Maximum-strength concrete-ailed steel square tubular columns were tested under concentric and biaxial eccentric load. Buckling length-section depth ratio $L_k/D$, magnitude of eccentricity e, and angle of eccentric load ${\theta}$ were selected as experimental parameters. Strength and behavior were also examined. Test results showed that the maximum strength of columns under biaxial eccentric load could be predicted using the previously proposed strength formula of columns under uniaxial eccentric load. Likewise, the behavior and maximum strength of columns could be predicted using the analysis.
In a previous research performed by the authors, the allowable compressive stress coefficient (K) in pretensioned members with rectangular section at transfer was proposed based on strength design theory. In this study, a subsequent research of an enormous analysis was performed to determine the K factor for Tee and inverted Tee section members, considering the effect of section height (h), section type, amount of tendons ($A_{ps}$), and eccentricity ratio (e/h). Based on the analysis results, the allowable compressive stress coefficients (K) for Tee and inverted Tee section members at transfer were derived, which limit the maximum allowable stresses as 80% and 70% of the compressive strengths at the time of release for Tee section and inverted Tee section, respectively. And these were larger than the allowable stresses specified in domestic and other international codes. In order to verify the proposed equations, they were compared to the test results available in literature and other codes, which showed that the allowable stresses in domestic and international codes are unconservative for the cases with low eccentricity ratios while conservative for those with high eccentricity ratios. The proposed equations, however, estimate the allowable stresses of the Tee and inverted Tee section members reasonably close to test results.
In this study, the size effect on axial compressive strength for concrete members was experimentally investigated. Experiment of mode I failure, which is one of the two representative compressive failure modes, was carried out by using double cantilever beam specimens. By varying the eccentricity of applied loads with respect to the axis on each cantilever and the initial crack length, the size effect of axial compressive strength of concrete was investigated, and new parameters for the modified size effect law (MSEL) were suggested using least square method (LSM). The test results show that size effect appears for axial compressive strength of cracked specimens. For the eccentricity of loads, the influence of tensile and compressive stress at the crack tip are significant and so that the size effect is present. In other words, if the influence of tensile stress at the crack tip grows up, the size effect of concrete increases. And the effect of initial crack length on axial compressive strength is present, however, the differences with crack length are not apparent because the size of fracture process zone (FPZ) of all specimens in the high-strength concrete is similar regardless of differences of specimen slenderness.

Eccentric axial loading test was performed for concrete-encased columns using 800MPa steel and 100MPa concrete. To maximize the contribution of the high-strength steel, L-shaped steel sections were placed at four corners, and connected to each other by lattices, links, or battens. Compared to a H-section of the same area, the moment-arm and strain of the L-sections are increased. Also, the corner L-sections provide good lateral confinement to concrete core. The test results showed that the peak strength and effective flexural stiffness of the L-section columns were increased by more than 1.4 times those of the H-section column.

This paper describes the collapse characteristics of the rectangular tube under eccentric compressive load. Local buckling stress and maximum crippling load are investigated. A thin-walled tube under load is controlled by local buckling or yielding of material according to the ratio of thickness to width (t/b) of the cross section, and subsequent collapse of the section. The relationship can be divided into three regions : elastic , post-buckling and crippling . the load-displacement relationship is theoretically presented in each region by introducing the stress distribution of the cross section in the loading process. And the maximum load carrying capacity is derived in the closed form as a function of normal stress on the flange and web.
In this study, the stub columns of built-up H-section and square hollow section subjected to eccentrical loads are tested to evaluate the applicability of the structural members with 800MPa high-strength steel (HSA800) on current design specification. Analytical studies of FE model are conducted to validate the test results and then the verified FE models are used for extensive parametric studies for checking up the applicability of current design code. The parameters are width-to-thickness ratios and axial load ratios. From P-M correlations on parameter models, all stub columns with non-compact sections exceed the current design requirements about axial force and flexural strength ratios are sufficiently secured as the axial load ratios are decreased. The built-up hollow sections with slender section model do not satisfy the current design specification about axial force.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the deflection for serviceability assessment of the prestressed concrete one-way slab using finite element program. Proposed finite element analysis method was verified comparing with existing experimental results, and it showed a good agreement. Also, a parametric study has been conducted to analyze the influence of concrete compressive strength, eccentricity, live load, and tendon profile. The finite element analysis results were compared with hand calculation results. Deflections were decreased as the concrete compressive strength increases, eccentricity increases, and the live load decreases. The deflection of straight tendon was smallest. And regression analysis has been conducted to analyze the correlation between parameters and camber.

This study was focused on the effect of concrete strength and lateral ties of concrete columns subjected to eccentric compressive loads. The twenty-four concrete columns with $200mm{\times}200mm$ square cross-section were tested. The main variables were concrete strength, spacing and configuration of lateral ties, and eccentricity ratios. From the experiment, the followings were investigated ; 1) In all cases, it was observed that the increase of concrete compressive strength led to the decrease of ductility. Also, as the eccentricity ratios increased, the effect of ductility enhancement by lateral ties decreased. 2) As the ties spacing decreased from 100mm to 30mm, the magnitude of axial load acting on the concrete column showed an enhancement of 1.1~1.2 times and the descending curve after a peak moment presented a smooth decline. 3) The high-strength concrete columns required a design of lateral ties to increase the volumetric ratios and density of tie spacing to sustain a proper strength and ductility. Accordingly, regardless of concrete strength, the current AIK design code to specify the maximum tie spacing of concrete columns was proven to lead to the poor strength and ductility for seismic design. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a new seismic design code that connects volumetric ratios and tie spacing of concrete columns with concrete strength.

Five concrete-encased steel columns using high-strength steel($f_{ys}$=801MPa) and high-strength concrete($f_{ck}$=97.7MPa) were tested to investigate the eccentric axial load-displacement relationship. Test parameters included the type, yield strength, and spacing of lateral reinforcement, and also the eccentricity of axial load. To analyze the behavior of the column specimens, the nonlinear sectional analysis using strain-compatibility and confinement effect was performed. To examine the applicability of existing design codes for the composite sections using high-strength materials, the test results were also compared with the predictions by the nonlinear analysis and the design codes. The confinement effect of lateral reinforcement increased the ductility of concrete, and the moment capacity of the column specimens increased with the ductility of concrete. The prediction by the nonlinear analysis gave good agreement with the test results. On the other hand, the ACI 318 neglecting lateral confinement effect underestimated the strength of the column specimens, and the Eurocode 4 using complete plastic capacity of steel section overestimated.

In the previous research, allowable compressive stress was analyzed based on strength theory, in which primary effect factors on the allowable compressive stress, such as eccentricity ratio, section type, section size, prestress and self-weight moment, were considered. As its results, allowable compressive stress equations were proposed. As a series of the previous research, this paper presents an experimental study on the prestress at transfer of pre-tensioned members with different eccentricity ratios. The results shows that ACI318-08 and EC2-02 are unconservative for the members under low eccentricity ratios, and they are conservative for the members under high eccentricity ratios. Compared to the code provisions, the results indicates that the proposed equation reasonably well evaluates the allowable compressive stresses for those with different eccentricity ratios.
