  • In Korea, youth participation in economic activities and unemployment appear at the same time, which is a more serious problem, so a study on the labor market movement can be viewed as a study to overcome youth unemployment. The purpose of this study is to examine how labor movement between the employed and the unemployed is progressing through the survey data of the youth panel among the employment panel and to identify the factors affecting the movement path and movement of the employed and the unemployed. In the case of the employed, they possessed professional qualifications, and in the case of unstable occupational status, they attempted to move to a stable position after being employed. In the case of the unemployed, the probability of failing to find a job was higher as they had no job search experience, the longer the job search period, and the less effort they made. The fact that the home environment directly or indirectly influences the movement of the labor market remains unchanged. On the other hand, the higher the educational level, the more stable, and the most stable the metropolitan area. Therefore, more urgently than ever, a plan to revitalize the local labor market through the organic relationship between the government, local governments, local industry, and local universities and balanced regional development should be sought.

  • This paper empirically analyzes the behavioral patterns of the labor flows surrounding self-employment. One of the findings is that, while a substantial portion of the labor flows into (and from) the self-employment sector is a movement from (and into) the non-employment, such flows are largely confined to a relatively small group of marginal workers. Still, the share of those marginal workers among the self-employed has declined steadily at least until the outburst of the financial crisis in 1997, evidencing that the job stability has been increased in this sector. On the other hand, the expected duration of self-employment has shown a downward trend up until 1990 but has increased since then. Such a trend reversal is also observed in the proportion of the labor force self-employed, indicating that the former is at least partly responsible for the latter.

  • This study surveyed the perception of university students about employment in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises(SME) in the Chungbuk area to prepare improvement measures. In particular, the data were collected in descriptive questions along with the existing survey methods, and the perception of SME and decent work was identified using text-mining. As a result of the analysis, there are positive perceptions of jobs at SME such as various work experiences and low job competition rates, while there are generally many negative perceptions in pay, work and welfare. However, as a result of co-occurrence network analysis of responses to decent jobs, 'Information' was derived as a keyword. Currently, college students' negative perception of SME is affected by the lack of sufficient information, which needs to be improved first. To solve this problem, it was proposed to establish and operate a platform that can provide information on employment of SME and select necessary personnel.

  • This study attempts to understand new immigrants' socio-economic adaptation by linking them with the restructuring economies in large US metropolitan areas. Selecting Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Atlanta, we examine the industrial distribution of employed Hispanic and Asian immigrant groups with respect to the industrial change experienced between 1980 and 1990, and residential concentration represented by higher location quotients. The findings are that new immigrant groups are employed in overall industrial sectors close to that of total population and their large residential concentrations are displayed near downtown as well as outlying areas. These suggest that new immigrant groups experience different socio-economic adaptation from those generalized in the previous European immigrants, concentrated in manufacturing sector and near downtown area. This study proposes that divergent economic restructuring across metropolitan areas and new immigrants' backgrounds should be considered for better understanding of immigrants' economic adaptation in the current economic restructuring and its spatial manifestation in the US contexts.
