the growth of Pinus koraiensis forest stands. The parameters of diameter growth and mortality prediction models were estimated using periodic annual increment (PAI) of permanent plots and the performance of the models were compared with that of the existing ones using mean anuual increment (MAI). The diameter growth model includes crown ratio, potential diameter growth and modifier to compute for competitions of trees of a stand. In deriving the mortality prediction model, the parameters were estimated based on PAI which was also estimated as the function of MAI due to the lacking of permanent plot data. The results of this study showed that the newly-estimated functions based on PAI provide more realistic patterns in diameter growth of individual trees. The new approach using PAI in mortality model seems to overcome the over-estimate problem by the MAI-based model in estimating mortality of stand trees.

We developed smartphone application and web application server to acquire and effectively manage tree measurement information. Smartphone applications can measure tree height, diameter at breast height (DBH), azimuth, altitude, slope, and positional coordinates using augmented reality (Google AR core) and motion sensors. The web application server effectively manages and stores measurement information. To evaluate the accuracy of information acquired using a smartphone, 90 Korean pine trees (Pinus koraiensis) were randomly selected from a natural mixed forest, with a total of 90 representative trees randomly collected from a natural mixed forest. Then, height and DBH were measured using a Haglof Vertex Laser Hypsometer and caliper. Comparisons of the results indicated significant results at the 95% level and a very high average correlation of 0.972 for both tree height and DBH. In terms of DBH, the average errors were 0.6745 cm and 1.0139 cm for artificial coniferous and natural mixed forests, respectively.
