Recently, building of long span bridge is increasing and cable stayed bridges have large portion in civil projects. As the spans of bridges become longer, steel cable-stayed bridges have been constructed mainly for slim structure. But in many case, pylons are constructed by concrete for the stability of structures and the economy. Concrete is greatly influenced by the long-term behavior like creep and drying shrinkage, so analysis of stress redistribution and structural change in construction is required. In this study, as a cable stayed bridge with concrete pylon, Incheon Bridge is analyzed by nonlinear FEM analysis program RCAHEST. Through this analysis, time dependent effect of concrete pylon to whole cable stayed bridge system is studied.

Recently, construction site scale has been growing larger along with the growth of national economy. As construction market requires time reduction, cost saving, and improving quality, a cutting-edge technology applied research has been gradually studied for more efficient project management. In particular, the Real Time Location System (RTLS) technology, a real-time location tracking system of construction resources, can be effectively used in safety management. This technology has been studied and applied in various industries including architectural, marine, urban, and other industries. However, although tunnel construction in civil engineering has a narrow space and many safety risks, there are not researched about this content. Therefore, this study proposes an advanced safety management model for tunnel construction using the RTLS technology and a measurement method of the feasibility of this model in the construction site.

The active engagement of the organization employees in the quality management activities of the construction project promotes the achievement of successful management performance. This study seeks to find a mechanism to promote employee engagement. The preceding factors that promote employee engagement through previous research are employee rewards system and satisfaction. In order to verify the proposed research model, sample data of 232 construction project employees were collected and analyzed through a structural equation model. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that all the proposed variables had a significant effect on the employee engagement and the moderate effect according to the employee's position and labor contract. The results of this study are expected to provide useful theoretical and practical implications for researchers and managers seeking ways to promote the engagement of organization employees from a broader perspective for the activation of quality management activities of construction companies.

The necessity of professional construction management has been increased as a construction project is getting larger, more complex and specialized. Thus, the CM market has steadily expanded since 1996 in Korea. Despite the external expanding of the CM market, experts claim that domestic CM regulations and infrastructures should be revised. Therefore, this paper developed a causal map which consists of elements vitalizing CM market. Then, the simulation model using NUMBER (Normalized Unit Modeling by Elementary Relationships) to predict the size of the CM market is established. As a result, in the case of more regulation related CM, the quantity of CM projects could not reach of construction supervision until 2020. This paper can be used as a baseline providing a prospection of the change of CM market according to causal relation between the improvement as well as the base of revitalization research of CM market based on non-institutional factors change.

In recent years, there has been a movement to create a learning city where people can learn and enjoy what they want whenever, wherever, and whenever, so that the self-realization of individuals and the quality of life can be enhanced to improve the competitiveness of the city as a whole, It is becoming active. Many developed countries in the world are supporting projects to build learning cities by utilizing schools and public facilities, thereby providing local residents with opportunities for self-growth and solving community problems. In Korea, too, there are various programs using idle facilities. However, there is a lack of education programs for local residents and learning programs by partnership with local communities. It is when spatial and software strategies are needed to build a successful learning city. Therefore, we want to systematically organize the spatial data of the facilities that can be learned, analyze the current problems, and explore various ways to utilize them. We also analyze the programs that residents need to implement real and efficient learning cities.

Recent construction projects consist of large and complex facilities, which project management information system (PMIS) is used for managing construction cost and schedule. The ministry of land, transport and maritime affairs (MLTM) is using a continuous acquisition and life-cycle support (CALS) system for managing the public construction projects. This study attempts to survey some problems of the CALS system in practical application, and then suggests the new functions to improve practical application of the CALS system. All functions in each menu were analyzed in the practical application aspect. All projects ordered from MLTM should use the CALS system as a PMIS, but the practical application is limited in partial functions and special working group. And the utilization of system is focused on simple tasks and report process. One of main reason is that the system is using numerical data rather than graphical data. This study suggests new functions and a visualized management method that can improve the practical applicability using a 4D object in each current functions.

As the Asian region becomes strategically important in the international construction market, competition among construction firms has been more intense. While existing literature on the Asian construction market have mainly focused on qualitative approaches to market entry strategies and risk assessment, quantitative research to explain the dynamic competitive structure of the market has been rarely conducted. To address this issue, this study analyzes the structure of contract performance in the Asian region based on the data from 3,996 projects awarded to Korean construction firms from 2009 to 2017. In addition, this study applies a mathematical model using both static (market concentration) and dynamic (market mobility and instability) analyses. Consequently, the static analysis indicates that market concentration led by top-four firms tends to be increased, and on the dynamic aspect, the market position of Korean construction firms is recently weakened and fluctuated in most of the Asian regions and the construction sectors. The methodology and result of this paper would be meaningful not only to understand the underlying structure of industry-level performance but also to provide a useful reference for establishing competitive strategies towards the Asian market.

Currently, as construction projects in Korea are becoming larger and more complex, the hazard rate of the construction industry is steadily increasing, contrary to other industries. This can be seen as an indication that the safety technology and safety consciousness of construction workers are insufficient compared to the improved construction technology. In addition, due to the characteristics of the construction industry based on manpower, most accidents appear in conventional forms such as fall and trip due to human errors. Therefore, analyzing the relationship between the characteristics of human resources and accidents and establishing detailed safety plans is an essential part of reducing construction accidents. In this study, a correlation analysis was conducted using 62,805 cases of construction accident cases over 3 years to derive the characteristics of accident occurrence focusing on the age of workers. As a result of the analysis, the relationship between the age of workers and the frequency and severity of accidents for each accident type was derived, focusing on the top 10 accident types.

Since risks occurring in construction projects can have a significant impact on schedules and costs, there have been many studies on this topic. However, risk analysis is often limited to only certain construction situations, and experience-dependent decision-making is therefore mainly performed. Data-based analyses have only been partially applied to safety and contract documents. Therefore, in this study, cluster analysis and a Word2Vec algorithm were applied to formal documents that contain important elements for contractors or clients. An initial classification of document content into six types was performed through cluster analysis, and 157 occurrence types were subdivided through application of the Word2Vec algorithm. The derived terms were re-classified into five categories and reviewed as to whether the terms could develop into potential construction risk factors. Identifying potential construction risk factors will be helpful as basic data for process management in the construction industry.

Understanding the local conditions is a crucial factor in enhancing the success potential of overseas construction projects. This can be achieved through the analysis of news articles of the target market using topic modeling techniques. In this study, the authors aimed to analyze news articles using two topic modeling methods, namely Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and BERTopic, in order to determine the optimal approach for market condition analysis. To evaluate the alignment between the generated topics and the actual themes of the news documents, the research collected 6,273 BBC news articles, created ground truth data for individual news article topics, and finally compared this ground truth with the results of the topic modeling. The F1 score for LDA was 0.011, while BERTopic achieved a score of 0.244. These results indicate that BERTopic more accurately reflected the actual topics of news articles, making it more effective for understanding the overseas construction market.
