  • e-Learning has been mushrooming with wide range of learning groups from pedagogy to andragogy. Despite of increasing e-learning opportunities, many people doubt whether e-learning learners really learn something. The related research papers emphasized that e-Learning would be a failure in terms of understanding of e-learners and intuitive learning activities for activating learner's long-term memory span. The current learning strategies in e-Learning may be based on the traditional classroom, and this results in boring and ineffective learning outcomes. This paper analyzed that how learners have received e-Learning for the last few years from the research and explained what could be the failing aspects of e-Learning. To be successful, e-Learning should consider the e-Learner's individualized teaming style and thinking patterns. When considering of various e-Learning components, the quality of e-learning should not be focused on any specific single factor, but develop every individual factor to the high level of quality. In conclusion, this paper suggest that we need new understand of e-Learning and e-Learner. Also the e-Learning strategies should be examined throughly whether they are on the side of learners and realized how they learn from e-Learning. Finally, we should add enormous imagination into e-Learning for next generation because their teaming patterns significantly differ from their parent's generation.

  • This study analyses the needs of workers at foreigners-only casinos in Korea on English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It also examines the most ideal English instructor for them and the motivations for their learning English. A total of ninety-nine casino workers in Seoul and Busan participated in the survey. Of the four language skills, English speaking is the most necessary area for them to learn and listening is the second. The most difficult part of communicating in English for them to learn is also speaking, followed by listening. This indicates that the area that they need to study and the area in which they have difficulty communicating in English have the same ranking. The participants in the marketing department had the longest working hours in English, and they were significantly different from those in other departments. Regardless of their departments, the participants responded that speaking is the most necessary area to learn English. They mentioned that their biggest motivation for learning English is self-realization, followed by smooth work. The most ideal English instructor was a Korean instructor with casino working experience, followed by a bilingual Korean instructor. This showed their preference for Korean English teachers with casino working experience. This study might be meaningful since it provides information on a new field, casino workers, by analyzing their needs on ESP. It is suggested that this may contribute to setting the direction of English curriculum for casino workers in the future.

  • This paper aims to explore the vocabulary difference between South and North Korean English textbooks as a first step toward a unified vocabulary list. To this end, both South and North Korean English textbooks in 2000s and 2010s are digitized into a corpus of text files, and a vocabulary list is constructed based on the corpus with reference to its concordances for the vocabulary use and contexts using AntConc 3.5.7. The vocabulary list of North Korean English textbooks are compared and found in their differences of quantity and quality of the English vocabulary in English education. Both quantitative and qualitative differences are found in between South and North Korean English textbook corpus. Both South and North aim that students learn about 3,000 words throughout the English education. North Korean English textbook contains more special academic vocabulary while South Korean English textbook is constrained by a strict vocabulary control which does not allow such a flexibility. Differences of vocabulary and their use are caused by the capitalistic market economy of South and the socialists' planned economy of North. Differences are also attributed to the religious words and grammatical vocabulary appearance.

  • The nursing education with evidence-based practice(EBP) should set a differentiated education strategy according to the level of the learner, so that the students experience it step by step and it leads them to be skilled. The purpose of this study was to integrate and operate the EBP in the fundamental nursing classes of the second grade students and to verify the effectiveness on improvement of EBP basic competency of them. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 108 students in the second year of nursing at the two universities. The experimental group participated in the class for 8 weeks and 24 hours during the 15-weeks, second semester 2016 and the control group participated in general fundamental nursing class. Data were collected proactivity in problem solving, future use of EBP, and critical thinking disposition instrument and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 program with Chi-square test, independent t-test. The experimental group had a significant increase in proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference in critical thinking disposition between the two groups. Findings indicate that the fundamental nursing class used EBP was an effective lesson to improve proactivity in problem solving and future use of EBP, which is the EBP basic competency for the lower grader. Long-term efforts are needed to improve the EBP competence and critical thinking of nursing students by curriculum appropriate to grade-based goals of EBP.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of early health status on income status as young old adults grow older. Using Korean Retirement & Income Study(KReiS), this study finally included 923 older adults who were fully present from the first wave (2005) to the sixth wave (2015) for 10 years. The results of descriptive analysis show that the difference of income occurs due to the difference of health status at the early old age. In other words, older adults with good health status at the early old age(56 ~ 60 years old) have a relatively higher income level for 10 years compared with older adults with poor healthy status. In multiple regression analysis, the results represent that the better the health condition in early age, the higher the gross individual income, controlling for gender, spouse, and education level. In addition, older adults with good health at early old age stage have higher income level than those with poor health at early old age stage. The difference by health status continues as they are getting old. Therefore, this study suggests several policies and practical alternatives to improve the early health condition and to reduce the negative impact of early health condition on old age income.
