Multi-Stage Turbocharger Gasoline IC Engine Simulation for HALE UAV (고고도 장기체공 무인기 적용을 위한 다단 터보차저 가솔린 엔진 시스템 시뮬레이션)

  • This study conducted a simulation to observe the performance of a multi-turbocharged gasoline internal combustion engine for a high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (HALE UAV). The WAVE 1-D engine simulation software from Ricardo was used for the engine system modeling and simulation. The specifications of a 2.4-L four cylinder gasoline engine from commercial vehicles and maps of commercial vehicle turbochargers were applied to the multi-stage turbocharged engine system model. Three turbochargers and intercoolers were installed in series for the appropriate intake of pressure for the gasoline engine at a high altitude of 60,000 ft. There was one wastegate for the turbochargers. The operability of the engine system was analyzed via this simulation model.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study for turbocharger system in a vehicle of diesel engine. The first example, it certified the fact that a car engine is not to accelerate by clogged the exhaust tube as the turbine was damaged because of turbine wheel broken. The a vehicle with turbocharger must to stop engine operation after maintaining the appropriate idle revolution as it can be the sticking phenomenon if the operator immediately stop the engine being high revolution. The second example, it knew the phenomenon of acceleration faulty that the rod of VGT actuator that operating the turbocharger adhered with the bracket of VGT. The third example, it confirmed the power insufficiency phenomenon when driving by of alternator resistor and fan intercooler fan relay connector mistaken assembly. Therefore, the operator have to scrutinize manage no the failure of turbocharger system.

  • A high altitude long endurance aircraft which carries out missions of environmental research communication relay or ground surveillance, should have the capacity to cruise in the stratosphere at a relatively low speed for a long dwell time without the necessity of refueling. When one considers the propulsion system for such an aircraft, a reciprocating engine with a serial turbo-charger system to boost rarefied ambient air up to sea level condition, would represent an good, informed and practical choice regardless of the cruising altitude of the aircraft. In this paper, high altitude long endurance aircraft developed by overseas research groups and research trends, regarding multi-stage turbocharger systems, are introduced.

  • In this paper, the gas generator using hydrogen peroxide catalytic decomposition was designed for turbine generator operation. The gas generator used 90wt% rocket-grade of hydrogen peroxide and manganese dioxide as a catalyst. Turbine generators utilizing gas generators were investigated and the prestudy was prepared using automobile turbocharger instead of turbine generator.

A Study on the Performance Characteristics of Turbocharged Engine for the Stable Control (터보차저 엔진의 안정적 제어를 위한 성능 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the performance characteristics of turbocharged engine is analyzed. The methods of engine performance improvements are suggested not only for full load characteristics of the engine but also for partial load characteristics of the engine, which is more frequently used in actual driving conditions. The compression ratio of the compressor is increased rapidly in a straight line pattern until 1260 engine rpm, and after that it is increased slowly to 2.5 ratio. Also the brake mean effective pressure increased until 1260 engine rpm and decreased rapidly after 1600 engine rpm. The higher the pressure ratio, the better the fuel consumption, air excess ratio and brake mean effective pressure. But those are higher in the rated revolution range than in the mid-low revolution range. The turbocharger is operated in a stable condition from 1260 rpm and its efficiency is low in the low speed range for the reason of its characteristics. The results of this study can be applied in the fundamental control methods of turbocharged engine for stable load and speed.

Manufacturing of Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb Alloy Turbocharger Turbine Wheel by Vacuum Centrifugal Casting (진공 원심 주조를 이용한 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금 터보차저 터빈휠 제작)

  • Based on its good compatibility with high-temperature environments, the Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy is used for high-temperature materials of industrial equipment. In this study, a Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy turbocharger turbine wheel was fabricated by a vacuum centrifugal casting method. The conditions that prevent misrun defects of the turbocharger turbine wheel blade from centrifugal casting using alumina molds were investigated. The microstructure of the alloy prepared by vacuum centrifugal casting was studied by means of optical microscopy (OM), with a micro-Vickers hardness analyzer (HV), by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and by SEM-EDS. The HV and SEM-EDS examinations of the as-cast Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy showed that the thickness of the oxide layer (α-case) was typically less than 50 ㎛. At a high preheating temperature of 1,100℃, a moderate RPM of 260, and with an alumina mold with a large gate size, there were almost no misrun defects. Therefore, it was confirmed that a Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb alloy turbocharger turbine wheel with fewer misrun defects could be achieved through a high preheating temperature, a moderate RPM, a large gate size and an alumina mold to suppress the formation of alpha-case components.

  • A surge phenomenon cause noise and pulsations in a turbo compressor, which is an unstable operating regime. Because surge protection ensures a safe compressor operation, it is important to understand the physics of the surge phenomenon. In this study, the surge characteristics of a 250-hp class turbo-compressor were evaluated experimentally. The experimental parameters were the rotational speed, opening angles of the inlet guide vane and exit valve, and inlet pipe diameter and flow rates of the inlet gases. The results showed that the compressor surge was very sensitive to the gas flow rates, exit pressure, rotational speed, and bypass flow rates.

  • 터보 노즐에 유동하는 가스 에너지의 변화와 그위상의 조정에 의하여 디젤엔진의 성능 개선 가능성을 검토 하였다. 그리고 디젤기관의 각실린더와 터빈 노즐 면적과 가스의 유동에 대한 동기화를 실시함으로써 엔진 성능 또한 개선할 수 있었다.
