Analysis of Temperature Gradients in Greenhouse Equipped with Fan and Pad System by CFD Method (CFD 기법을 이용한 팬 앤 패드 냉방 온실의 온도경사 분석)

  • Evaporative cooling pad system is one of the main cooling methods in greenhouses and its efficiency is very high. However, it has some disadvantages such as greenhouse temperature distributions are not uniform and installation cost is expensive. In this study, a CFD simulation model f3r predicting the air temperature distribution in the fan and fad cooling greenhouse was developed. The model was calibrated and validated against experimental data and a good fit was obtained. The influence of different outside wind, fan and pad height, ventilation rate, shading, and greenhouse length, were then examined. In order to reduce the internal temperature gradients, it is desired that the prevail wind direction and the fan and pad heights are considered. The simulation indicates that high ventilation rates and shading contribute to reduce the temperature gradients in the fan and pad cooling greenhouse. In order to maintain the desired greenhouse temperature, the pad-to-fan distance should be restricted according to the design climate conditions, shading and ventilation rates. The developed CFD model can be a useful tool to evaluate and design the fan and pad systems in the greenhouses with various configurations.

Greenhouse Cooling Using Air Duct and Integrated Fan and Pad System (일체형 팬 앤 패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 이용한 온실 냉방)

  • The fan and pad evaporative cooling system is one of the main cooling methods in greenhouses. Its efficiency is very high, but it has some disadvantages as temperature gradient in greenhouse is large. This study was conducted to reduce the internal temperature gradients in the fan and pad cooling greenhouses. Experiments on cooling performance were carried out in a greenhouse equipped with air duct and integrated fan and pad system as an idea of this study. It showed that the cooling efficiency of an integrated fan and pad system was 75.7% in the first stage and 88.6% in the second stage. When this cooling system was operated for an unshaded and a shaded greenhouse, there were cooling effects of $5.7\sim7.6^{\circ}C$ and $7.4\sim9.7^{\circ}C$ to the control greenhouse, respectively. Maximum temperature differences in a cooling greenhouse, with a length of 18m, were $1.6\sim1.7^{\circ}C$ for shaded conditions and $2.3\sim2.7^{\circ}C$ for unshaded conditions. This greenhouse cooling method, with air duct and integrated fan and pad system, can reduce about 40~50% of the internal temperature gradients in the usual fan and pad cooling greenhouses.

  • Cooling air-conditioning of APC (Agricultural Products processing Center) workplace is important to improve the working environment in the summer season. As existing cooling systems for air-conditioning of whole workplace are inefficient because of their high equipment operating costs, relatively inexpensive cooling system is required. The objectives of this study were to simulate the thermal flow fields in APC workplace having the positive and negative pressure type fan and pad systems and spot cooling system by using CFD software (FLUENT, 6.2) and estimate the cooling effectiveness of respective cooling systems. The results showed that the negative pressure type fan and pad system was inappropriate for the present APC workplace because of excessive outside air influx from open gateway and the positive pressure type fan and pad system created relatively low temperature field but non-uniform velocity field at worker positions. The spot cooling system could supply cool air to worker positions with relatively constant air velocity and temperature.

The Development Trend of a VTOL MAV with a Ducted Propellant (덕티드 추진체를 사용한 수직 이·착륙 초소형 무인 항공기 개발 동향)

  • This purpose of this paper was to review the development trend of the VTOL MAVs with a ducted propellant that can fly like the VTOL at intermediate and high speeds, hovering, landing, and lifting off vertically over urban areas, warships, bridges, and mountainous terrains. The MAV differs in flight characteristics from helicopters and fixed wings in many respects. In addition to enhancing thrust, the duct protects personnel from accidental contact with the spinning rotor. The purpose of the U.S. Army FCS and DARPA's OAV program is spurring development of a the VTOL ducted MAV. Today's MAVs are equipped with video/infrared cameras to hover-and-stare at enemies hidden behind forests and hills for approximately one hour surveillance and reconnaissance. Class-I is a VTOL ducted MAV developed in size and weight that individual soldiers can store in their backpacks. Class-II is the development of an organic VTOL ducted fan MAV with twice the operating time and a wider range of flight than Class-I. MAVs will need to develop to perch-and-stare technology for lengthy operation on the current hover-and-stare. The near future OAV's concept is to expand its mission capability and efficiency with a joint operation that automatically lifts-off, lands, refuels, and recharges on the vehicle's landing pad while the manned-unmanned ground vehicle is in operation. A ducted MAV needs the development of highly accurate relative position technology using low cost and small GPS for automatic lift-off and landing on the landing pad. There is also a need to develop a common command and control architecture that enables the cooperative operation of organisms between a VTOL ducted MAV and a manned-unmanned ground vehicle.
