Holographic wavelength demultiplexing for WDM system (파장 분할 다중 시스템 적용을 위한 홀로그래픽 파장 역다중화)

  • 광굴절 Fe-LiNbO3 결정에서 형성된 홀로그래픽 부피 격자의 협대역 및 파장 역다중화 특성을 이용한 WDM 광통신 시스템용 역다중화 기법을 제안하고, 실험결과를 제시하였다. 홀로그래픽 부피격자의 중심 파장, 채널 간격, 통과대역 특성의 결정 요소에 대해 분석하고, 제안한 역다중화 기법을 입증하기 위해 결정 내에 세 개의 반사형 부피격자를 기록한 후 브래그 회절된 각 채널의 특성을 관찰하였다. 실험결과 1591.35nm, 1590.53nm, 1588.91nm의 중심 파장에서 각각 0.34nm, 0.45nm, 0.43nm의 통과대역 특성을 보였으며, 채널 간격이 0.8nm인 경우 34.95dB의 채널 누화 억제 특성을 관찰하였다.

Interchannel RF Power Fluctuation in WDM-RoF System Employing Photonic Crystal Fiber (광결정 광섬유를 이용한 WDM-RoF 시스템의 채널간 전력변화 편차 분석)

  • In this paper, we report that the differences between RF power levels can be improved in wavelength division multiplexing - radio over fiber (WDM-RoF) system by using a photonic crystal fiber. In a WDM-RoF system, each WDM channel experiences different received RF power level fluctuation in remote node (RN) because of wavelength-dependent dispersion. Since each WDM channel experiences different power fluctuation, the RF power fluctuation acts as a design constraint in viewpoint of network design. We designed a photonic crystal fiber to improve the effect of wavelength- dependent dispersion on RF power fluctuation. Also, we analyzed the wavelength-dependent difference of inter-channel RF power fluctuations.

  • Wavelength and repetition-rate tunable optical pulse-trains for ultrafast optical time- and wavelength division multiplexing are generated from a semiconductor fiber ring laser by optical injection mode-locking. The pulse trains show the pulse with of ${\sim}10$ ps and the wavelength tuning of wider than 30 nm at various repetition-rates of 10 GHz, 20 GHz, 30 GHz and 40 GHz, respectively.

  • In order to effectively utilize the Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing(CWDM) technology in optical integrated devices, a design of a wavelength selective coupler structure between an optical fiber and an optical waveguide in a flat substrate is can be considered. In this paper, we consider the coupling between a silicon waveguide with an air trench and a single mode fiber. We investigated the tendency of coupling efficiency and its limitations according to the grating depth. For this purpose, the coupling efficiency of coupler structure designed through modeling based on coupled mode theory is predicted and quantitatively compared with simulation results using finite element method.

  • 광전달망에서 전송용량의 폭발적인 수요 증가에 대처하기 위한 최적의 솔루션으로 파장분할다중화(WDM: wavelength division multiplexing) 방식이 도입되고 있으며, 그 적용 영역 또한 장거리 시외망, 단거리 시내망부터 인터넷 트래픽 전달용 백본망을 위한 핵심기술로 정착될 것으로 예측하고 있다. WDM 광전송 방식은 기존의 시분할 다중(TDM: time division multiplexing) 방식이 갖는 동기식(SDH: synchronous digital hierarchy) 전송기술의 한계를 보완할 수 있으며, 신호의 다중화 및 역다중화 구성체계가 단순하고, 입력 광신호에 대한 신호속도나 형태등의 제한도 없기 때문에, 기존의 동기식 전송에 비해 전송용량을 쉽게 확장할 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있다.   • We propose a low noise broadband light source (BLS) and investigate a cost-effective wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network (WDM-PON) for the convergence of broadcasting and data service. The proposed BLS is used for an injection light of wavelength-locked Fabry-Perot laser diodes (F-P LD) and helps the color-free operation of dense WDM-PON (DWDM-PON). In addition, we apply this BLS to a optical source for overlay of digital broadcasting channel on the WDM-PON.

  • Optical wavelength division multiplexing signals of eight non-return-to-zero 10 Gb/s channels were transmitted on the long-haul link up to 720 km. The link span was composed of 80 km single mode fiber, dispersion compensation fiber for complete compensation, and EDFAs. A circulating loop method was applied to the link experiment and the loop was optimized for the transmission link. Wavelength-dependent gain variation of EDFA was compensated using EDFAs of opposite gain slopes without expensive gain flattening filters. Average OSNR was aggravated to 22 dB and the worst OSNR channel variation was 9.7 dB after the transmission. It was confirmed by analyzing optical spectra that this OSNR variation was mainly caused by the hole burning effect of EDFA.

  • In this paper, we have shown the gain recovery time of erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA) in WDM add/drop networks can be reduced to less than $3\mu$sec by employing disturbance observer technique with PID controller which is based on 3-level EBFA model. The $3\mu$sec transient time is the fastest one ever reported and it is about $1\%$ of $250\mu$sec previously obtained from disturbance observer technique with PI controller which was based on 2-level EDFA model and it is also less than $200\mu$sec of commercially available EDFAs for WDM networks. We were able to obtain this result by analyzing various system characteristics as we change the parameters of disturbance observer and PID controller. If this result is applied to a commercial product, the product will do an important role in the future dynamic WDM networks.
