The overall aim of this paper is to determine coupling loss factor of welding point between shell and cylinder using loss factor and structural loss factor. For this purpose, two kinds of loss factor were adopted. One is loss factor of each sub structure, another is structural loss factor based on the complex welded or assembled structure. Using these two parameters, it is possible to derive the coupling loss factor which represent characteristic condition of SEA theory. Coupling loss factor of conjunction in complex structure was expressed as power balance equation. The derived equation for a coupling loss factor has been simplified on the assumption of one way(nl- directional) power flow between multi-sub structures. Using these conditions, it is possible to find the equation of coupling loss factor expressed as above two loss factors. To check the effectiveness of above equation, this paper used two stage application. The first approach was application between simple cylinder and shell. The next was adopted rotary compressor. Rotary compressor has three main conjunctions between shell and internal vibration part. This equation was applied to find out the optimum welding Point with respect to reduce the noise propagation. It shows the effective tool to evaluate the coupling loss factor in complex structure

The hot stove system is a process that is continuously and constantly generating the hot combustion air required for the blast furnace. The hot stove process is considered as a main energy consumption process because it consumes about $20\%$ of the total energy in steel making works. So, many researchers have interested in the improvement of the heat efficiency of the hot stove to reduce the energy consumption. But they have difficulties in improving the heat efficiency of the hot stove because there is no precise information on heat transformation occurring during the heating period. In order to model the relationship between the operating conditions and heat efficiencies, we propose a neural network using feature extraction as one of experimental modeling methods. In order to show the performance of the model, we compare it with Partial Least Square (PLS) method. Both methods have similarities in using the dimension reduction technique. And then we present the simulation results on the prediction of the heat efficiency of the hot stove.

In this paper time series wave data measured continuously for 24 hours during a storm in Yura Sea Area are used to investigate statistical characteristics of nonlinear waves. The exceedance probability of wave height is compared using the Rayleigh distribution and the Edgeworth-Rayleigh (ER) distribution. Wave data which show stationary state for 10 hours contain 4600 waves approximately. The Gram-Chalier distribution fits the probability of wave elevation better than the Gaussian distribution. The Rayleigh ($H_{rms}$) distribution follows the exceedance probability of wave height in general and predicts the probability of freak waves well. The ER distribution overpredicts the exceedance probability of wave heights and the occurrence of freak waves. If wave data measured for 30 minute period which contains 250 waves are used, the ER distribution can predict the occurrence probability of freak waves well. But it overpredicts the probability of overall wave height If no freak wave occurs, the Rayleigh ($H_{rms}$) distribution agrees well with wave height distribution for the most of wave height ranges. The wave height distribution of freak waves of which height are less than 10 m shows similar tendency compared with freak waves greater than 10 m. The value of $H_{max}/H_{1/3}$ is related to the kurtosis of wave elevation. It seems that there exists threshold value of the kurtosis for the occurrence of freak waves.
Rock joints have an extremely important role in analyzing the mechanical stability and hydraulic characteristics of rock mass structures. Most rock joint parameters are generally indicated as a distribution by statistical techniques. In this research, calculation technique of Joint Center Volume (JCV) is analyzed, which is required for estimating the size distribution having the largest uncertainty among the joint parameters, then a new technique is proposed which is applicable regardless of the shape of survey window. The existing theoretical JCV calculation technique can be applied only to the plane window, and the complete enumeration techniques show the limitations in joint trace type and analysis time. This research aims to overcome the limitations in survey window shape and joint trace type through calculating JCV by using Monte Carlo simulation. The applicability of proposed technique is validated through the estimation results at non-planar survey windows such as curved surface and tunnel surface.
Recently, a lot of studies have been made about the methods used to generate turbulent velocity fields stochastically in order to effectively predict broadband flow noise. Among them, the FRPM (Fast Random Particle Mesh) method which generates turbulence with specific statistical properties using turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation obtained from the steady solution of the RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations has been successfully applied. However, the FRPM method cannot be applied to the flow noise problems involving intrinsic unsteady characteristics such as centrifugal fan. In this paper, to effectively predict the broadband noise generated by centrifugal fan, U-FRPM (unsteady FRPM) method is developed by extending the FRPM method to be combined with the unsteady numerical solutions of the unsteady RANS equations to generate the turbulence considered as broadband noise sources. Firstly, an unsteady flow field is obtained from the unsteady RANS equations through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Then, noise sources are generated using the U-FRPM method combined with acoustic analogy. Finally, the linear propagation model which is realized through BEM (Boundary Element Method) is combined with the generated sources to predict broadband noise at the listeners' position. The proposed technique is validated to compare its prediction result with the measured data.
Acoustic load generated by rocket propulsion system is one of major dynamic loads during lift-off phase so that it causes the structural failure and electronic malfunction of payloads. Acoustic loads can be greatly reduced by an appropriate acoustical design of nose faring structures. This paper deals with the acoustical design of the nose fairing structure for launch vehicle. It is well known that a honeycomb sandwich structure is a poor sound insulator because of its high specific stiffness. In this paper, the sound transmission characteristics of four kinds of honeycomb structures for noise fairing were investigated by means of numerical and experimental ways. In order to estimate transmission loss, infinite plate theory by Moore and Lyon and statistical energy analysis (SEA) method were used. The predicted results showed a good agreement with measured ones. These enabled us to determine a proper core material for nose fairing, which shows good sound insulation performance per weight.

In research vessels or naval ships, airborne noise from machineries such as diesel engine is the major source of underwater noise at low speed. In this paper, effect of engine noise on underwater noise is studied by considering two paths; sound radiation from hull plate and direct airborne noise transmission through hull plate. SEA (Statistical energy analysis) is used to predict hull plate vibration induced by engine noise, where SEA model consists of only two subsystems; engine room air space and hull plate. The pressure level in water is calculated from sound radiation by plate. Engine noise transmission through hull plate is obtained by assuming plane wave propagation in air-limp plate-water system. Two effects are combined and compared to the measurement, where speaker is used as a source in engine room and sound pressure levels in engine room and water are measured. The hydrophone is located 1 m away from the hull plate. It is found below 1000 Hz, prediction overestimates underwater sound pressure level by 5 to 12 dB.

Sound insulation performance of a unit cabin mock-up is studied, where two identical rooms simulating cruise ship cabin are installed. STL (Sound Transmission Loss) measurement in the mock-up shows that STL of the partition between rooms is degraded by imperfect door ceiling and gap between wall and floor. It is also observed that gap around lighting and electrical outlet slightly affect the STL in high frequency ranges, since lighting and electrical outlet are supported by mineral wool in the back side due to fire-resistance requirement. Even after all possible gaps are sealed, STL of the partition is found to be lower than that measured in the laboratory by 9 dB. Measurement of SBN (Structure-Borne Noise) reveals that flanking transmission of SBN along the steel deck floor can severely deteriorate STL of the partition. Statistical energy analysis (SEA) of the mock-up confirms importance of the floor SBN control, in which increasing damping is essential to ensure high STL.
The research topics of the appropriate technology include environment, medical, education, and energy etc. Therefore, having a review on appropriate technology requires huge efforts of specialists from many difference research areas. Social network analysis has been applied to understand the relationships among the components in the network and to provide insights by visualizing the huge network having many components. In this study, the co-authors and their research topics at the international conference on appropriate technology (ICAT) held by Academic Society for Appropriate Technology (ASAT) from 2017 to 2019 were analyzed using the statistical and visualization tools. The networks between co-authors were analyzed using the pretreated data which were collected from ASAT. The annual trend or characteristics of the general information on ICAT were also analyzed.
