Phosphate is an essential material for the growth of organisms. However. since relatively small amount is required. a large amount of phosphate is abandoned in wastes and wastewater. which contaminate the ecological environment including aquatic system. Purpose of this study is to treat especially high concentrated phosphate wastewater by use of calcium precipitation method. The pH range considered was from 6 to 12 and the maximum removal of phosphate was attained at pH 12. The con-centration of phosphate was observed to decrease rapidly until a half amount of calcium ion to its equivalent for the formation of calcium phosphate precipitate was added. which resulted in the decrease of the remaining concentration of phosphate down to 0.0027 mM. The effect of fluoride ion was examined and the concentration ratio between the phosphate and fluoride ion did not have any significant influence on the removal efficiency of phosphate. The effect of pH was also investigated. With the increasing of the pH in solution, the removal rate of phosphate was increased. Also it was investigated that the effect of fluoride on the phosphate removal was not significant.
It is well known that new tissue or blood vessel is grown into a porous calcium phosphate ceramics used as a bone graft substitute due to their excellent biocompatibility. In this study, the most chemically stable porous $\beta$-crystalline form in various forms of calcium metaphosphate, Ca(PO$_3$)$_2$is prepared by the controlled thermolysis of monocalcium phosphate, Ca(H$_2$PO$_4$)$_2$.The diameter of cylindrical pores formed during cooling was controlled by a holding time at the melting point of a monocalcium phosphate and by the change of a crystallization temperature, to obtain the most appropriate size (about 200$\mu$m) of pores for the application of bone substitutes and matricuts. It was observed that the increasing holding time at the melting point of monocalcium phosphate results in the decreases of cylindrical pore sizes.
Purpose: Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystal deposition disease(CPPD) is a disease of the elderly and extremely rare in young individuals. If young people develop CPPD crystal deposition disease, it may be associated with metabolic diseases, such as hemochromatosis, hyperparathyroidism, hypophosphatasia, hypomagnesemia, Wilson's disease, hypothyroidism, and gout. Materials and Methods: Therefore, in young-onset CPPD crystal deposition disease, an investigation of any predisposing metabolic conditions is warranted. Conclusion: We report a case of a young female patient who presented with idiopathic CPPD crystal deposition disease at 25 years of age.

In this study, we investigated phosphate removal efficiency according to pretreatment (pyrolysis temperature, pyrolysis time, particle size) of oyster shells as a basic study for their recycling. And XAFS analysis and isothermal adsorption experiments were performed to investigate the phosphate removal characteristics of oyster shells. As a result, the removal efficiency was good at $600^{\circ}C$ pyrolysis temperature with 6 hour pyrolysis time and 0.355 ~ 0.075 mm particle size. Isothermal adsorption experiments showed that the Langmuir model is suitable for adsorption of oyster shells. XAFS analysis showed that calcium phosphate formed on the oyster shell pyrolyzed at $600^{\circ}C$. In other words, it was confirmed that the formation of calcium phosphate by the calcium ion elution of the oyster shell contributes to the decrease of phosphate concentration.

A farming area located near an abandoned copper mine in GuPo-ri, Choongchung province is heavily contaminated with heavy metals such as As, Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn of which concentrations are higher than the values typically detected in Korean soil environment. In this work, laboratory and field studies were conducted to examine feasibility of using Ca-citrate-phosphate solution in stabilizing heavy metals in the polluted soils. In laboratory batch experiments with field soil, the addition of Ca-citrate-phosphate solution resulted in decrease of aqueous phase concentration of phosphate and improvement of heavy metal stabilization, compared to those for sterilized soil samples. This indicates that microbial uptake of phosphate may have provided positive effects on availability of phosphate toward heavy metal stabilization. According to microbial community analysis for the field experiment, the use of Ca-citrate-phosphate led to increased diversity of microbial populations, and strict anaerobic microorganisms such as Anaerofilum and Treponema became the most dominant populations in the solution-amended field experiments. These findings suggest that, when Ca-citrate-phosphate is used for heavy metal stabilization in soils, microbial processes may have important roles in improving the stabilization of heavy metals by providing reducing conditions to the treatment locations or/and by making phosphate available to heavy metal stabilization.

As an elementary investigation to develop vegetation concrete with a relatively low pH value, magnesia-phosphate composites (MPC) were examined according to the phosphate types including Monoammonium, Monosodium, Monopotassium, Monocalcium, Diammonium, Disodium, Dipotassium, and Diacalcium phosphates. All of the MPC binders, the ratio of magnesia to phosphate was fixed to be 7:3. MPC mortars activated with Disodium, Dipotassium, and Diacalcium phosphates showed no compressive strength gain, even at age of 28 days. Meanwhile, MPC mortars with Monoammonium and Monosodium phosphates developed 28-day compressive strength of more than 34MPa, and showed a relatively low pH value below 9.8. Hence, Monoammonium and Monosodium phosphates have potentials as an activator for producing MPC-based vegetation concrete.

In order to reduce the availability of dissolved inorganic phosphorus in surface water, lakes, and estuaries, black shale and zero valent iron can be used as reacitve materials. Sorption of phosphate to sampled sediment, black shale, and zero valent iron was quantitatively evaluated in this research. Effect of coexistence of calcium was also tested, since coexisting ions can enhance the precipitation of phosphate. An empirical kinetic model with fast sorption(k$_t$), slow sorption(k$_s$), and precipitation(k$_p$) was well fitted to experiment data from this research. Langmuir and Freundlich sorption isotherms were also used to evaluated phosphate maximum sorption capacity. Calcium ions at 0, 1 and 5 mM affected the precipitation kinetic coefficient in empirical kinetic model but did not have impact on the maximum sorbed concentration.
