The Effects of Emotional Intelligence and Resilience on Stress Coping Strategies for Health-care Promotion in Dental Hygiene Students (치위생과 학생의 헬스케어 증진을 위한 감성지능과 회복탄력성이 스트레스 대처방식에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out in order to arrange a plan available for efficiently alleviating stress through confirming factors of affecting the stress coping strategies in dental hygiene students. As for data collection, the questionnaire survey was conducted targeting 198 dental hygiene students at the university where is located in Jeonbuk area. The analytical processing was made with descriptive statistics, Anova, correlation analysis and regression analysis by using IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0. As a result, the emotional intelligence showed a significant relevance with resilience(r=.757, p<.001) and stress coping strategies(r=.563, p<.001). Resilience reflected a significant relationship with a stress coping strategies(r=.456, p<.001). Also, emotional intelligence(β=.344, p<.001) and resilience(β=.148, p<.032) were identified to have influence upon a stress coping strategies. Based on the outcome of this study, the basic data was suggested in preparing a plan available for increasing a stress coping strategies in dental hygiene students. The necessity of a follow-up research was proposed.

Relationships between physical pain and preventive actions against musculoskeletal diseases among dental hygiene students (치위생과 재학생들의 신체통증과 근골격계질환 지식 및 예방행위)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships between the degree of physical pain and the knowledge and preventive actions of musculoskeletal diseases among dental hygiene students with a potential risk of contracting those diseases and thus to help them prevent them. A survey was taken among 207 sophomores and juniors specializing in dental hygiene at S1 and S2, Gyeonggi Province in the area of physical pain, knowledge of musculoskeletal diseases, and preventive actions against them. The findings were as follows: 1. The mean scores of the sophomore in the knowledge of musculoskeletal diseases were $6.20{\pm}2.21$, and those of the juniors were $6.72{\pm}2.29$. The mean scores of the sophomores and juniors in the preventive actions against musculoskeletal diseases were $22.50{\pm}2.37$ and $22.29{\pm}3.01$, respectively. 2. The subjects displayed severe physical pain in the lower back, shoulder, and neck in the descending order and medium physical pain in the neck, shoulder, and lower back in the descending order. 3. The higher level knowledge of musculoskeletal diseases they had, the less physical pain they felt. And there were significant differences among the shoulder, lower back, hip, ankle, and foot. 4. There were relationships between physical pain and the preventive actions against musculoskeletal diseases in "placing the hands at the height of the elbows during treatment", "reducing such positions as bending and extending during treatment", "narrowing the distance with the patient", "taking regular breaks during treatment for recovery", "trying not to incline the neck, back, arm, and wrist as much as possible", and "trying to keep the torso in the neutral position." 5. As for the education about musculoskeletal diseases, 74 sophomores(88.10%) and 102 juniors(89.74%) answered they received no such education. The results suggest that there should be some instructions to help dental hygiene students practice the preventive actions against musculoskeletal diseases and further prevention programs against those diseases.

Interpersonal Skills Caused by Emotional Intelligence and Ego Resilience of Students Majoring in Dental Hygiene (치위생(학)과 학생의 감성지능과 자아탄력성이 대인관계능력에 미치는 영향)

  • Four hundreds and eighty-seven dental hygiene students were selected and a questionnaire survey was carried out to find out how emotional intelligence and ego resiliency affect interpersonal skills so that this can be the basis to enhance their interpersonal skills. PASW statistics 18.0 was used for analysis, results are as follows: It was statistically significant that students with higher emotional intelligence and ego resiliency and good interpersonal skills answered that they had high economic standard of living (p<0.001, p<0.05). Students raised by parents showed high emotional intelligence and ego resiliency (p<0.05), same result was shown among religious students too (p<0.05). Students with high ego resiliency showed better interpersonal skills (p<0.001), and ego resiliency influenced more on interpersonal skills than emotional intelligence. Therefore, curriculum to develop emotional intelligence and ego resiliency of dental hygiene students to improve their interpersonal skills which is one of the core competences of dental hygienist needs to be planned in the course.

The Effect of Adaptation Education on Performance Confidence and Practical Skill of Dental Hygiene Students before Field Practice (현장실습 전 현장적응교육이 치위생과 재학생의 수행자신감과 실무능력에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the degree of improvement in performance confidence and executive ability after conducting field adaptation education to dental hygiene students who start their first field practice. Thirty dental hygiene students were evaluated with performance confidence, indirect and direct evaluation of practical skill before and after the field adaptation education was conducted for 15 hours. Also field practice satisfaction was investigated after field practice. A paired t-test was conducted to compare performance confidence, indirect executive ability, and direct practical ability before and after education. Pearson's correlation was performed on the correlation between field adaptation education and field practice satisfaction. Linear regression analysis was performed to identify the influencing factors of field practice satisfaction. As a results, performance confidence, indirect and direct practical skills of after field adaptation program were increased than before that(p<0.05). The correlation between field adaptation education and field practice satisfaction showed that "education satisfaction" among the field adaptation education sub-regions correlated with "education content" and "support of field practice" among the field practice satisfaction sub-regions(p<0.05). Therefore, it is necessary to develop and management various adaptation education in the future as it increases the adaptability of the first field practice and increases the satisfaction of field practice.

Awareness Levels and Influencing Factors of Sexual Harassment among Dental Hygiene Students (치위생 전공 대학생의 성희롱 인식 수준 및 관련 요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of dental hygiene students on sexual harrassment in an effort to provide some information on the prevention of sexual harrassment. The subjects in this study were 738 dental hygiene students at colleges located in four different large regions. As for the concept of sexual harrassment, the students got 4.33 out of a possible five in that regard, which was a high score. But they got a relatively lower score of 3.42 in awareness of the causes of sexual harrassment. They got the highest score of 4.42 in physical sexual harrassment among different types of sexual harrassment. Regarding the offender of sexual harrassment, they got 2.81 out of a possible five, which was lowest among their scores in the items of sexual harrassment awareness. There were statistically significant differences in sexual harrassment awareness according to gender, age, grade and religion. The above-mentioned findings of the study illustrated that the dental hygiene students were well aware of sexual harrassment in general, but that the way they coped with it was quite passive. The development of educational programs on how to prevent sexual harrassment and cope with it is required to spread better awareness of sexual harrassment among college students and to encourage them to properly cope with it.

The Study on Needs of Health college students on Extracurricular Programs (보건계열 대학생의 비교과 교육프로그램 요구도 조사)

  • This study was conducted to improve the direction of extracurriculular education for health students and to establish and systematic extracurricular education and operation system. The needs and priorities of extracurricular education programs were investigated through a survey of health students. The data were analyzed by Borich's needs and The Locus for Focus Model. As a result of priorities of extracurriculular programs according to Borich's needs, the top 10 programs included 'certification', 'career exploration', 'overseas service', 'second language', 'employment education', 'talent donation', 'English', 'computer utilization', and 'major convergence learning'. As a result of priorities by applying The Locus for Focus Model, 'certification', 'career exploration', 'employment education', 'foreign service', 'English', 'domestic service', 'second foreign language', 'talent donation', and 'computer utilization' was included. A total of nine programs were derived by combining Borich and The Locus for Focus Model, and priorities were 'certification', 'career exploration', 'overseas service', 'second foreign language', 'employment education', 'talent donation', 'English', 'computer utilization', and 'domestic service'. As a result of this study, health students had a high needs for comparison programs for employment and volunteer programs, so universities should reflect this and establish a comparison program operation system for health students.

The Effects of Emotional Perception on Major Satisfaction among Students at the Department of Dental Hygiene (치위생과 학생의 정서적 인식이 전공만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to measure such features of emotional responses perceived by students as learning climate, department living stress, and perceived helplessness to analyze their effects on major satisfaction among students at the department of dental hygiene; to do this, a survey was conducted with 431 students, regardless of college year, who were at the department of dental hygiene in four colleges in Gyeonggi Province, Daejeon, and Chungcheong Province. An existing emotion scale which went through the generalization process was used to draw a multiple model in the combination form in order to collect emotional factors affecting college students' satisfaction with their major, which had existed as a hypothetical proposition, and make overall interpretation of relevance through the explainable, predictable modeling process by measuring emotional factors and phenomenal description of the level of general perception. The results showed that major satisfaction was very significantly affected by emotional features among students at the department of dental hygiene, which needs to be treated as an important factor to enhance expertise related to major learning and improve students' living.

  • This study attempted to apply flip-learning and to evaluate college students' awareness and academic achievements. Twenty-seven students in single-group dental hygiene were applied to the dental radiology class for four weeks. Data collection was done after the flipped-learning and collected data were analyzed using frequency, average and content analysis using SPSS 18.0. As a result, awareness of overall class was a positive response, and academic achievement evaluation was not statistically significant. It was found to be an effective educational program. However, the academic achievement evaluation was not statistically significant and it was considered that the evaluation system needs to be different according to the learning method.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide students with basic information about the stress of the national examination and the stress of the students who have difficulties in school life and the development of counseling and education program for satisfactory academic life. The survey of the 213 students of dental hygiene departments in Chungcheong, Gyungsang region was carried out. As a result of SPSS 3.0 analysis, the index of happiness Satisfaction was the highest points. Happiness index showed statistically significant difference in gender, personality, friendship, academic achievement, pocket money satisfaction, and health status. There was statistically significant difference between the major and the major in satisfaction, personality, friendship, motivation, and power status, and happiness index and major satisfaction were statistically significant.

  • In this study, survey is conducted to make aware of importance which personal protection was accomplished at the dentistry. It investigated the performance of infection control and X-ray safety management to the third grade of D-Health College. 1. The infection control is recognized to high level and practiced certainly at actual training of oral prophylaxis. 2. The infection control is recognized to low level relatively at actual training of radiography. 3. The infection control is not practiced at actual training of radiography except for the film holder. 4. The X-ray safety management is recognized to high level and conducted certainly at actual training of radiography. To consider the above result, the infection control is not nearly practiced at radiography. In accordance with, the education must be demanded that the infection control is practiced throughly at radiography for raising a necessary against the recognization and practice of the infection control.
