  • We investigated pre-service science teachers' understanding of and problem-solving ability with regard to chemistry concepts in the high school curriculum. For this purpose, we used related certain items and analyzed the results. We found that in the case of all items, some pre-service science teachers, who do not have clear concepts, selected incorrect answers. The in-depth interviews we conducted with the participants revealed some of the causes for the results obtained. First, although pre-service science teachers have better concepts as compared to high school students, they have the same misconceptions as students with regard to some concepts. Second, although they are familiar with the general definitions or meanings of scientific concepts, they do not understand the specific content that is emphasized in the curriculum. Moreover, they tend to solve problems by the information visually conceived. Third, although they know the necessity of general concepts related to problem solving, they sometimes fail to apply inquiry skills and tend to suggest concepts from the higher education curriculum that are not helpful for solving problems.

  • This study was to analyze the educational objectives of evaluation of practice quizzes and learning objectives of chemistry I textbooks for the 2009 revised curriculum by Klopfer's taxonomy. The result revealed that the objectives of science education indicated in the 2009 revised curriculum were contained the educational meaning of all categories except 'manual skills' of Klopfer's taxonomy of educational objectives. The learning objectives of chemistry I textbooks laid mostly on 'the knowledge and comprehension' and 'the process of scientific inquiry'. It showed that 'the objectives of scientific knowledge and methods', 'manual skills' and 'scientific attitude and interest', 'orientation' seemed to be taken in a relatively careless way. The result on the practice quizzes in textbooks, they also laid stress on 'the knowledge and comprehension' were covered much, even though they were emphasized in the other objectives of the curriculum. It was concluded that the educational objectives of the science textbooks did not reflect much on educational objectives of the 2009 revised curriculum.

  • This study is to suggest ideas for policies and theories by analysing the control effectiveness of parents' raising attitude on the influence of adolescents' self-control and Internet Expectation. For this, the questionnaire surveys composed of measures on adolescents' self-control, Internet Expectation, and parents' raising attitude, were carried out to 312 high school students in G metropolitan city, and the relation of the variables were studied. As a result of research, it was found out adolescents' self-control and Internet Expectation influenced the internet addiction. Expecially, the influence of adolescents' self-control and Internet Expectation of internet addiction was differed by the parent's raising attitude. In this research, the ideas of policies were suggested based on the analysis of the results.

  • This study aims to analyze the current state and causes of digital media literacy divide according to its sub-factors. The effects of the generation and the economic status, among other variables, have been explored using empirical data from a large-scale survey of 2,171 media users including children, adolescents, adults and the elderly. The results showed that the effects of generation and economic status varied according to 8 components of digital media literacy. The economic status of media users has also been found to influence the divide among adults group and through the interaction effect with the generation factor. Policy suggestions for the solution of digital media literacy divide were discussed in conclusion.

  • This study investigated whether there was a difference in off-line consumption behavior on and off-line. Online surveys were conducted on 218 people aged 20 to 59 who live in the country actively using Instagram, and the results of analysis through technical statistical analysis, logistic regression analysis, and linear regression analysis are as follows. There are some differences in the consumption items and expenditures of showing consumption behavior on Instagram and showing consumption in real space. In addition, there were different factors influencing the behavior of showing off in Instagram and the factors affecting the showing of consumption in real space. Age, education, and narcissism have an effect on show off behavior in Instagram, whereas age, materialism, and narcissism have been identified as factors influencing in real space. Whether on Instagram or in the real space, the positive emotions felt by consumers after showing off consumption had a statistically significant effect on consumer happiness. This study has significance in that it has empirically verified the difference between Instagram and actual consumption behaviors, and sought the direction of healthy consumption behaviors for consumer happiness.

  • This study was carried out to analyze the design pattern on engineering design curriculum P University based on the curriculum design model. For this study, the relation model between organizational factors by Drake & Burns(2004) and university curriculum design pattern Toohey(1999) were used as a frame of the analysis. From the analysis, we confirmed following results. Firstly, the relation between the subjects in the engineering design curriculum was designed to acquire the knowledges of facts, topics, and concepts and then to improve low-level skills, broad-range skills, and high-level skills related to engineering design sequently. Secondly, the design pattern of the engineering design curriculum analyzed in this paper is project and problem based structure. This result will be useful for reviewing and improving the relation between engineering design curriculum.

  • The purposes of this study were to analyze the domestic research trend of the STS Education and to evaluate the application effects of STS teaching model by using Meta-analysis. The selected research articles were 180 articles including 104 of the master's theses and 76 of science education journal articles published from 1991 to 2006. For the evaluation of the effects of STS teaching and learning model, 56 articles were selected finally. The mean effect size of the application effects of STS teaching and learning was 0.40. The result indicated that STS teaching had more positive effects than the traditional teaching on enhancing student's attitude for science, academic achievement in science, inquiry ability, attitude for environment and knowledge for environment. Especially, it had shown the most positive effects on improvement in the attitude for environment. Therefore, it might be better to reflect these results for the best effect of STS teaching. To assess STS education on the whole, it is necessary to synthesize the effects of STS teaching and learning model and the results of the study on teachers' and students' understanding about the interrelation of science, technology and society.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the socio-demographic factors and the Korean consumers palatability evaluation grades with Hanwoo sensory evaluation data from 2006 to 2008 by National Institute of Animal Science. The dichotomy logistic regression model and the multinomial logistic regression model are fitted with the independent variables such as the consumer living location, age, gender occupation, monthly income, beef cut and the the palatability grade as the categorical dependent variable and tenderness, 리avor and juiciness as the continuous dependent variable. Stepwise variable selection procedure is incorporated to find the final model and odds ratios are calculated to nd the associations between categories.

  • This study explores spatial and temporal evloution of Dak Lak as one of coffee frontiers in Vietnam. So far, many authiors have studied this region under the framework of global-local interactions and emphasized the impacts from global coffee market. However not only unique past situation as the underdeveloped frontier and also the interventions of Vietamese government for transforming her socioeconomic system have played not less pivotal role than the global market in forging the present geography of Dak Lak. Under this logic, this study have traced restucturing in production system of state farms and smallholders' particpation in coffee farming. This study shows that various and unique localities as a frontier and specific situation accrued from transitional process has reflected in the present geography of coffee production in Dak Lak. Finally, this paper can be arguable to contribute some useful insights for understanding the evolution of coffee frontier in Vietnam.

  • Given the potential of mobile applications to create new learning opportunities beyond the prevalent use of digital textbooks and Internet lectures, this study aims to derive types and themes of mobile application content that can be effectively integrated with the school curricula. Twenty primary school teachers participated in this study that examines teachers' perceptions about the advantages and disadvantages of printed and digital textbooks' modality, the advantages and disadvantages of mobile learning, and the themes relevant to develop mobile applications. Findings indicate that it is necessary to develop activity-centered applications for vertical use rather than theme-centered applications for horizontal use. In addition, while most ideas derived from teachers center on multimedia access, there was lack of ideas that leverage the affordances of mobile devices for collaborative interaction and location-awareness. Lastly, to promote the diffusion of mobile learning in school environments, this study suggests the need to overcome teachers' epistemology that perceives mobilization against inquiry activities.
