In this paper, we present the process of developing an automatic carrying and arming system for testing ammunition. When carrying out shooting tests at a domestic rifle range, most of the ammunition operations are carried out by human manpower The series of test processes, such as transporting, arming and firing of heavy munitions, is repeated by employing human. If the ammunition is loaded via manpower, then problems can occur such as loss of reliability of test results, musculoskeletal disorders of humans and also safety accidents can occur. To address these problems, an automated system was developed for the transport and operation of ammunition. This paper covers the design, manufacture and operation of the developed system. In addition, this study validated the effectiveness of the system as compared to the human operation. Our results show that the developed system can be easily adapted to testing ammunition at a domestic rifle range.

This research concerns the characteristics of tank barrel inner flow according to the barrel length and the pressure of ammunition when fired. By analyzing the flow characteristics of the bore evacuator according to barrel length and ammunition pressure regarding ammunition design, it is possible to prevent the flareback phenomenon that may occur during ammunition operation. Through bore evacuator flow analysis by barrel length and ammunition pressure, we identified key design factors concerning barrel and ammunition compatibility including speed, accuracy, penetration performance and range. Test results found if barrel length is long and ammunition pressure is low, bore evacuator operation time is slow. Therefore, there is a high probability that propellant gas will enter the battle vehicle. Therefore, the correlation analysis method of bore evacuator flow characteristics based on barrel length and ammunition pressure is considered as a primary method to improve operational performance. When designing new ammunition, the correlation analysis method will be used to determine ammunition weight and select the propellant pressure.
Ammunition is an integral element of a weapon systems and in calculating fighting strength. The Korea Army utilizes the basic load (B/L) concept to supply ammunition smoothly. The required supply rate (RSR) is the basis of a B/L that is estimated from real combat data that includes a troop's mission and operation terrain. The current RSR is based on Korean War data and the sample mean has some problems in applications to modern combat. Therefore, this study used Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC) data that is similar to real combat to estimate rifle ammunition RSR. We used a quantile of truncated Weibull distribution to estimate rifle ammunition RSR considering that rifle ammunition consumption data in KCTC is truncated. As a result, we obtained a rifle ammunition RSR which covers most ammunition consumption by reflecting the individual consumption of rifle ammunition.

DELAY M9 is an ammunition used in combination with the fuse M904 and M905 of aviation drop-off ammunitions. Due to the properties of the ammunition, the performance or safety of the ammunition cannot be verified until it is used, because of its one-time function, no reproduction and is finally destroyed at the same time. Long-term storage of ammunition in use by the army is inevitable due to its operational characteristics, and a test evaluation is required to maintain and verify the performance of stored ammunition for immediate use in case of emergency. This paper estimates the reliability and shelf life of the DELAY M9 ammunition by using the test data obtained through ASRP performed from the past to the present. The result of the performance evaluation test for the currently stored DELAY M9 ammunition is analyzed, and the reliability and shelf-life of the stored ammunition are assessed by examining the number of defects according to the storage time and production year. This research result can be used to manage the stored ammunition, such as ASRP planning and evaluation test, result analysis and munition state decision.
Korea army is operating K-10 FAASV (Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle) for K-9 SP (Self-Propelled artillery) and examining employment of FAASV for K-55 SP. At present, the FAASV for K-55 SP has been developed as a prototype. To decide the employment of this FAASV for K-55 SP, previous research for operational effectiveness of this equipment is needed. Therefore in this paper, we presented the result of the operational effectiveness of the FAASV for K-55 SP using a wargame model, FEAM (Fire Execution Analytic Model) which is used to analyze formation, weapon system and operation in army artillery field. Based on the result of the FEAM simulation, we introduced the operational effectiveness of FAASV for K-55 SP, which is able to be applied to decide whether employ FAASV for K-55 SP or not.
There are many one-shot devices that are used once and thrown away. One-shot devices such as firecrackers and ammunition are typical, and they are stored for a while after manufacture and then disposed of after use when necessary. However, unlike general operating systems, these one-shot devices have not been properly evaluated. This study first examines what the government does to secure reliability in the case of ammunition through ammunition stockpile reliability program. Next, in terms of statistical analysis, we show what the reliability analysis methods are for one-shot devices such as ammunition. Specifically, we show that it is possible to know the level of reliability if sampling inspection plan such as KS Q 0001 which is acceptance sampling plan by attributes is used. Next, non-parametric and parametric methods are introduced as ways to determine the storage reliability of ammunition. Among non-parametric methods, Kaplan-Meier method can be used since it can also handle censored data. Among parametric methods, Weibull distribution can be used to determine the storage reliability of ammunition.

To predict the shelf-life of ammunition stockpiled in intermediate have practical meaning as a core value of combat support. This research is to Predict the shelf-life of ammunition by applying time series analysis based on report from ASRP of the 155mm, KD541 performed for 6 years. This study applied time series analysis using 'Mini-tab program' to measure the amount of stabilizer as time passes by is different from the other one that uses regression analysis. The average shelf-life of KD541 drawn by time series analysis was 43 years and the lowest shelf-life assessed on the 95% confidence level was 35 years.
This paper presented a method to build a predictable smart ammunition logistics system using the 4th industrial technology for ammunition logistics, which is the core functions in the field of defense and logistics. We have analyzed the current level of ammunition logistics with various perspectives such as domestic and overseas logistics policies, technology trends, ammunition logistics characteristics, the smart logistics certification measures by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. As a result it is considered that the current ammunition logistics needs needs improvement. To improve this, we presented a direction based on the implications derived after analyzing various ongoing programs such as wired/wireless-based automation, smart ammunition depots, and logistics innovation of the army, navy, and air force that can be applied to the ammunition logistics. In order to implement a data-based smart ammunition logistics management system that can achieve innovation and efficiency of total life cycle while meeting changes in the battlefield environment, we presented 4 objectives such as "automation and modernization of field work", "3D-based storage management & improvement of issuing at war," and "data management for prediction-oriented ammunition management". it is expected that there will be benefits such as improvement of operational continuity, guarantee of ammunition reliability, budget reduction, improvement of inefficiencies such as delay, waiting, and double work, and reduction of accidents.

ASRP(Ammunition Stockpile Reliability Program) Data is stored and operated in the field of evaluating the ammunition is not only the only field data but also the ammunition performance-oriented data can determine objectively the power of the artillery. However, ASRP has been used as a yardstick to judge the status of ammunitions stockpiled in the field. On the other hand re-evaluation of the accumulated data and in-depth research have not been carried out. A Study on the Effective Management of Artillery Ammunition using ASRP data suggests how to utilize the ASRP data to analyze and manage existing artillery forces whose focus is centered on increasing the performance of artillery ammunitions through setting the test intervals of deployed stockpiled ammunitions, forecasting the shelf-life of ammunitions, and analyzing the effectiveness of the military strength through modelling and simulation.

In this paper, the operational concept and the navigation algorithms for the gliding guided artillery munition are studied. The gliding guided artillery munition has wings for gliding; therefore spin of the munition should be eliminated. The previous navigation algorithms assumed a spinning munition with constant angular velocity; hence, they cannot be applied for the gliding munition. Moreover, lateral stability becomes worse due to decrease of angular momentum. Therefore, side force should be controlled to improve the stability, and the munition should maneuver, then the previous navigation algorithms for typical fixed-wing aircraft cannot be applied. In this paper, we apply the previous navigation algorithms for the spinning munition. Spin is eliminated and wings are deployed based on the estimation results, and the advanced navigation algorithm for the non-spinning munition is introduced.
