A Study on Immersion Degree of Players Depending on Figurative Characteristics of Game Characters (게임 캐릭터의 조형적 특성에 따른 플레이어의 몰입도에 관한 연구)

  • This study is intended to compare and analyze the figurative characteristics of game characters focusing on the MMO shooting game 'Battle Ground' and the MOVA game 'League of Legends,' which currently have the largest number of users in Korea, in order to assess how much effect the figurative shape of game characters has on the immersion of players. As a result, the shape of characters from MOVA or MMORPG games with storytelling as an important factor was revealed to have a greater effect on the immersion degree of players than that of the characters from fast-paced shooting games. In particular, it was found that in games where the level of each character is raised as items are added, the height of most characters is the same as their own eight or nine heads, which is longer than ordinary people.

  • The 21st century is as an age of culture, and cultural goods presenting the cultural spirit of one nation should reflect the tradition, culture, and techniques of that nation. The twelve horary signs of the gods are the creatures of our nation's native religion and thought have existed from the unified Silla period to today. Therefore, many things belong to the category of cultural goods, but in this study the guidelines for the design of cultural goods are limited to the characters of the twelve horary signs. For this study concept and classification of cultural goods, Korean traditional formative special qualities, concepts and composite elements, symbolic meanings and special qualities, personifications, and unique images of twelve horary signs of are researched. According to the results of the research guidelines for the design of cultural goods, images of cultural goods, classifications applying to each subject, the formative special qualities of Korean traditions, personifications, and concepts on the development of cultural goods are presented..

  • The characters that could be connected to diverse cultural contents have formed diverse platforms with the development of digital technology, and the size of the relevant industry and market is rapidly growing. Recently, the utilization of character emoticons for smartphone messenger has been rapidly increased, so that the characters are settled down as a tool for non-verbal communication, on top of drawing attention as an independent area. With the expansion of character market, the importance of design that could give interest and familiarity to consumers is more emphasized. The body proportion of characters includes the implicative and symbolic meanings that could express diverse personalities. Thus, this study examined the body proportion of the characters with the high consumers' preference, and then analyzed the characteristics of formative elements of character design in accordance with the body proportion. In the results of the analysis, the exaggerated form of SD characters in two or three-head figure, and the realistic Real characters in seven or eight-head figure were preferred. For the SD characters, the colors with a high chroma showing the cute and cheerful image were used. For the Real characters, the cubic effect was expressed through the colors with active images and the light and shade of color. Even though the SD characters have limited motions due to the omitted body parts, the facial movements of animation characters are exaggerated while the Real characters describe the realistic and dynamic motions.

  • 최근 CF의 추세는 인기스타보다 캐릭터 모델들이 대거 등장하여 시청자들의 이목을 끌고 있다. CF에 캐릭터가 활용되는 경우는 표현기법의 특수성과 무한한 표현 가능성을 생각할 때 정보전달 효율성과 고만고만한 광고의 홍수 속에 조금이라도 튀어보려는 차별화의 필요성에 의해서다. 이에 본 연구에서는 현재 국내 CF에서 다양한 기법으로 표현되는 캐릭터의 활용 현황을 살펴보고 광고 효과를 극대화 할 수 있는 표현방법을 제시하는데 있다.

  • Since the advent of digital games with hardware development a key component of the game characters are changed to retard the rate at which types of users based on their favorite theory of human proportion. Many popular to gamers in the game according to the change in the retard rate in a unique image of the character. Studies on the head and body proportion are thought that up to now been insufficient. The purpose of this study is to examine a fundamental human proportion that has importance as a molding factor in the game character development, it investigated the characteristics of the game character, and classifying the retard rate of the game character, through the research method of analyzing the results, into the retard rate look for and investigate studying the effect on future game images. Five types of game characters that make up the analysis were analyzed with a unique image, and the more specialized users prefer retard rate, the figurative exaggeration to retard rate than the actual main body. Utilizing a bit exaggerated the difficulties of the character looks relatively small proportion character in the graphic wallpaper increased visibility. The proportion of a game character through the study is considered as a very important factor as the game image in the game development.

  • We can anticipate that animations will form one of the axes and lead popular culture in our future visual age. Recently, research has been actively conducted, but it mainly focuses on their value in culture industry or technologies and methods of producing animations. Of course, research that deals with animation characters has constantly come out. This study focuses on the 'formative elements' of 3D animation characters and attempts differentiation from other research by inducing new logic theoretically. Being freed from the research on characters that has been merely focused on theoretical grounds, this study intends to figure out how audience that is consumers who actually get to watch and feel animations recognizes them and find out related problems and also solutions for them. In particular, this study intends to examine the formative characteristics of 3D animation characters with the characters appearing in , one of the animations that have achieved artistic value as well as commercial success. And for that, the study conducted not only literature review but various surveys and Delphi method as well. Also, the researcher devised an analysis frame to evaluate the formative elements through in-depth discussion with experts. And with this, the study created the forms such as the Elements of Form, Formation Methods of Form and Visual Recognition Elements of Form, examined how audience recognized 3D characters. The process of recognizing an image is influenced by socio-cultural environment or sex, age, and the level of knowledge differently. This was meant to investigate current visual culture and the public's perspective through characters in that represent the visual mode.

  • Recent Chinese animations emphasize the harmony between content and form, as well as the fusion of reality, emotion, and aesthetic ideals, through character designs that blend traditional cultural elements with modern aesthetic sensibilities. We have observed that this fusion has significantly contributed to the development of the Chinese animation industry. In particular, "Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child" stands out as an important example, where traditional character images are reinterpreted in a modern way, showcasing a unique artistic direction. In this study, we have conducted an in-depth analysis of the major characters in "Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child", focusing on their form, acting, and movement elements based on the theoretical foundation of traditional Chinese aesthetics.We explored how traditional Chinese costumes, totems, and painting styles were utilized in the design of the characters' forms, and discovered that these elements imparted a distinctive artistic quality. Furthermore, we found that the acting and movement elements were influenced by Chinese cultural practices, traditional theater, and martial arts, enriching the characters' motions and expressions. Through this research, we aim to highlight how Chinese animation integrates tradition and modernity, creating new artistic value, and establishing a unique competitive edge in the global animation market.

A Study on the Characteristics of Character Modeling Art in Shanxi Shadow Puppetry (산시성 피영극 캐릭터 조형예술특징에 관한 연구)

  • Shadow puppetry (皮影戏) is a traditional Chinese folk art that was inscribed in 2011 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This study focuses on analyzing the character sculptures, colors, and patterns recorded in professional books from Shanxi Province in northern China. The findings indicate that Shanxi shadow puppetry can be categorized into two types. The 'Xiaoyi' in northern Shanxi mainly features characters from the story of 'The Investiture of the Gods' (封神演义) and is characterized by the use of both intaglio and relief carving, dark colors, and a paper screen background. The 'Houma' shadow puppetry in southern Shanxi is influenced by the traditional Shanxi opera 'Jinju' (晋剧) and features four roles: Sheng (生), Dan (旦), Jing (净), and Chou (丑), using a mesh screen background. Shadow puppetry represents costumes, beliefs, lifestyles, social status, social systems, and Confucian culture from the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties, utilizing both intaglio and relief elements, and traditional five-element colors(五行色). This study aims to understand the characteristics of the modeling art in Shanxi shadow puppetry, and to maintain the traditional craft features while adding innovative elements from animation and film, thereby promoting and preserving the traditional values of shadow puppetry culture for children and youth.

  • Customizing system is acting a main role for the character production system of MMORPG. However, since using the high degree of freedom in MMORPG, these characters are too individual and lack of awareness. We can describe each character's emotional characteristics and understand the correlation of characters more easily by adjusting design factors capable of cognitive decision to characters. Game character developer should consider seeking efficient character design process that is suitable to MMORPG game environment and users for proper character recognition and promoting character preferences. In addition, this research being extended on the article vol.13, no.3, "A Study on Cognitive and Preference of Games' Character" on Korean Society of Basic Design in June 2012 issue and this study is expected to have effectives as one method for the purpose of this research is to inquire and present what type of relation lies between recognition and preference of game characters of MMORPG.
