  • This study aims to improve the situation in which accurate job information for small and medium-sized enterprises is not known and it is difficult to identify jobs that meet the preference criteria from the perspective of the 'employer brand'. To this end, through a hierarchical regression analysis of 700 young job seekers, the factors affecting the intention to get a job centered on five value factors (Interest Value, Social Value, Economic Value, Development Value and Application Value) were identified by reflecting the brand categorization theory. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that young job seekers are more interested in work culture, environment, and utilization of their majors, which directly affect job seekers, rather than characteristics of companies such as talent development, products, services, and management, and are influenced by their intention to work. This suggests that the job policy for SMEs needs to be changed from the existing quantitative support-centered to a qualitative improvement that strengthens the use of platform-centered job information.

  • This study explores school to work transition of female youth. Particularly, the analyses focus on a transition to the first job from the graduation, and exits of irregular employees from their first occupational status. Data used for the analysis are “The 4th Survey on Women's Employment”, collected by KWDI in 2001. The results show that it takes 1.54 years on average for transition. Significant factors that influence the probability of transition to the first job include economic situation and satisfaction level of major at college education. The general high school educated are less likely to move into the labor market. Only a half percent of irregular employees at their first jobs exits to regular employees or non-economically active status, and education levels and age cohorts have clear impacts of those exits. Majors in college education and holding irregular jobs before the graduation significantly affect the probability of being regular employees, while industry influences the exits to be non-economically active status.

  • Background: Despite increasing the number of newly licensed nurses across Korea, shortages caused by geographical imbalances remains a significant concern. Therefore, understanding nursing students' attitudes to working and living, factors influencing where they first choose to work after graduation is useful in formulating appropriate interventions to retain nurses in regional areas. Methods: A total of 329 senior nursing students from areas outside Metropolitan Seoul completed self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using t-test, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: Of the respondents, 57.8% reported that they planned to work in the region in which their school was located. The three factors ranked as having the greatest influence on their decision to work in non-metropolitan regions were: the cost of living, housing costs, and the proximity to family. Enjoyable aspects of rural life contributed positively to students' intentions to work in non-metropolitan regions, whereas isolation and socialization problems negatively affected their intentions to work in such areas. Conclusions: Greater consideration should be given to improving working conditions and housing environments in non-metropolitan regions.

  • The Purpose of this study are to examine the middle-age and old worker's employment rates by age and gender at economic depression and recovery periods after the economic crisis, to identify the main 3causes of the change of the middle-age and old worker's employment rates between two periods, and to analyze whether the determinants affecting the middle-age and old worker's employment may be different by age and gender. For this study, The Annual Korean Labor Panel data(from 1st to 7th) are used. The results show that the employment rates are increased in the economic recovery period, and the difference between male and female employment rates decrease as ages go up. As we predicted, the determinants affecting the middle-age and old worker's employment are different by age and gender. For example, the existence of partner has positive effect on the male employment, but negative effect on female employment. The increases of the middle and old age worker's employment rates in the recovery period are mainly caused by the extension of the individualism(that is, the increases of the middle and upper class workers' employment), rather than the increases of the poor workers' employment rates due to the poverty(that is, the increases of the lower and poor class workers' employment). In the recovery period, comparing to the economic depression periods, the middle-age and old workers in the high class were likely to remain his(her) a good job while those in lower class are more difficult to get a job. This results show that the polarization of middle-age and old worker's employment has been appeared in the recovery periods(after 2001).

  • This study aims to investigate the effect of college students' major satisfaction on career decision-making self-efficacy and job confidence. The research method was used for analysis by surveying 335 two-year college students majoring in beauty in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The collected data were analyzed for frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation between career decision-making self-efficacy and job confidence using SPSS 26.0, and multiple regression analysis was conducted to confirm the effect between each variable. As a result of the study, first, a statistically significant positive (+) correlation between college students' major satisfaction was confirmed between career decision-making self-efficacy and job confidence. Second, as the effect of major satisfaction on self-efficacy, statistically significant effects were confirmed in self-evaluation, problem-solving, and goal selection. Fifth, it was confirmed that major satisfaction had a statistically significant effect on job confidence. Fourth, it was confirmed that career decision-making self-efficacy had a statistically significant effect on job confidence.

  • This paper analyzes the determinants of the employment status of the NURI-project-teams' college and university graduates in Busan area. The major results are as follows: First, education level, household income, grade point average and certificate turn out to be significant variables to decide employment or spell of unemployment. Second, parents' education level, household income, the size of project team, the firm size are shown to affect employment in Busan. In particular, the bigger the firm is, the probability of getting job in Busan is getting smaller. And there are two sides of provincial university graduates' moving into the Metropolitan area; the voluntary move and the involuntary move. Third, sex., education level, major, grade point average, the size of project team etc, are found to be significant determinants of wage level.

  • As Korean society grows rapidly older, a systematic analysis of the determinants of labor supply behavior among the elderly becomes a prerequisite for designing more effective senior employment policies and income security regime for the elderly. Literatures review shows that a majority of previous researches have been ignoring the problem of "endogenous predictor" especially when it comes to the estimation of the effects of the two key variables, education and non-labor income, on labor supply decisions among older people. They have failed to take into consideration the unobserved heterogeneities which might affect both labor supply decisions of the elderly and their levels of education and non-labor income, which means, according to some econometric literatures, that the estimated coefficients of the two predictors can be inconsistent. The paper tries to redress the endogeneity problem by employing a panel logit model with data from the 1st. to 4th. wave of the KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Survey of Ageing) to estimate the effects of key predictors on the probability of getting jobs among older people(ages of 60 or older). Both a random effects and a fixed effects model reaffirms that non-labor income has a negative effect on the chances of being employed. And a random effects model shows that the effect of education is also negative, as has frequently been reported by previous studies. That means the effects of education and non-labor income on elderly employment remain negative after the effect of unobserved heterogeneities is controled for and the problem of endogenous predictors is redressed through an appropriate panel data analysis. These findings mean, in turn, that when Korean baby-boomers, who had acquired an unprecedentedly higher level of education and were expected to enjoy ever-larger amount of non-labor income than their preceding generations, retires in near future, their incentives to work will become much weaker and the lack of labor-force and the burden of financing increased public pension expenditure will become more troublesome. The paper concludes with recommending some policy initiatives helpful to solve these expected problems.
