  • Vehicle collision to bridges has been known as one of the causes of bridge collapse, and the emergency plans and disaster management has been recently emphasized to secure public safety. This study conducted risk assessment of vehicular collision to bridges for highway bridges in Korea. Risk assessment consists of three steps; preliminary risk analysis(PRA), simplified risk analysis(SRA) and detailed risk analysis(DRA). The PRA firstly screens out the possibility of occurrence of the event. The SRA identifies influencial factors to risk of the event and evaluates risk scores to determine risk levels and necessity of DRA that investigates the risk of the bridge in detail. This study focuses on the methodology of the risk assessment, especially the SRA, and the stratification methods which evaluate risk levels of vehicular collision. The analysis results were compared to the reported vehicular collision accidents. The proposed method can be utilized in similar disaster management area.

  • Up to now a lot of the study on ship collision avoidance systems have proceeded actively. However the rate of ship collision accidents hasn't decreased yet. If there is collision risk in close quarters situation in spite of maneuvering ship for collision avoidance according to the system, only use of TCP A and DCP A as input factor for collision risk decision is not useful to avoiding collision action. For the recent 5 years by the analysis of first observation distance about approaching ship in domestic collision accidents, nearly $45\%$ of accidents is close first observation less than 2 miles. Therefore it is essential part for safety navigations to study for collision avoidance action in close encounter. In this paper, as a fundamental study of supporting collision avoidance maneuvering for navigators, we proposed ship collision avoidance support model in close quarters situation through analysis qf collision accidents to effectively get rid of the causes.

  • Since impulse-radio-based ultra wideband (IR-UWB) do not use carrier frequency but use very short pulse to transmit data it sends data not continuously but discretely and this feature gives the potential to reduce collision in multi-user environment. In this paper, we analyse characteristic of IR-UWB and propose a new collision paradigm, Collision Distribution which changes collision level from packet to pulse. In Collision Distribution mechanical each node sends data with its own pulse interval in random time, distributed manner. It prevents packet drop due to packet collision. We show that Collision Distribution can reduce packet error and can provide real time packet transmission with analysis.

  • Offshore wind turbines has to be proved against accidental events such as ship collision. In this study, ship collision fragility analysis of offshore wind turbine is done. Dynamic collision analysis is accomplished by considering soil foundation interaction and fluid structure interaction. Uncertainties due to ship weight and speed, angle are also considered. By analyzing dynamic response of offshore wind turbine, fragility curves are obtained for different damage levels. They can be used for restricting boat speed around the wind turbine and allowable size of the boat for inspection and for other purposes. Results of the fragility, it was confirmed fragility of collision speed of bulk ship of 30,000DWT and 850ton barge ship.

  • This study examined the final stop position and posture of both vehicles, the damaged part of the vehicle, the road surface, the specifications of the vehicle, and the angle of impact, centering on the case of a collision in which no surface trace was found. As a result of the simulation, the impact velocity of an SM5 and Lexus was 131 km/h and 74 km/h, respectively, and the impact angle of the SM5 and Lexus was 0.91° and -161.07°, respectively. The cause of the accident was that the SM5 passed through the intersection exceeding the maximum speed limit of 61 km/h and entered the Lexus' left turn lane. Lexus collided during the evacuation to avoid the collision. The collision trajectory error rate of the simulation was approximately 1.4%. Of the subjective experience of accident investigators, the collision dynamics and vehicle engineering aspects and simulations were actively utilized to provide close-to-fact cause identification.

  • In this paper, collision analysis is carried out between two FRP fishing boats. A computer simulation with finite element method is used to accomplish this objective. At first, a detailed geometric model of the boat is constructed using 3-D CAD program. The formation of a finite element from a geometric data of the boats is carried out using HYPERMESH that is the commercial software for mesh generation and post processing. Twelve collision configurations are established by combining two kinds of contact angle($90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$) and three different speed(5, 10, 15knot) for small and large boats. Collision analysis is accomplished using DYNA3D. Stress distribution and deformation shape are investigated for each collision condition. In general, $90^{\circ}$ collision angle generate larger stress than $135^{\circ}$ case and the collision for two moving boats showed larger maximum stress than the case that one is moving and the other is stationary. When analysis is carried out until 150ms contact parts of two boats are broken for 10 and 15knot collision speed, in which maximum stress is larger than ultimate strength of the material.

  • This study investigates frontal crashes, analyzes the driver's action related to the change of the collision direction and determines the severity of (bodily injury). This study was conducted from August, 2013, to January, 2014, and the data for the car damage and human body damage were collected by emergency medical teams. In terms of data collection, we collected the accident vehicle, crash direction, body damage, etc., based on the Korea In-depth Accident Study (KIDAS) and Injury Severity Score (ISS). We used Minitab 17 and SPSS 22.0 to do the frequency analysis and ANOVA. In the analysis results, the prevalence of frontal collisions was 55.8% and mostly occurred in the 12 o'clock direction. In the analysis of the frontal crash direction according to age, the average ages for the 11, 12 and 1 o'clock directions were $46.46{\pm}13.47$, $44.43{\pm}13.40$ and $52.46{\pm}12.04$, respectively, so the older age drivers had a high probability of the accident occurring in the 1 o'clock direction. In the analysis of men's frontal collision direction according to age, the average ages in the 11, 12 and 1 o'clock directions were $47.10{\pm}13.88$, $45.24{\pm}13.78$ and $55.73{\pm}13.38$, respectively, so older aged men had a high probability of having collisions in the 1 o'clock direction. However, the statistical analysis of the frontal crash direction according to age in women didn't show any meaningful trend. When comparing the ISS according to age of the men and women in the collision direction, the men were less likely to have a 12 o'clock collision when $ISS{\geq}9$ and more likely to have a 1 o'clock collision when ISS<9. As a result, frontal crashes are more likely to occur in the 12 o'clock direction and the ISS decreases because the likelihood of frontal crashes in the 1 o'clock direction increases with increasing age. Therefore, when men recognize that they are heading for a 12 o'clock direction collision, they try to steer to the left to reduce the body damage.
