This study's purpose is to determine the effects of aroma inhalation on preoperative pain and anxiety of the elderly preparing to undergo a spine surgery. A Quasi-experimental design, with non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used in this study. Blended essential oils with frankincense, marjoram and mandarin were inhaled twice in the experimental group (n=30). The control group (n=30) was treated with the standard preoperative care. Pain, state anxiety, and vital sign were measured twice (before and after). The results of this study showed that pain (t=-1.223, p=.226), systolic blood pressure (t=-0.211, p=.833), diastolic blood pressure (t=0.638, p=.526), and respiration rate (t=0.734, p=.466) were not statistically significant in the experimental and the control group. There were significant differences in state anxiety (t=-3.202, p=.002) and pulse rate (t=-0.213, p=.037) in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the results, aroma inhalation is an effective nursing intervention for relieving anxiety in surgical patients.

Steel pile foundations are widely used for offshore constructions due to their high bearing capacity and efficiency. Typically, offshore structures that have reached the end of their design life are required to be demolished. However, pile foundations are often left on site due to technical and economic limitations. The pile left on the site not only pollutes the environment, but can also cause obstacles for the construction of new structures. Therefore, research is required to completely eliminate these foundations at the site. In this study, a new type of double-wall pile foundation that can drastically reduce the pull-out load was conceptually proposed, and a series of model tests were performed to validate the performance of the double-wall pile foundation. The installation and extraction of the double-wall pile were simulated in dry sand in the model test, and the measured up-lift load was compared to that of the conventional pile. According to the result, the maximum up-lift load induced by the decommissioning of the double-wall pile was reduced by 45% when compared to the traditional pile in dense sand. This study verified the mechanism for reducing the up-lift load of the double-wall foundation and confirmed the possibility of completely decommissioning a pile that has reached the end of its nominal service life.

In Korea, low-quality kaolin has significantly greater reserves and superior economic efficiency than high-purity kaolin. However, the utilization is low because it does not match the demand conditions of the market, and it is difficult to find a suitable source of demand. The purpose of this study is to derive the possibility and optimal calcination temperature of domestic low-quality kaolin that can be used as a raw material for limestone plastic clay cement (LC3). Isothermal calorimetry, X-ray diffraction analysis, Thermogravimetric Analysis, and compressive strength tests were conducted to evaluate hydrate generation and mechanical properties of LC3 paste according to calcination temperatures (600 ℃, 700 ℃, 800 ℃, 900 ℃). As a result, although 50 % of the clinker was replaced, the domestic low-quality kaolin clay produced calboaluminate hydrate and C(A)SH from the 3rd day of hydration, showing almost equal or higher strength to OPC, and there was a big difference in strength depending on the firing temperature.

In this study, the conditions of low temperature and high pressure of biogas upgrading process using polysulfone membrane have been designed and tested to achieve the high recovery and efficiency corresponding to those of the highly selective polymeric materials. Polysulfone hollow fiber membrane with 4-component dope solution was spun via non-solvent induced phase separation. The hollow fiber membrane was mounted into a 1.5 inch housing. The effective area was 1.6 m2, and its performance was examined in various operation temperatures and pressures. CO2 and CH4 permeances were 412 and 12.7 GPU at 20℃, and 280 and 3.6 GPU at -20℃, respectively, while the CO2/CH4 selectivity increased from 32.4 to 77.8. Single gas test was followed by the mixed gas experiments using single-stage and double stage where the membrane area ratio varied from 1:1 to 1:3. At the single-stage, CH4 purity increased and the recovery decreased as the stage-cut increased. At the double stage, the area ratio of 1:3 showed the higher CH4 recovery as decreasing the operation temperature at the same purity of CH4 97%. Finally, polysulfone hollow fiber membranes have yielded of both CH4 purity and recovery of 97% at -20℃ and 16 barg.

As the latest weapon systems and electronic equipments are increasingly demanding stealth technology to improve the survivability of allies, it is necessary to implement low-observability technology that reduces the radar cross section(RCS). In order to implement this stealth technology, a method for low RCS characteristics by applying a shape design or a electromagnetic wave absorber is widely used. However, active phased array antennas have structural limitations in shape design, also when a absorber is applied to it, the performance of the antenna is degraded. Therefore, in this paper, in order to realize the low RCS characteristics of the active phased array antenna operating in the X-band, individual radiating elements suitable for applying the radio wave absorber were selected, and a 13x13 array antenna was designed and manufactured. Next, by comparing the measured results of the relative RCS and electrical performance for the manufactured antenna according to the presence and type of the absorber, it is shown that the electrical performance is maintained at an equal or higher level while obtaining the low RCS characteristics. Thereby the method proposed in this paper for implementing the low RCS characteristics was validated. Finally, it was confirmed that when the wave absorber is applied to the array antenna, the limitation of its performance deterioration can be overcome.
This study was designed to evaluate effects of Patients Empowerment Program for Schizophrenia (PEPS) on Empowerment, Internalized Stigma, Self-esteem, and Quality of Life, in people with chronic schizophrenia living in a rural community. A non-equivalent control group repeated measures design was used. Participants were 22 persons with chronic schizophrenia enrolled from O Province Mental Health Welfare Center, South Korea. (experimental group= 10, control group = 12). The PEPS was administered to the experimental group, consisting of 16 sessions delivered twice a week for 8 weeks. SPSS/WIN 26.0 was used to analyze the collected data using χ2-test, independent t-test, Fisher's exact test, and repeated measures ANOVA. Upon completion of PEPS, the experimental group showed a significantly increased in Self-esteem (F=6.09, p=.005) and Quality of Life (F=3.37, p=.044) as compared to the control group. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups between Empowerment and Internalized Stigma. The results suggest that the PEPS may be an effective intervention for improving Self-esteem and Quality of Life.
Purpose: This research was conducted to determine the effects of a multifactorial fall prevention program applying HSEP(Home Support Exercise Program) on physical balance and gait, leg strength, fear of falling and falls efficacy of the community-dwelling elderly. Method: The design of this study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. There were 20 subjects in the experimental group and 21 in the control group. The fall prevention program consists of HSEP and fall related education. The intervention was performed for once a week in the senior citizen center and twice a week at home for 8 weeks. Results: There were significant differences in physical balance and gait, leg strength(hip extensor, hip flexor, knee flexor, ankle plantarflexor, ankle dorsiflexor) and falls efficacy between the experimental group and control group. Conclusion : The fall prevention program applying HSEP used in this study was very effective in increasing physical balance and gait, leg strength and falls efficacy. Finally this study would recommended that a fall prevention program applying HSEP should be extended to community facilities such as elderly welfare center and nursing home.
This study evaluated the consistency between the web-based and paper-based mibyeong and cold-heat pattern questionnaire, the Korean medicine-based tool for diagnosing and classifying health status. First, a web-based survey was conducted on 72 ordinary people; subsequently, a paper-based survey was conducted after a certain time interval. The equivalence between the web-based and paper-based surveys was evaluated on the basis of the consistency between scores using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman methodology. The mibyeong questionnaire showed high reliability for the web-based and paper-based surveys (ICC=0.95, 95% CI 0.92 - 0.97), and the cold-heat pattern questionnaire showed high reliability for both cold syndrome (ICC=0.98, 95% CI 0.96 - 0.99) and heat syndrome (ICC=0.9, 95% CI 0.83 - 0.93). The difference in average scores between the two survey methods was -0.25 for the mibyeong survey, -0.17 for the cold syndrome, and 0.11 for the heat syndrome, showing a similar pattern. Among the respondents, 84% showed positive satisfaction with the web-based survey, and 80% preferred the web-based survey. Overall, this study confirmed the reliability and feasibility of the web-based survey methods for the mibyeong and cold-heat pattern questionnaire. This could be a useful tool for the follow-up of subjects in long-term cohort studies.
This study is designed to verify the actual effect on the prevention of the elderly suicide of the integrated crisis intervention service which has been widely provided across all local communities in Gyeonggi-province focusing on the integrated crisis intervention model developed for the prevention of elderly suicide. The integrated crisis intervention model for the local communities and its manual were developed for the prevention of elderly suicide by integrating the crisis intervention theory which contains local community's integrated system approach and the stress vulnerability theory. For the analysis of the effect, the geriatric depression and suicidal ideation scale was adopted and the data was collected as follows; The data was collected from 258 people in the first preliminary test. Then, it was collected from the secondary test of 184 people after the integrated crisis intervention service was performed for 6 months. The third collection of data was made from 124 people after 2 or 3 years later using the backward tracing method. As for the analysis, the researcher used the R Statistics computing to conduct the test equating, and the vertical scaling between measuring points. Then, the researcher conducted descriptive statistics analysis and univariate analysis of variance, and performed multi-level modeling analysis using Bayesian estimation. As a result of the study, it was found out that the integrated crisis intervention model which has been developed for the elderly suicide prevention has a statistically significant effect on the reduction of elderly suicide in terms of elderly depression and suicide ideation in the follow-up measurement after the implementation of crisis intervention rather than in the first preliminary scores. The integrated crisis intervention model for the prevention of elderly suicide was found to be effective to the extent of 0.56 for the reduction of depression and 0.39 for the reduction of suicidal ideation. However, it was found out in the backward tracing test conducted 2-3 years after the first crisis intervention that the improved values returned to its original state, thus showing that the effect of the intervention is not maintained for long. Multilevel analysis was conducted to find out the factors such as the service type(professional counseling, medication, peer counseling), characteristics of the client (sex, age), the characteristics of the counselor(age, career, major) and the interaction between the characteristics of the counselor and intervention which affect depression and suicidal ideation. It was found that only medication can significantly reduce suicidal ideation and that if the counselor's major is counseling, it significantly further reduces suicidal ideation by interacting with professional counseling. Furthermore, as the characteristics of the suicide prevention experts are found to regulate the intervention effect on elderly suicide prevention in applying integrated crisis intervention model, the primary consideration should be given to the counseling ability of these experts.
The purpose of this study was to find a countermeasure to the U.S. import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry. To this end, an analysis of trends during the pandemic was conducted using the KITA Border Rejection Database, which includes information on items and types of import refusals. The reason for rejection was also analyzed according to the FDA violation codes. The degree of countermeasure for import refusals was identified by measuring the unit rejection rate (URR). The results of the analysis showed that the major U.S. import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry had expanded from contact lenses to COVID-19 diagnostic kits and drugs after the pandemic broke out. The major reasons for import refusals were non-compliance with the Predicate Device and Drugs Act and non-approval by the FDA for products and facilities. On the other hand, the unit rejection rate (URR) of major items in the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry was measured higher than the industry average. The results therefore showed a low level of response to U.S. import refusals. The results of the analysis of reasons for import refusals by item according to FDA violation codes were as follows. First of all, the main violation for contact lenses and COVID-19 diagnostic kits corresponded to misbranding. This was often due to the fact that Korean companies did not provide the relevant notices and information required by the FDA. Many cases also failed to demonstrate a substantial equivalency compared to predicate devices already on the market. On the other hand, applications for new unapproved drugs were not accepted as they had yet to pass relevant regulations that would prove their safety and efficacy. In conclusion, import refusals for the Korean healthcare and life sciences industry were found to be closely related to technical barriers to trade (TBT).
